BRIEF HISTORY
The IS0 Recommendation R 201 5, Numbering of weeks, was drawn up by the Co-ordinating committee on
the standardization ofthe writing of dates (DATCO), the Secretariat of which is held by the IS0 Central Secretariat
in Geneva.
Work on this question led to the adoption of Draft IS0 Recommendation No. 2015,which was circulated to
all the IS0 Member Bodies for enquiry in January 1970, It was approved, subject to a few modifications of an
editorial nature, by the following Member Bodies :

NUMBERING OF WEEKS
INTRODUCTION
The calendar week is a convenient time period for certain commercial and planning purposes. Delivery dates in
purchasing contracts, transport plans and similar documents are frequently designated by referring to a certain
week number. Since methods of numbering the week of the year vary from country to country, it is very important
to use a uniform numbering of weeks for international trade and the industrial planning of international companies.
Uniform numbering of weeks necessitates a unique designation of the day on which a week begins. For commercial,
i.e. accounting, planning and similar purposes for which a week number might be used, Monday has been found the
most appropriate as the first day of the week.

HISTORIQUE
La Recommandation ISO/R 2015, Numérotage des semaines, a été élaborée par le Comité de coordination
pour la normalisation de l'écriture des dates (DATCO), dont le Secrétariat est assuré par le Secrétariat Central de
I'ISO Genève.
Les travaux relatifs à cette question aboutirent à i'adoption du Projet de Recommandation IS0 No 2015 qui
fut soumis, en janvier 1970, à l'enquête de tous les Comités Membres de l'IS0. I1 fut approuvé, sous réserve de
quelques modifications d'ordre rédactionnel, par les Comités Membres suivants :

NUMÉROTAGE DES SEMAINES
INTRODUCTION
La semaine est une unité de temps commode pour certaines opérations commerciales ou certains projets. Dans les
marchés de fourniture où sont spécifiées les dates de livraison et dans les plans de transport et les documents compa-
t
rables, les semaines sont souvent désignées par un numéro d‘ordre. Etant donné que les règles de numérotage des
semaines varient d’un pays à l’autre, il est très important d’appliquer des règles uniformes dans le commerce inter-
national et les plans de travail des entreprises internationales.
Un numérotage uniforme des semaines exige l’unicité du choix du jour considéré comme le premier de la semaine.
Pour les besoins commerciaux et comptables, les plans et projets comparables dans lesquels des numéros de semaine
sont susceptibles d’être employés, le choix du lundi comme premier jour de la semaine a été considéré comme le plus
commode.
