ISO 10848 (all parts) specifies measurement methods to characterize the flanking transmission of one or several building components.
ISO 10848-3:2017 specifies laboratory and field measurements of buildings for Type B elements (defined in ISO 10848‑1) when the junction has a substantial influence.
Laboratory measurements are used to quantify the performance of the junction with suppressed flanking transmission from the laboratory structure. Field measurements are used to characterize the in situ performance and it is not usually possible to suppress unwanted flanking transmission sufficiently; hence, the results can only be considered representative of the performance of that junction when installed in that particular building structure.
ISO 10848-3:2017 is referred to in ISO 10848‑1:2017, 4.5 as being a supporting part to the frame document and applies to Type B elements that are structurally connected as defined in ISO 10848‑1.
The measured quantities can be used to compare different products, or to express a requirement, or as input data for prediction methods, such as ISO 12354‑1 and ISO 12354‑2.
The relevant quantity to be measured is selected according to ISO 10848‑1:2017, 4.5. The performance of the building components is expressed either as an overall quantity for the combination of elements and junction (such as Dn,f,ij and/or Ln,f,ij and/or Lne0,f,ij) or as the normalized direction-average velocity level difference  of a junction. Dn,f,ij, Ln,f,ij, Lne0,f,ij and  depend on the actual dimensions of the elements.

ISO 10848 legt Messverfahren zur Bestimmung der Flankenübertragung eines oder mehrerer Bauteile fest, die in dafür ausgelegten Prüfständen oder am Bau durchzuführen sind.
Dieser Teil von ISO 10848 legt Prüfstands- und Messungen am Bau von Gebäuden für Typ-B-Bauteile (in ISO 10848 1 definiert) fest, wenn die Stoßstelle wesentlichen Einfluss hat.
Prüfstandsmessungen werden zur Quantifizierung der Stoßstelleneigenschaften in Bezug auf unterdrückte Flankenübertragung von der Prüfstandkonstruktion verwendet. Messungen am Bau werden zur Charakterisierung der Eigenschaften im Einbauzustand verwendet, wobei die Unterdrückung unerwünschter Flankenübertragung üblicherweise nicht möglich ist. Daher können die Ergebnisse lediglich für die Eigenschaften der vorliegenden Stoßstelle im vorliegenden Gebäude als repräsentativ angesehen werden.
Dieser Teil der ISO 10848 ist in ISO 10848 1, 4.5, als unterstützender Teil zum Rahmendokument referenziert und gilt für Typ-B-Bauteile, die gemäß der Definition in ISO 10848 1 baulich verbunden sind.
Die gemessenen Größen können für den Vergleich unterschiedlicher Produkte oder für die Formulierung einer Anforderung oder als Eingangsdaten für Vorhersageverfahren wie ISO 12354 1 und ISO 12354 2 herangezogen werden.
Die entsprechende zu messende Größe wird nach ISO 10848 1, 4.5 ausgewählt. Die Gebrauchstauglichkeit der Bauteile wird entweder als Gesamtgröße für die Kombination von Bauteilen und Stoßstelle (z. B. ali več sestavnih delih stavb.
Ta dokument določa laboratorijske in terenske meritve elementov stavb tipa B (določenih
v standardu ISO 10848-1) pri pomembnem vplivu stikov.
Laboratorijske meritve se uporabljajo za kvantifikacijo lastnosti stika z majhnim bočnim prenosom iz laboratorijske konstrukcije. This document (EN ISO 10848-3:2017) has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 43

"Acoustics" in collaboration with Technical Committee CEN/TC 126 “Acoustic properties of building

elements and of buildings” the secretariat of which is held by AFNOR.

This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition (ISO 10848-3:2006), which has been

technically revised with the following changes:
a) extension to field measurements;

b) extension to building service equipment with the introduction of the normalized flanking

equipment sound pressure level;

c) normalized direction-averaged vibration level difference for junctions between lightweight

elements has been introduced.
