BRIEF HISTORY
The IS0 Recommendation R 98, Diamefers of Drafting Rollers for Cotton,
Wool, Spun Silk and Staple Fibre, was drawn up by Technical Committee
ISO/TC 72, Textile Machinery and Accessories, the Secretariat of which is held
by the Association Suisse de Normalisation (SNV).
At its very first meeting, held in Zurich, in July 1950, the Technical
Committee decided to include in its programme of work the item of diameters of
drafting rollers for cotton, wool, spun silk and staple fibre.
At its second meeting, held in Scheveningen, in September 1951, the
Technical Committee assigned the study of this question to a Working Group,
composed of Belgium, France, Netherlands, United Kingdom, Switzerland and,
as from 1952, Germany. This Working Group met several times to prepare a
draft proposal.
At the third plenary meeting of the Technical Committee, held in Brussels,
in July 1955, this draft proposal was unanimously adopted by the dele-
gates present as a Draft IS0 Recommendation.

HISTORIQUE
La Recommandation ISO/R 98, Diambfres des cylindres d’étirage pour
coton, laine, schappe et fibranne, a été élaborée par le Comité Technique ISO/TC 72,
Matériel pour l’industrie textile, dont le Secrétariat est assuré par l’Association
Suisse de Normalisation (SNV).
Dès sa première réunion, tenue A Zurich, en juillet 1950, le Comité Tech-
nique décida d’inclure dans son programme de travail la question des diamètres
des cylindres d’étirage pour coton, laine, schappe et fibranne.
Au cours de sa deuxième réunion, tenue A Scheveningen, en septembre
1951, le Comité Technique confia l’étude de cette question A un Groupe de
Travail, composé de la Belgique, de la France, des Pays-Bas, du Royaume-Uni,
de la Suisse et, dès 1952, de l’Allemagne. Ce Groupe de Travail se réunit A plu-
sieurs reprises pour élaborer un avant-projet.
Au cours de la troisième réunion plénière du Comité Technique, tenue
à Bruxelles, en juillet 1955, cet avant-projet fut adopté, A l’unanimité des
délégations présentes, comme Projet de Recommandation ISO.
