IEC 60317-89:2023 specifies the requirements of enamelled round aluminium winding wire of class 200 with a sole coating based on polyesterimide resin, which can be modified providing it retains the chemical identity of the original resin and meets all specified wire requirements. NOTE A modified resin is a resin that has undergone a chemical change, or contains one or more additives to enhance certain performance or application characteristics. The range of nominal conductor diameters covered by this standard is as follows: grade 1: 0,250 mm up to and including 1,600 mm; grade 2: 0,250 mm up to and including 5,000 mm. The nominal conductor diameters are specified in Clause 4 of IEC 60317-0-3:2008 and IEC 60317-0-3:2008/AMD1:2013. This International Standard is to be used in conjunction with IEC 60317-0-3:2008, its Amendment 1 (2013) and its Amendment 2 (2019).

IEC 60317-93: 2023 specifies the requirements of enamelled rectangular copper winding wire of class 220 with a dual coating. The underlying coating is based on polyester or polyesterimide resin, which be modified providing it retains the chemical identity of the original resin and meets all specified wire requirements. The superimposed coating is based on polyamide-imide resin. NOTE A modified resin is a resin that has undergone a chemical change, or contains one or more additives to enhance certain performance or application characteristics. The range of nominal conductor dimensions covered by this standard is: width: min. 2,0 mm max. 25,0 mm; thickness: min. 0,80 mm max. 10,0 mm. Wires of grade 1 and grade 2 are included in this specification and apply to the complete range of conductors. The specified combinations of width and thickness as well as the specified width/thickness ratio are given in IEC 60317-0-2. This International Standard is to be used in conjunction with IEC 60317-0-2:2020.

NOTE A modified resin is a resin that has undergone a chemical change or contains one or more additives to enhance certain performance or application characteristics. The range of nominal conductor diameters covered by this document is as follows:
Grade 1: 0,018 mm up to and including 3,150 mm;
Grade 2: 0,020 mm up to and including 5,000 mm;

IEC 60851-1:2021 specifies the general notes on methods of test for winding wires. It also gives the definitions for terms used in IEC 60851 (all parts). A survey of the contents of IEC 60851-2 to IEC 60851-6 is given in Annex A. This third edition cancels and replaces the second edition published in 1996, and its amendment 1:2003 and amendment 2:2009. This edition constitutes a technical revision. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:
revision to Clause 2 to update the list of normative references;
revision to 3.2 atmospheric conditions for testing;
addition to 3.2 with remarks concerning frequency and management of tests;
revision to Annex A to update the contents list of IEC 60851 series of tests.

IEC 60172:2020 is available as IEC 60172:2020 RLV which contains the International Standard and its Redline version, showing all changes of the technical content compared to the previous edition.IEC 60172:2020 specifies, in accordance with the provisions of IEC 60216-1, a method for evaluating the temperature index of enamelled wire, varnished or unvarnished with an impregnating agent, and of tape wrapped round and rectangular wire, in air at atmospheric pressure by periodically monitoring changes in response to AC proof voltage tests. This procedure does not apply to fibre-insulated wire or wire covered with tapes containing inorganic fibres. NOTE The data obtained according to this test procedure provide the designer and development engineer with information for the selection of winding wire for further evaluation of insulation systems and equipment tests. This fifth edition cancels and replaces the fourth edition published in 2015. This edition constitutes a technical revision. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition: - revision of 3.1, definition of thermal index; - revision of 3.3, time to failure; - revisions to 5.1.1 for clarity and to reduce the range wire size range to which the test applies; - revisions to 5.1.2 for tape wrapped round and enamelled or tape wrapped rectangular wire for clarity; - revision to Clause 9 to add the correlation coefficient, r to the report.

IEC 60317-60-1: 2020 specifies the requirements of polyester glass-fibre wound fused, unvarnished, bare or grade 1 or grade 2 enamelled rectangular copper winding wires, temperature index 155. NOTE For this type of wire, the heat shock test is inappropriate and therefore a heat shock temperature cannot be established. Consequently, a class based on the requirements for temperature index and heat shock temperature cannot be specified. The range of nominal conductor dimensions covered by this document is: width: min. 2,0 mm max. 16,0 mm; thickness: min. 0,80 mm max. 5,60 mm.
