IEC 60512-17-1:2010 when required by the detail specification, is used for testing connectors within the scope of technical committee 48. It may also be used for similar devices when specified in a detail specification. The object of this standard is to detail a standard test method to assess the ability of a cable-clamping device to withstand mechanical stresses likely to be encountered during normal usage.

EN 60512-17-1:2010 (identical to IEC 60512-17-1:2010) specifies a standardised test method - Test 17a: Cable clamp robustness - for assessing the mechanical durability of cable‑clamping devices used with connectors for electronic equipment. The standard is intended for connectors in the scope of IEC/TC 48 and may be applied to similar devices where a detail specification requires it. Its objective is to determine whether a cable‑clamping device can withstand mechanical stresses likely during normal use.

• Acceptance criteria: No damage to the cable or specimen; permanent displacement of the cable/wire bundle must not exceed the limit specified in the detail specification.
• Details to specify: specimen preparation, cable type, mounting, applied force and point of application, number of applications, final measurement requirements, and any deviations from the standard method.
