This part of EN 814 specifies minimum requirements which ensure that an air or water cooled air conditioner, air/air or water/air heat pump, with electrically driven compressor, is fitted for the use designated by the manufacturer, when used in cooling mode. When these units are used in heating mode by reversing the refrigerating cycle, then prEN 255-4 applies. This standard also specifies recommendations for the way the characteristics of units shall be specified by the manufacturer in order to assist users and manufacturers in the understandingand comparison of various types.

Die vorliegende Norm gilt für Luftkonditionierer mit elektrisch angetriebenen Verdichtern der folgenden Bauarten: Komfort-Luftkonditionierer, Einkanal-, örtliche und Verfahrens-Luftkonditionierer. Sie gilt nicht für Geräte mit variabler Luftmenge. Diese Norm legt die Mindestanforderungen fest, die gewärleisten, dass der Luftkonditionierer für den vom Hersteller vorgesehenen Einsatzbereich geeignet ist. Sofern nichts anderes angegeben ist, werden die Prüfungen nach den Festlegungen in den entsprechenden Teilen der EN 814 durchgeführt.

This clause of Part 1 is replaced by the following.
This part of IEC 60335 deals with the safety of electric heat pumps, including sanitary hot
water heat pumps, air conditioners, and dehumidifiers incorporating motor-compressors
and hydronic fan coils units, their maximum rated voltages being not more than 250 V for
single phase appliances and 600 V for all other appliances. Partial units are within the scope
of this International Standard.
Appliances not intended for normal household use but which nevertheless may be a source of
danger to the public, such as appliances intended to be used by laymen in shops, in light
industry and on farms, are within the scope of this standard.
The appliances referenced above may consist of one or more factory-made assemblies. If
provided in more than one assembly, the separate assemblies are to be used together, and
the requirements are based on the use of matched assemblies.
NOTE 101 A definition of ‘motor-compressor’ is given in IEC 60335-2-34, which includes the statement that the
term motor-compressor is used to designate either a hermetic motor-compressor or semi-hermetic motor-
compressor.
NOTE 102 Requirements for refrigerating safety are covered by ISO 5149-1, ISO 5149-2, and ISO 5149-3.
Requirements for containers intended for storage of the heated water included in sanitary hot water heat pumps
are, in addition, covered by IEC 60335-2-21.
This standard does not take into account refrigerants other than group A1, A2L, A2 and A3 as
defined by ISO 817 classification, A2L refrigerants are limited to those of a molar mass of
more than or equal to 42 kg/kmol based on WCF – Worst Case Formulation as specified in
ISO 817.
This standard specifies particular requirements for the use of flammable refrigerants. Unless
specifications are covered by this standard, including the annexes, requirements for
refrigerating safety are covered by ISO 5149.
The parts of ISO 5149 of particular concern to this standard are as follows:
• ISO 5149-1:2014, Refrigerating systems and heat pumps – Safety and environmental
requirements – Part 1: Definitions, classification and selection criteria.
• ISO 5149-2, Refrigerating systems and heat pumps – Safety and environmental
requirements – Part 2: Design, construction, testing, marking and documentation;
• ISO 5149-3:2014, Refrigerating systems and heat pumps – Safety and environmental
requirements – Part 3: Installation site.
Supplementary heaters, or a provision for their separate installation, are within the scope of
this standard, but only heaters which are designed as a part of the appliance package, the
controls being incorporated in the appliance.
NOTE 103 Attention is drawn to the fact that
• for appliances intended to be used in vehicles or on board ships or aircraft, additional requirements may be
necessary;
• for appliances subjected to pressure, additional requirements may be necessary;
• in many countries, additional requirements are specified, for example, by the national health authorities
responsible for the protection of labour and the national authorities responsible for storage, transportation,
building constructions and installations.
NOTE 104 This standard does not apply to
• humidifiers intended for use with heating and cooling equipment (IEC 60335-2-88);
• appliances designed exclusively for industrial processing;
• appliances intended to be used in locations where special conditions prevail, such as the presence of a
corrosive or explosive atmosphere (dust, vapour or gas).

