SIST EN 1301-1:2008 is the Slovenian standard identical to EN 1301-1:2008, issued through SIST from CEN. It sets the inspection and delivery conditions for aluminium and aluminium alloy drawn wire used in general engineering applications, so buyers, manufacturers and quality staff know what to order, test and document.
What does SIST EN 1301-1:2008 specify?
SIST EN 1301-1:2008 specifies the technical conditions for inspection and delivery of aluminium and aluminium alloy drawn wire for general engineering applications. It applies to drawn wire, but not to aeronautical applications, electrical or welding purposes, or drawing stock.
The document is organized into clauses on scope, normative references, terms and definitions, ordering information, requirements, test procedure, delivery and inspection documents, marking, packaging and complaints of non-conformity. In practice, that means it covers the whole supply chain from the purchase order to final acceptance.
What are the key requirements of SIST EN 1301-1:2008?
Ordering and product definition
- Clause 4 requires the order to identify the product form, alloy designation, temper, dimensions, tolerances, quantity and any required certificates. This matters because the supplier is only bound to what is stated on the order.
- The order can also set special requirements for testing, marking, surface quality and packaging. That gives the purchaser a way to tighten control where the application needs it.
Material, properties and condition
- Clause 5.3 requires the chemical composition to conform to EN 573-3, unless tighter limits are agreed on the order. For a buyer, this is the key control on alloy identity and impurity limits.
- Clause 5.4 requires mechanical properties to conform to EN 1301-2 or to agreed properties stated on the order. This links the delivery standard to the strength and ductility level needed in use.
- Clause 5.6 requires dimensional tolerances to conform to EN 1301-3. That is what keeps the wire usable in downstream forming, assembly or machining.
- Clause 5.8 ties the temper of delivery to EN 515 and identifies the usual tempers as O, H and T. In practice, the temper tells the purchaser how hard the wire is and how it will behave in processing.
Inspection, testing and acceptance
- Clause 5.2 makes the manufacturer responsible for inspection and testing before shipment, and allows purchaser inspection at the works if it is notified in the order. This sets the point where acceptance checks happen.
- Clause 6.1 defines how samples and test pieces are taken and identified, including chemical-analysis samples taken at casting and tensile-test pieces traced to the inspection lot. That traceability matters when a result must be linked back to a specific coil or batch.
- Clause 6.2 specifies the test methods: tensile testing according to EN 10002-1, dimensional checks at ambient temperature, and surface inspection before delivery without magnification unless otherwise specified. If there is a dispute on chemical composition, referee analysis uses the methods cited in the document.
- Clause 6.3 sets the retest rules when a specimen fails. This protects both sides by showing when a result is a test error and when a lot must be rejected or retreated.
Delivery documents and handling of disputes
- Clause 7 requires a certificate of mass and analysis with each delivery, and an inspection certificate 3.1 according to EN 10204 unless the order says otherwise. These documents are the main evidence of conformity.
- Clauses 8 to 10 cover marking, packaging and complaints of non-conformity, including arbitration by mutual agreement if conformity is disputed. That gives a formal path for resolving disagreements before rejection.
What terms does SIST EN 1301-1:2008 define?
- Temper of delivery - the supplied condition of the wire, such as O, H or T, which affects processing and final properties.
- Inspection certificate 3.1 - the EN 10204 document that reports at least chemical analysis and mechanical properties for the delivered product.
- Certificate of mass and analysis - the delivery document listing supplier, purchaser, product description, cast numbers, analysis and total net mass.
- Inspection lot - the group from which test pieces are taken and against which conformity is judged.
- Referee analysis - the dispute-analysis method used when chemical composition is contested.
- Drawn wire - wire produced by drawing and covered here only for general engineering use.
Who uses SIST EN 1301-1:2008?
Manufacturers of aluminium wire use SIST EN 1301-1:2008 to set production, testing and documentation for delivery. Purchasers, buyers and quality managers use it to specify the alloy, temper, dimensions, tolerances and certificates they need.
Testing laboratories and inspection staff use it for sampling, tensile testing, dimensional checks and chemical-analysis traceability. It is relevant in aluminium products supply chains where wire is ordered for general engineering applications.
What changed in SIST EN 1301-1:2008 from the previous edition?
SIST EN 1301-1:2008 supersedes EN 1301-1:1997. The foreword states that, besides editorial updates and refreshed normative references, the following changes were made:
- EN 12258-1:1998 and EN 14361 were added to Clause 2.
- Clause 3 was replaced by a reference to EN 12258-1:1998.
- Clause 6.1.2 and 6.1.3 were modified.
- Clause 7 was completely revised.
