BRIEF HISTORY
The IS0 Recommendation R 265, Pipes and Fittings of Plastics Materials-Socket
Fittings with Spigot Ends for Domestic and Industrial Waste Pipes- Basic Dimensions:
Metric Series, was drawn up by the Technical Committee ISO/TC 5, Pipes and Fittings,
the Secretariat of which is held by the Association Suisse de Normalisation (SNV).
Work on this question by the Technical Committee began in 1957 and led, in 1959, to
the adoption of a Draft IS0 Recommendation.
In October 1960, this Draft IS0 Recommendation (No. 408) was circulated to all the
IS0 Member Bodies for enquiry. It was approved, subject to a few modifications of an
editorial nature, by the following Member Bodies :

France Israel Switzerland
Germany Italy U.S.S.R.
Greece Poland Yugoslavia
Four Member Bodies Opposed the approval of the Draft:
Denmark, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden
The Draft IS0 Recommendation was then submitted by correspondence to the IS0
Council, which decided, in July 1962, to accept it as an IS0 RECOMMENDATION.

BASIC DIMENSIONS: METRIC SERIES
1. SCOPE
This IS0 Recommendation applies to plastics socket fittings with spigot ends for domestic and
industrial waste pipes, regardless of their method of manufacture (except fittings fabricated from
tubes) and composition. Its object is to specify the series of diameters to be used and the dimen-
sions which are common to all types of fittings.*

It contains 46 types and sizes of fittings and should be used immediately as a guide to manu-
facturers and users and as a basis for specific standards. It may later be extended to other types
and sizes of fittings, when the development of plastics materials in the field of pipe systems makes
this necessary.
Extension to other types should be made by observing the principles laid down in this IS0
Recommendation.
2. DIAMETERS OF FITTINGS (SIZES)
The diameters of jointing should be the following:
32 - 50 - 75 - 110 - 160 mm.**
Fittings are designated by the diameters of their sockets. In the case of nipples, these are designated
by the diameters of the jointing surfaces, giving the male end first.

For elbows and tees (branches), the angles should be 45", 67%" or 87%"

HISTORIQUE
La Recommandation ISO/R 265, Canalisations en matières plastiques - Raccords à
emboîtement et à bout uni pour tuyaux d’évacuations domestiques et industrielles - Dimen-
sions de base: Série métrique, a été élaborée par le Comité Technique ISO/TC 5, Tuyau-
teries et raccords, dont le Secrétariat est assuré par l’Association Suisse de Normalisation
(SNV).
Les travaux relatifs à cette question furent entrepris par le Comité Technique en 1957
et aboutirent en 1959 à l’adoption d’un Projet de Recommandation ISO.
En octobre 1960, ce Projet de Recommandation IS0 (No 408) fut soumis à l’enquête
de tous les Comités Membres de 1’ISO. II fut approuvé, sous réserve de quelques modifica-
tions d’ordre rédactionnel, par les Comités Membres suivants :

en juillet 1962, de l’accepter comme RECOMMANDATION ISO.

1. OBJET
La présente Recommandation IS0 s’applique aux raccords en matières plastiques à emboîtement
et à bout uni pour tuyaux d’évacuations domestiques et industrielles, quels qu’en soient le mode
de fabrication (à l’exception des raccords façonnés à partir de tubes) et la composition. Elle a
pour objet de fixer la série de diamètres à utiliser et les dimensions qui sont communes à tous les
types de raccords *.
Elle contient 46 types et dimensions de raccords et doit servir, dès maintenant, de guide aux
fabricants et aux usagers et de buse aux normes particulières. Elle pourra être étendue par la
suite à d’autres types et à d’autres dimensions de raccords, lorsque le développement des matières
plastiques, dans le domaine des tuyauteries, le rendra nécessaire.
L’extension à d’autres types devra être faite en respectant les principes établis par la présente
Recommandation ISO.
2. DIAMÈTRES DES RACCORDS (DJ?NOMINATIONS USUELLES)
Les diamètres de raccordement sont les suivants:
32 - 50 - 75 - 110 - 160 mm **.
Les raccords sont désignés par les diamètres de leurs emboîtures. Dans le cas des mamelons,
la dénomination est fqite en donnant les diamètres de raccordement en commençant par l’extré-
mité mâle.
