Amendment No.3 to MI495 - Technical update (Annex ? of M/495) - Details of request to CEN, CENELEC and ETSI for Standardisation in the field of electrical lamps related equipment under Commission Regulations 244/2009, 874/2012 and 1194/2012
General Information
This part of IEC 62722 covers specific performance and environmental requirements for luminaires, incorporating electric light sources for operation from supply voltages up to 1 000 V. Unless otherwise detailed, performance data covered under the scope of this document are for the luminaires in a condition representative of new manufacture, with any specified initial aging procedures completed.
IEC 62722-1 covers requirements for luminaires to support energy efficient use and responsible environmental management to the end of life. The object of this Part 1 is to provide a set of requirements which are considered to be generally applicable to most types of luminaires. Where additional performance requirements for specific types of light source are relevant, these are specified in the IEC 62722-2 series. The IEC 62722-2 series can also cover a wider scope of performance aspects appropriate to the particular light source technology.
NOTE The structure of these performance standards also allows for the possibility of Part 3 of the IEC 62722 series to be introduced in the future should standardization of performance criteria linked to specific luminaire applications be determined as necessary (e.g. floodlighting, street lighting).
It is the intention that the requirements of this Part 1 are to be met by the provision of information and data provided by the luminaire manufacturer (or responsible vendor). Conformity is considered to be met by the provision of the requested information. Any verification of data is conducted by the measurement requirements of this document.
Semi-luminaires are not covered under the scope of this document.
For some types of luminaire (e.g. decorative or household) the provision of performance data under the scope of this document will not be appropriate.

IEC 62722-2-1:2014 specifies the performance requirements for LED luminaires, together with the test methods and conditions, required to show compliance with this standard. It applies to LED luminaires for general lighting purposes. This first edition of IEC 62722-2-1 cancels and replaces IEC PAS 62722-2-1. published in 2011. This edition constitutes a technical revision. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the Publicly Available Specification. a) The testing time is aligned with IEC 62717 and the option of 2 000 h is removed. Products containing modules not in compliance with IEC 62717 are now tested to 6 000 h. b) Testing sample sizes have been modified to give valid statistical data. c) The temperature reduction of 10 °C for street lanterns and floodlights has been removed. d) Life definitions have been updated and aligned with IEC 62717.

This International Standard specifies the performance requirements for single-capped and double-capped tungsten halogen lamps, having rated voltages of up to 250 V, used for the following applications:
- Projection (including cinematograph and still projection)
- Photographic (including studio)
- Floodlighting
- Special purpose
- General purpose
- Stage lighting
For some of the requirements given in this standard reference is made to "the relevant data sheet". For some lamps these data sheets are contained in this standard. For other lamps, falling under the scope of this standard, the relevant data are supplied by the lamp manufacturer or responsible vendor. The requirements of this standard relate only to type testing.
NOTE The requirements and tolerances permitted by this standard correspond to testing of a type test sample, submitted by the manufacturer for that purpose. In principle this type test sample should consist of units having characteristics typical of the manufacturer's production and being as close to the production centre point values as possible.
It may be expected with the tolerances given in the standard that products manufactured in accordance with the type test sample will comply with the standard for the majority of production. Due to the production spread however, it is inevitable that there will sometimes be products outside the specified tolerances. For guidance on sampling plans and procedures for inspection by attributes, see IEC 60410.
