BRIEF HISTORY
The IS0 Recommendation R 888, Nominal lengths for bolts, screws and studs - Thread
lengths for general purpose bolts, was drawn up by Technical Committee ISO/TC 2, Bolts, nuts and
accessories, the Secretariat of which is held by the Deutscher Normenausschuss (DNA).
Work on this question by the Technical Committee began in 1959 and led, in 1965, to the
adoption of a Draft IS0 Recommendation for nominal lengths up to and including 200 mm.
This first Draft IS0 Recommendation (No. 950) was circulated in May 1966 to all the
Member Bodies for enquiry and was approved by a majority of IS0 Member Bodies. However, at a
meeting held in October 1966, the Technical Committee recommended the establishment of a second
Draft IS0 Recommendation, in which nominal lengths above 200 mm up to and including 300 mm
should be added.
In August 1967, this second Draft IS0 Recommendation was circulated to all the IS0 Member
Bodies for enquiry. It was approved, subject to a few modifications of an editorial nature, by the
following Member Bodies :

HISTORIQUE
La Recommandation ISO/R 888, Longueurs de tige nominales des vis, boulons et goujons -
Longueurs filetées des boulons d’application générale, a été élaborée par le Comité Technique
ISOlTC 2, Boulons, écrous et accessoires, dont le Secrétariat est assuré par le Deutscher Normen-
ausschuss (DNA).
Les travaux relatifs à cette question furent entrepris par le Comité Technique en 1959 et
aboutirent, en 1965, à l’adoption d’un Projet de Recommandation IS0 pour les longueurs nominales

jusquà 200 mm inclus.
Ce premier Projet de Recommandation IS0 (NO 950) fut soumis, en mai 1966, à l’enquête de
tous les Comités Membres de llIS0 qui l’approuvèrent à la majorité. Cependant, lors d’une réunion
tenue en octobre 1966, le Comité Technique recommanda d’élaborer un deuxième Projet de
Recommandation IS0 comprenant les longueurs nominales supérieures à 200 mm et jusqu’à
300 mm inclus.
En août 1967, ce deuxième Projet de Recommandation IS0 fut soumis à l’enquête de tous
les Comités Membres de I’ISO. I1 fut approuvé, sous réserve de quelques modifications d’ordre
rédactionnel, par les Comités Membres suivants :
