Fixed capacitors for use in electronic equipment - Part 11: Sectional specification - Fixed polyethylene-terephthalate film dielectric metal foil d.c. capacitors

It applies to fixed direct current capacitors, for rated voltages not exceeding 6 300 V, using as dielectric a polyethylene-terephthalate film and electrodes of thin metal foils. For capacitors with rated voltages exceeding 1 000 V, additional tests and requirements may be specified in the detail specification. It constitutes a minor revision related to tables, figures and references.

La CEI 60384-11:2008 s'applique aux condensateurs fixes pour courant continu, pour des tensions ne dépassant pas 6 300 V, utilisant comme diélectrique un film de polytéréphtalate d'éthylène et des électrodes de feuilles métalliques minces. Pour des condensateurs de tensions assignées ne dépassant pas 1 000 V, d'autres essais et exigences peuvent être spécifiées dans la spécification particulière. Les condensateurs couverts par la présente Norme sont destinés à être utilisés dans des équipements électroniques. La présente Norme a pour objet de prescrire les valeurs assignées et caractéristiques préférentielles, de sélectionner, en se référant à la Norme CEI 60384-1, les procédures d'assurance qualité appropriées, les essais et les méthodes de mesure et de donner les exigences de performances générales pour ce type de condensateur. Les sévérités et les exigences d'essai prescrites dans les spécifications particulières se rapportant à cette spécification intermédiaire doivent présenter des niveaux de performances supérieurs ou égaux, parce que les niveaux de performance inférieurs ne sont pas autorisés. Cette troisième édition annule et remplace la deuxième édition publiée en 1988. Elle constitue une révision mineure des tableaux, valeurs et références.

The text of document 40/1839/CDV, future edition 3 of IEC 60384-11, prepared by IEC TC 40, Capacitors
and resistors for electronic equipment, was submitted to the IEC-CENELEC parallel Unique Acceptance
Procedure and was approved by CENELEC as EN 60384-11 on 2008-03-01.
The following dates were fixed:
– latest date by which the EN has to be implemented
at national level by publication of an identical
national standard or by endorsement (dop) 2008-12-01
– latest date by which the national standards conflicting
with the EN have to be withdrawn (dow) 2011-03-01
Annex ZA has been added by CENELEC.

Test severities and requirements specified in detail specifications referring to this sectional specification are of an equal or higher performance level. Lower performance levels are not permitted. Capacitors for electromagnetic interference suppression are not included, but are covered by IEC 60384‑14. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:
revision of all parts of the document based on the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 2:2021, and harmonization with other similar kinds of documents;
the document structure has been organized to follow new sectional specification structure decided in TC 40;
revised tables and Clause 5 to prevent duplications and contradictions;
in Clause 5.2 (Mounting), 5.2.1, 5.2.2 and 5.2.3 have been added;
in Clause 5.5 (Shear test), 5.5.1 and 5.5.2 have been added;
in Clause 5.14 (Component solvent resistance), 5.14.1 and 5.14.2 have been added. In Table 8 and Table A.2, test 5.14 has been moved before 5.7.5 Final inspections in Group 1A and in Subgroup C1;
in Clause 5.15 (Solvent resistance of marking), 5.15.1 and 5.15.2 have been added;
tangent of loss angle measurement has been added to resistance to soldering heat test;
lot-by-lot and periodical inspection tables including requirements have been moved to Annex A;
revised Inspection Level (IL) of A1 subgroup.

The maximum reactive power applicable is 10 000 var and the maximum peak voltage is 3 000 V. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition: a) all parts of the document have been revised based on the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 2:2016 (seventh edition) and harmonization between other similar kinds of documents; b) tables and Clause 4 have been revised so as to prevent duplications and contradictions; c) new damp heat steady-state robustness classes with test conditions have been added in text, in Clause 4 and in Annex A.