This European Standard specifies the terms and definitions for the rating and performance of air conditioners, liquid chilling packages and heat pumps using either air, water or brine as heat transfer media, with electrically driven compressors when used for space heating and/or cooling.
It also specifies the terms and definitions for the rating and performance of process chillers.
This European Standard does not apply to heat pumps for domestic hot water, although certain definitions can be applied to these.
This European Standard applies to:
-   factory-made units that can be ducted,
-   factory-made liquid chilling packages with integral condensers or for use with remote condensers,
-   factory-made units of either fixed capacity or variable capacity by any means, and
-   air-to-air air conditioners which can also evaporate the condensate on the condenser side.
Packaged units, single split and multisplit systems are covered by this standard. Single duct and double duct units are covered by the standard.
In the case of units consisting of several parts, this European Standard applies only to those designed and supplied as a complete package, except for liquid chilling packages with remote condenser.
This European Standard is primarily intended for water and brine chilling packages but can be used for other liquid subject to agreement.
The units having their condenser cooled by air and by the evaporation of external additional water should have their performance in the cooling mode determined in accordance to EN 15218. For those which can also operate in the heating mode, the EN 14511 series applies for the determination of their performance in the heating mode.
NOTE 1   Part load testing of units is dealt with in EN 14825.
NOTE 2   All the symbols given in this text are used regardless of the language.

and performance of process chillers.
It also specifies the method of testing and reporting for heat recovery capacities, system reduced
capacities and the capacity of individual indoor units of multisplit systems, where applicable.
This document also makes possible to rate multisplit and modular heat recovery multisplit systems by
rating separately the indoor and outdoor units.

This European Standard establishes requirements for determining, in accordance with a standardized procedure, the sound power level emitted into the surrounding air by air conditioners, heat pumps, liquid chilling packages with electrically driven compressors when used for space heating and/or cooling, and/or for process, as described in the EN 14511 series and dehumidifiers as described in EN 810.
This European Standard also covers the measurement of the sound power level of evaporatively cooled condenser air conditioners, as defined in EN 15218. However, the measurement will be done without external water feeding and these units will thus be considered as the other air conditioners covered by the EN 14511 series.
It is emphasized that this measurement standard only refers to airborne noise.

This European Standard covers air conditioners, heat pumps and liquid chilling packages, including comfort and process chillers. It applies to factory made units defined in EN 14511-1, except single duct, double duct, control cabinet and close control units. It also covers direct expansion-to-water(brine) heat pumps (DX-to-water) as defined in EN 15879-1.
This European Standard also covers hybrid heat pumps as defined in this standard.
This European Standard gives the temperatures and part load conditions and the calculation methods for the determination of seasonal energy efficiency SEER and SEERon, seasonal space cooling energy efficiency ηs,c seasonal coefficient of performance SCOP, SCOPon and SCOPnet, and seasonal space heating energy efficiency ηs,h and seasonal energy performance ratio SEPR.
Such calculation methods may be based on calculated or measured values.
In case of measured values, this European Standard covers the test methods for determination of capacities, EER and COP values during active mode at part load conditions. It also covers test methods for electric power consumption during thermostat-off mode, standby mode, off-mode and crankcase heater mode.
NOTE 1 The word "unit" is used instead of the full terms of the products.
NOTE 2 The word "cooling" is used to refer to both space cooling and process cooling.

Appliances covered by these standards include one or a combination of the following:
   gas fired sorption chiller;
   gas fired sorption chiller/heater;
   gas fired sorption heat pump;
These standards apply to appliances only when used for space heating and cooling with or without heat recovery. Appliances can be monovalent, bivalent or hybrid types.
These standards apply to appliances having flue gas systems of type B and C (according to the CEN/TR 1749) and to appliances designed for outdoor installations. These European Standards apply to appliances that can be single ducted or double ducted.
These standards only apply to appliances having:
   integral burners under the control of fully automatic burner control systems;
   closed system refrigerant circuits in which the refrigerant does not come into direct contact with the water or air to be cooled or heated;
   mechanical means to assist transportation of the combustion air and/or the flue gas.
The above appliances can have one or more primary or secondary functions (i.e. heat recovery - see definitions prEN 12309-1:2012) and this standard applies to all such functions providing that the function concerned is dependent on circulation of fluid (refrigerant and/or solution) within the absorption, adsorption or refrigerant circuit(s).
NOTE 1   Any appliance function that is not dependent on circulation of the fluid within the absorption, adsorption, or refrigerant circuit(s) is assessed separately.
These standards are applicable to appliances that are intended to be type tested. Requirements for appliances that are not type tested would need to be subject to further consideration.
In the case of packaged units (consisting of several parts), the standard applies only to those designed and supplied as a complete package.
These standards do not apply to air conditioners.
The appliances having their condenser cooled by air and by the evaporation of external additional water are not covered by this standard.
Installations used for heating and/or cooling of industrial processes are not within the scope of these standards.
