Foreword
ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies (ISO
member bodies). The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out through ISO technical
committees. Each member body interested in a subject for which a technical committee has been established has
the right to be represented on that committee. International organizations, governmental and non-governmental, in
liaison with ISO, also take part in the work. ISO collaborates closely with the International Electrotechnical
Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrotechnical standardization.
International Standards are drafted in accordance with the rules given in the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 3.
Draft International Standards adopted by the technical committees are circulated to the member bodies for voting.
Publication as an International Standard requires approval by at least 75 % of the member bodies casting a vote.
International Standard ISO 13230 was prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 172, Optics and optical
instruments, Subcommittee SC 7, Ophthalmic optics and instruments.

This International Standard was developed to encourage the use of bar code symbology throughout the various
levels of production and distribution in the ophthalmic industry.

1 Scope
This International Standard provides unified specifications for bar code symbology, for use in the communication of
orders between manufacturers for stock and semi-finished spectacle lenses, spectacle frames, contact lenses and
contact lens care products.

EAN-13: International Article Number
JAN-13: Japanese Article Number
OPC: Optical Product Code
UPC: Universal Product Code
NOTE The UPC code is compatible with the EAN-13 code.

La présente Norme internationale fournit des spécifications unifiées relatives au symbolisme des codes à barres,
destinées à être utilisées dans le cadre de la communication des commandes entre fabricants de verres de lunettes
de stock et semi-finis, montures de lunettes, lentilles de contact et produits d'entretien pour lentilles de contact.
