Gas detectors - Electrical apparatus for the detection of carbon monoxide in domestic premises - Part 1: Test methods and performance requirements

This European Standard specifies general requirements for the construction, testing and performance of electrically operated carbon monoxide gas detection apparatus, designed for continuous operation in domestic premises. The apparatus may be mains-powered or battery-powered. Such apparatus is intended to warn of an accumulation of CO, enabling the occupant to react before being exposed to significant risk.
Additional requirements for apparatus to be used in recreational vehicles and similar premises are specified in EN 50291-2.
NOTE 1   For caravan holiday homes EN 50291-1 applies.
This European Standard specifies two types of apparatus, these are:
-   type A - to provide a visual and audible alarm and an executive action in the form of a transmittable output signal that can be used to actuate directly or indirectly a ventilation or other ancillary device;
-   type B - to provide a visual and audible alarm only.
NOTE 2   Both type A and type B apparatus can be interconnected.
This European Standard excludes apparatus for:
-   the detection of combustible gases, other than carbon monoxide itself (see EN 50194-1);
-   the detection of CO in industrial installations (see EN 45544-1, EN 45544-2 and EN 45544-3) or commercial premises;
-   CO measurement for smoke and fire detection;
-   CO measurement in carparks and tunnels.

La présente Norme européenne spécifie les exigences générales pour la construction, les essais et l'aptitude à la fonction des appareils électriques de détection de monoxyde de carbone conçus pour un fonctionnement continu dans des locaux à usage domestique. L'appareil peut être alimenté par le réseau ou par batterie. Ces appareils ont pour fonction de signaler une accumulation de CO, ce qui permet à l'occupant de réagir avant d'être exposé à un risque significatif.
L'EN 50291 2 spécifie des exigences supplémentaires pour les appareils destinés à être utilisés dans les véhicules de loisir et locaux similaires.
NOTE 1   L'EN 50291-1 s'applique aux caravanes et résidences mobiles.
La présente Norme européenne spécifie les deux types d'appareils suivants:

Ta evropski standard določa splošne zahteve za sestavo, preskušanje in lastnosti električnih naprav za odkrivanje ogljikovega monoksida, ki so namenjene stalnemu delovanju v stanovanjskih objektih. Naprave se lahko napajajo prek glavnega električnega omrežja ali baterije. Namen teh naprav je opozoriti na kopičenje CO, tako da lahko stanovalec ukrepa, preden je izpostavljen bistvenemu tveganju.
Dodatne zahteve za naprave, ki se uporabljajo v vozilih za počitnice ali rekreacijo in v podobnih prostorih, so navedene v standardu EN 50291-2.
OPOMBA 1: Za počitniške prikolice velja standard EN 50291-1.
Ta evropski standard določa dve vrsti naprav, in sicer naprave:

This document supersedes EN 50291-1:2010.
The main technical changes compared to the previous edition EN 50291-1:2010 are:

— End of Life indicator has been made mandatory and must include an audible and visible warning;

— Guidance has been added for assessing battery capacity and expected life;
— Requirements for mains powered alarms with back-up supply have been added;
— The number of potential interference gases has been increased;
— Tests have been added for an optional alarm silence facility;

— Requirements for the audible alarm and associated red visual signal have been clarified; low battery, fault

and End-of-life audible and visual warnings are given in an informative annex;

— An informative annex has been added for apparatus displaying low (Warning) CO levels;

— Requirements have been added for apparatus using radio links;

— The sound output alarm requirement has been increased in line with the EN 14604 smoke alarm

requirements.

1 Scope

This European Standard specifies general requirements for the construction, testing and performance of

electrically operated carbon monoxide gas detection apparatus, designed for continuous operation in domestic

premises. The objective is to detect defective fossil fuel or solid fuel appliances so that they can be repaired or

replaced. The function of the standard is not to monitor low levels of CO for health purposes. (Annex F gives

recommendations for units displaying low (warning) CO concentrations). The apparatus may be mains-

powered or battery-powered. Such apparatus is intended to warn of an acute level of CO, enabling the

occupant to react before being exposed to significant risk.

Additional requirements for apparatus to be used in recreational vehicles and similar premises are specified in

EN 50291-2.

5 Design requirements
5.1 General requirements

5.1.1 Unless otherwise stated, the requirements specified are applicable to both type A and type B apparatus.

5.1.2 The apparatus shall reliably detect the presence of carbon monoxide in domestic premises under the

stated application conditions, shall produce an alarm, and in the case of type A apparatus, shall be able to

initiate executive actions whenever the conditions (in terms of both level and duration) exceed pre-set alarm

set points.

5.1.3 Apparatus which includes functionality additional to carbon monoxide detection shall perform according

to the requirements of this European Standard and it is recommended that it meets the requirements of the

applicable European Standard or equivalent relevant to the additional functionality.

5.1.4 The apparatus, electrical assemblies and components shall comply with the requirements of 5.2 to 5.14

and the performance requirements of Clause 6.
For apparatus utilizing radio links, the requirements of Clause 7 shall be met.
Apparatus shall be designed for continuous operation.
The apparatus shall not be class 0 as defined in EN 60335-1:2012, 3.3.7.

5.1.5 Where the CO sensor is replaceable, the design of the apparatus shall be such that replacement of the

sensor does not affect compliance with the requirements of this European Standard.

This condition shall be verified using the information and the documentation given by the manufacturer of the

apparatus.
5.1.6 The apparatus shall indicate end-of-life as per 5.5.4.

