This amendment has been prepared by subcommittee 23B: Plugs, socket-outlets and
switches, of IEC technical committee 23: Electrical accessories.
The text of this amendment is based on the following documents:
CDV Report on voting
23B/1166/CDV 23B/1186A/RVC
Full information on the voting for the approval of this amendment can be found in the report
on voting indicated in the above table.
The committee has decided that the contents of this amendment and the base publication will
remain unchanged until the stability date indicated on the IEC website under
"http://webstore.iec.ch" in the data related to the specific publication. At this date, the
publication will be
• reconfirmed,
• withdrawn,
• replaced by a revised edition, or
• amended.

1 Scope
Replace the last but one paragraph, added by Amendment 1, by:
Cable reels complying with this standard should be suitable for use at ambient temperatures
not normally exceeding +40 °C, but their average over a period of 24 h does not exceed
+35 °C, with a lower limit of the ambient air temperature of –5 °C.
3 Definitions
3.24 Add the following note and source to the existing definition added by Amendment 1:
NOTE The term “plug” covers plugs and fused plugs. The term “socket-outlet” covers also socket-outlet with
incorporated components such as switches and fuses etc.

6 Classification
6.5 Replace the existing text, added by Amendment 1, by the following new text:
The degree of protection against harmful effects due to the ingress of water as described in
IEC 60529.

7.1 Delete the Note.
7.2 Replace the last two dashed items of the list by:
Degree of protection, when relevant .IPXX
Add in Note 3 “first” before the word “letter”.
11 Flexible cables and their connection
11.1 Replace the existing second paragraph, added by Amendment 1, by the following new
paragraph:
Detachable flexible cable shall be a cord extension set according IEC 60884-2-7 and comply
with the relevant national standard taking into account other requirements of Clause 11 of this
standard.
