M/324 - Measurement heating appliances
Mandate to CEN and CENELEC for the elaboration and adoption of measurement standards for household appliances : Water-heaters, hot-water storage appliances and water heating systems
General Information
This European Standard specifies a method for energy assessment of un-vented (closed) hot water storage tanks with a capacity up to 1 500 l, intended to be equipped with an external heat source and used for domestic hot water production. Whilst storage water heaters intended primarily for direct heating are not covered by this European Standard, it does allow the provision of electric heating elements for auxiliary use.

This document specifies a method for the energy assessment of domestic/sanitary hot water storage tanks of up to 2 000 l.
Whilst this document does not cover water heaters intended primarily for direct heating, it does allow the provision of electric heating elements for auxiliary use.
Primary heating buffer tanks are not covered by this document. Heat losses of domestic hot water storage tanks integrated into combi boilers marketed as a single unit are not covered by this document.

This European Standard is applicable to gas-fired appliances producing domestic hot water. It applies to both instantaneous and storage gas-fired appliances combined with electrical heat pump. It applies to a package marketed as single unit or fully specified by a manufacturer that have: - a gas heat input not exceeding 70 kW; - a hot water storage capacity not exceeding 500 litres. This European Standard EN 13203 is formed in several parts which cover aspects of domestic hot water production. Standard EN 13203-1 sets out in qualitative and quantitative terms the performance in delivery of domestic hot water for a selected variety of uses. It also gives a system for presenting the information to the user. This first part complements EN 26, EN 89 and EN 625. This Part 5 sets out a method for assessing the energy performance of gas fired appliances combined with heat pump with electrically driven compressor according to EN 16417. This European standard does not apply for gas boilers with recovery systems using combustion products as heat source for the electrical heat pump. When the electrical heat pump does not work for domestic hot water production in the summer period, the present standard is not applicable for energy performances assessing, EN 13203-2 must be used for energy performances assessing.

This European Standard specifies a method for the energy assessment of a domestic hot water system comprising an external heating boiler of specified minimum output indirectly heating an unvented (closed) hot water tank of up to 1 500 l. Whilst tanks intended primarily for direct heating are not covered by this European Standard, it does allow the provision of electric heating elements for auxiliary use.

This European Standard specifies methods for testing and reporting of the rating and it specifies requirements for marking of air/water and water/water heat pumps with electrically driven compressors when used for domestic hot water. When these units are used for space heating, then EN 14511, part 1 - 4 applies. This European Standard applies to factory-made units which can be ducted. This European Standard applies only the testing procedure for the domestic hot water production of the heat pump systems. Note:Testing procedures for simultaneous operation for domestic hot water production and space heating are not treated in this standard. In the case of units consisting of several parts, the standard applies only to those designed and supplied as a complete package.
This European Standard does not include any requirement about the quality of water.

This European Standard specifies methods for testing and reporting of the rating and it specifies requirements for marking of air/water, brine/water, water/water and direct exchange/water heat pumps with electrically driven compressors connected to or including a domestic hot water storage tank. When these units are used for space heating, then EN 14511 (all parts) applies.
In case of air-to-water heat pumps, this European Standard comprises only factory-made units which can be ducted on the airside.
This European Standard comprises only the testing procedure for the domestic hot water production of the heat pump system.
NOTE Testing procedures for simultaneous operation for domestic hot water production and space heating are not treated in this standard. Simultaneous means that domestic hot water production and space heating generation occur at the same time and may interact.
In the case of units consisting of several parts, the standard applies only to those designed and supplied as a complete package.
This European Standard does not include any requirement about the quality of water.

This European Standard is applicable to gas-fired appliances producing domestic hot water. It applies to both instantaneous and storage appliances; waters-heaters and combination boilers that have:
- heat input not exceeding 70 kW, and
- hot water storage capacity (if any) not exceeding 300 l.
In the case of combination boilers, with or without storage, domestic hot water production is integrated or coupled, the whole being marketed as a single unit.
This European Standard EN 13203 is formed in two parts, which cover two aspects of domestic hot water production.
EN 13203-1 sets out in qualitative and quantitative terms the performance in delivery of domestic hot water for a selected variety of uses. It also gives a system for presenting the information to the user. This first part complements EN 26, EN 89 and EN 625.
The present European Standard EN 13203-2 sets out a method for assessing the energy performance of the appliances. It defines a number of daily tapping cycles for each domestic hot water use, kitchen, shower, bath and a combination of these, together with corresponding test procedures, enabling the energy performances of different gas-fired appliances to be compared and matched to the needs of the user.