5.1.7 The apparatus shall be provided with an installation and maintenance instruction booklet or leaflet

meeting the requirements of Clause 8.

Standard SIST EN 50291-1 (sl), Javljalniki plina – Električne naprave za odkrivanje ogljikovega

monoksida v gospodinjstvih – 1. del: Preskusne metode in zahtevane lastnosti, 2018, ima status

slovenskega standarda in je istoveten evropskemu standardu EN 50291-1 (en), Gas detectors –

Electrical apparatus for the detection of carbon monoxide in domestic premises – Part 1: Test methods

and performance requirements, 2018.
Ta standard nadomešča SIST EN 50291-1:2010 in SIST EN 50291-1:2010/A1:2012.
NACIONALNI PREDGOVOR

Evropski standard EN 50291-1:2018 je pripravil tehnični odbor pri Evropskem komiteju za

standardizacijo v elektrotehniki CLC/TC 216 Javljalniki plina. Slovenski standard SIST EN 50291-1:2018

je prevod evropskega standarda EN 50291-1:2018. V primeru spora glede besedila slovenskega

prevoda v tem standardu je odločilen izvirni evropski standard v angleškem jeziku. Slovensko izdajo

standarda je potrdil Strokovni svet SIST za področja elektrotehnike, informacijske tehnologije in

telekomunikacij.

Odločitev za privzem tega standarda je v juliju 2018 sprejel Strokovni svet SIST za področja

elektrotehnike, informacijske tehnologije in telekomunikacij.
ZVEZA Z NACIONALNIMI STANDARDI

S privzemom tega evropskega standarda veljajo za omejeni namen referenčnih standardov vsi

Evropski predgovor

Ta dokument (EN 50291-1:2018) je pripravil tehnični odbor CLC/TC 216 "Javljalniki plina".

Določena sta bila naslednja roka:
‒ zadnji datum, do katerega mora EN dobiti status
nacionalnega standarda, bodisi z objavo istovetnega
besedila ali z razglasitvijo (dop) 2019-02-26
‒ zadnji datum, do katerega morajo biti
razveljavljeni vsi nacionalni standardi, ki niso
skladni s tem dokumentom. (dow) 2021-02-26
Ta dokument nadomešča EN 50291-1:2010.
Glavne tehnične spremembe v primerjavi s prejšnjo izdajo EN 50291-1:2010 so:

– kazalnik izrabljenosti postane obvezen ter mora vsebovati zvočno in vizualno opozorilo;

– dodano je navodilo za ocenjevanje kapacitete baterije in njene pričakovane življenjske dobe;

– dodane so zahteve za omrežno napajane alarme z rezervnim napajanjem;
– povečalo se je število potencialnih motečih plinov;
– dodani so preskusi za izbirni sistem za utišanje alarma;

– pojasnjene so zahteve za zvočni alarm in z njim povezan vizualni rdeči signal; v informativnem

dodatku so podana zvočna in vizualna opozorila na prazno baterijo ter zahteve glede okvare in

izrabljenosti;

– dodan je informativni dodatek o aparatih, ki prikazujejo nizke (opozorilne) ravni ogljikovega

monoksida (CO);
– dodane so zahteve za aparate, ki uporabljajo radijske povezave;

– skladno z zahtevami za dimne alarme v EN 14604 so povečane zahteve za izhodno raven

zvočnega alarma.

Upoštevati je treba, da so nekateri elementi tega dokumenta lahko predmet patentnih pravic. CENELEC

ni odgovoren za identifikacijo katerekoli ali vseh teh pravic.

1 Področje uporabe

Ta evropski standard določa splošne zahteve za konstrukcijo, preskušanje in delovanje električnih

aparatov za zaznavanje ogljikovega monoksida, ki so zasnovani za neprekinjeno obratovanje v domačih

prostorih. Cilj je odkriti okvarjene aparate na fosilna ali trdna goriva, da jih je mogoče popraviti ali

zamenjati. Naloga standarda ni nadzorovanje nizkih ravni ogljikovega monoksida za zdravstvene

namene (priporočila za aparate, ki prikazujejo nizke (opozorilne) koncentracije ogljikovega monoksida,

so v dodatku F). Aparati so lahko omrežno ali baterijsko napajani. Takšni aparati opozarjajo na akutno

raven ogljikovega monoksida, kar stanovalcu omogoči, da se odzove, preden je izpostavljen znatnemu

tveganju.

Dodatne zahteve za aparate, ki se uporabljajo v vozilih za rekreacijo in v podobnih prostorih, so

določene v EN 50291-2.
OPOMBA 1: Za mobilne počitniške hiške velja EN 50291-1.
Ta evropski standard navaja dva tipa aparatov, in sicer:

– tip A – zagotavlja vizualni in zvočni alarm ter izvršilni ukrep v obliki oddajnega izhodnega signala,

ki lahko neposredno ali posredno aktivira prezračevalne ali druge pomožne naprave;

– tip B – zagotavlja samo vizualni in zvočni alarm.
OPOMBA 2: Aparati tipa A in B so lahko med seboj povezani.
Ta evropski standard izključuje aparate za:

– zaznavanje gorljivih plinov, razen samega ogljikovega monoksida (glej EN 50194-1),

– zaznavanje ogljikovega monoksida v industrijskih postrojih (glej EN 45544-1, EN 45544-2 in EN

45544-3) ali poslovnih prostorih,
– merjenje ogljikovega monoksida za zaznavanje dima in požara,
– merjenje ogljikovega monoksida na parkiriščih in v tunelih.
