Environmental management - Life cycle assessment - Critical review processes and reviewer competencies (ISO 14071:2024)

ISO/TS 14071:2014 provides additional specifications to ISO 14040:2006 and ISO 14044:2006. It provides requirements and guidelines for conducting a critical review of any type of LCA study and the competencies required for the review.
ISO/TS 14071:2014 provides:
details of a critical review process, including clarification with regard to ISO 14044:2006;
guidelines to deliver the required critical review process, linked to the goal of the life cycle assessment (LCA) and its intended use;
content and deliverables of the critical review process;
guidelines to improve the consistency, transparency, efficiency and credibility of the critical review process;
the required competencies for the reviewer(s) (internal, external and panel member);
the required competencies to be represented by the panel as a whole.
ISO/TS 14071:2014 does not cover the applications of LCA.

Dieses Dokument legt Anforderungen für die Durchführung einer Kritischen Prüfung jeder Art von Ökobilanzstudie sowie für die Kompetenzen, die für die Prüfung erforderlich sind, fest und bietet einen entsprechenden Leitfaden. Es stellt zusätzliche Anforderungen und Leitfäden zu ISO 14040 und ISO 14044 bereit.
Dieses Dokument gibt vor:
 Einzelheiten eines Prozesses der Kritischen Prüfung, einschließlich Klärung in Bezug auf ISO 14044;
 Leitfäden zur Durchführung des erforderlichen Prozesses der Kritischen Prüfung, in direktem Zusammenhang zu dem Ziel der Ökobilanz und ihrer vorgesehenen Verwendung;
 Inhalt und zu liefernde Ergebnisse des Prozesses der Kritischen Prüfung;
 Leitfäden zur Verbesserung der Konsistenz, Transparenz, Wirksamkeit und Glaubwürdigkeit des Prozesses der Kritischen Prüfung;
 die erforderlichen Kompetenzen des/der Prüfer(s) (intern, extern und Ausschussmitglied);
 die erforderlichen Kompetenzen, die durch den Ausschuss als Ganzes zu verkörpern sind.
Dieses Dokument kann auf andere Normen anwendbar sein, die eine unabhängige Prüfung von Verfahren und Angaben, die auf Ökobilanzen beruhen (z. B. ISO 14045, ISO 14046, ISO 14025, ISO 14067) erfordern, und es kann an die spezifischen Anwendungsbereiche angepasst werden. Andere Referenz-Normen können im Prozess der Kritischen Prüfung einbezogen werden.

This document (EN ISO 14071:2024) has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 207
"Environmental management" in collaboration with CCMC.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an
identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by April 2025, and conflicting national standards shall be
withdrawn at the latest by April 2025.

ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards
bodies (ISO member bodies). The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out through

Introduction
For life cycle assessment (LCA), critical review is the conformity assessment approach in accordance with
ISO 14040 and ISO 14044. These standards contain the overarching requirements for critical review in
concise form.
