BRIEF HISTORY
The IS0 Recommendation R 1576, Tea - Determination of water-soluble ash and water-insoluble ash, was
drawn up by Technical Committee ISO/TC 34, Agricultural food products, the Secretariat of which is held by the
Magyar Szabvanyügyi Hivatal (MSZH).
Work on this question led to the adoption of Draft IS0 Recommendation No. 1576, which was circulated
to all the IS0 Member Bodies for enquiry in July 1968. It was approved, subject to a few modifications of an editorial
nature, by the following Member Bodies :

1. SCOPE
This [SO Recommendation describes a method for the determination of the water-soluble ash and the water-insoluble
ash of tea.
2. DEFINITIONS
2.1 By water-soluble ash is meant the part of the total ash dissolved by water under the conditions specified.
2.2 By water-insoluble ash is meant the part of the total ash remaining after treatment with water under the
conditions specified.
3. PRINCIPLE
Extraction of the total ash with hot water, filtration through ashless filter paper, ignition and weighing of the residue
to determine the insoluble ash; calculation of the soluble ash by difference.
4. APPARATUS
Usual laboratory apparatus not otherwise specified, and the following items
4.1 Dish, capacity 50 to 100 ml, used for the determination of total ash.
4.2 Furnace, regulated at 525 f 25 OC.
4.3 Steam bath.
4.4 Filter paper, ashless.
4.5 Desiccator, containing an effective desiccant.
4.6 Analytical balance.
5. PROCEDURE
5.1 Test portion
Use the total ash obtained from the determination described in IS0 Recommendation R 1575, Tea ~ Deter-
mination of total ash.

La Recommandation ISO/R 1576, Thé - Détermination des cendres solubles et des cendres insolubles dans
l’eau, a été élaborée par le Comité Technique ISOITC 34, Produits agricoles alimentaires, dont le Secrétariat est
assuré par le Magyar Szabvanyügyi Hivatal (MSZH).
Les travaux relatifs à cette question aboutirent à l’adoption du Projet de Recommandation IS0 No 1576
qui fut soumis,en juillet 1968,à l’enquête de tous les Comités Membres de I’ISO. 11 fut approuvé, sous réserve de
quelques modifications d’ordre rédactionnel, par les Comités Membres suivants :

L OBJET
La présente Recommandation IS0 décrit une méthode de détermination, dans le thé, des cendres solubles et des
cendres insolubles dans l’eau.
2. DÉFINITION
2.1 On entend, par cendres solubles dans l’eau, la fraction des cendres totales dissoutes par l’eau chaude, dans les
conditions décrites.
On entend, par cendres insolubles dans l’eau, la fraction de cendres totales restant après traitement par l’eau

3. PRINCIPE
Epuisement des cendres totales par l’eau chaude, filtration sur papier filtre sans cendres, incinération et pesée du
résidu afin de déterminer les cendres insolubles; calcul des cendres solubles par différence.
4. APPAREILLAGE
Matériel courant de laboratoire, et notamment
Capsule d’une contenance de 50 à 100 ml, utilisée pour la détermination des cendres totales.

Four, réglé à 525 f 25 OC.

4.3 Bain de vapeur.
4.4 Papier filtre sans cendres.
4.5 Dessiccateur garni d’un déshydratant efficace.
4.6 Balance analytique.
5. MODE OPÉRATOIRE
5.1 Rise d’essai
Utiliser les cendres totales obtenues lors de la détermination décrite dans la Recommandation ISO/R 1575,
Thé - Détermination des cendres totales.
5.2 Détermination
5.2.1 Ajouter aux cendres totales, dans la capsule (4.1), 20 ml d’eau distillée (ou d’eau de pureté au moins équi-
