INTRODUCTION
Replace the fourth paragraph of the Introduction by the following:
Fires involving electrotechnical products can also be initiated from external non-electrical
sources. Considerations of this nature should be dealt with in the overall fire hazard
assessment.
Replace the seventh paragraph by the following:
This part of IEC 60695 describes a glow-wire flammability index test for materials. It should be
used to measure, describe, and rank the properties of materials in response to heat caused
by contact with an electrically heated wire under controlled laboratory conditions. This may be
useful for the evaluation of materials for use in products that may be exposed to excess
thermal stress such as a fault current flowing through a wire, overloading of components,
and/or bad connections. It should not be used to solely describe or appraise the fire hazard or
fire risk of materials, products, or assemblies under actual fire conditions. However, results of
this test may be used as elements of a fire hazard assessment which takes into account all of
the factors which are pertinent to a particular end use.

IEC 60695-1-30:2017 provides guidance for assessing and choosing candidate materials, components or sub-assemblies for making an end product based upon preselection testing.
It describes how preselection provides comparative fire hazard test methods to evaluate the performance of a test specimen and how preselection can be used in the selection of materials, parts, components and sub-assemblies during the design stage of an end product. It further describes how standardized test methods may be used as one part in the decision making processes directed to minimize the fire hazards from electrotechnical equipment. It takes into account the desired reaction to fire properties of the end product, and the possible effects of environmental conditions on the behaviour of the end product.

IEC 60695-11-5:2016 specifies a needle-flame test to simulate the effect of a small flame which may result from fault conditions, in order to assess the fire hazard by a simulation technique. It is applicable to electrotechnical equipment, its sub-assemblies and components and to solid electrical insulating materials or other combustible materials. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:
- The scope has been broadened to allow this test method to also simulate the effects of small flames from outside the equipment;
- Propane and butane gas are the specified fuel source with a minimum purity of 95 %;
- A new concept has been added which allows the burner to be moved during the test to avoid dripping material from falling onto the tip of the burner tube;
- The burner tube material is now a referenced source;
- The reference for the copper block material has changed - the ISO publication (ISO 1337) has been withdrawn with no replacement. A new callout is now used and Informative Annex C and a bibliography have been added. This basic safety publication is intended for use by technical committees in the preparation of standards in accordance with the principles laid down in IEC Guide 104 and ISO/IEC Guide 51.

Fire hazard testing - Part 1-10: Guidance for assessing the fire hazard of electrotechnical products - General guidelines

IEC 60695-1-10:2016 provides general guidance with respect to fire hazard testing on how to reduce to a tolerable level the risk of fire and the potential effects of fires involving electrotechnical products. It also serves as a signpost standard to the other guidance publications in the IEC 60695 series. It does not give guidance on the use of fire-resistant compartment boundaries or on the use of detection and suppression systems for the mitigation of fire risk. It describes the relationship between fire risk and the potential effects of fire, and provides guidance to IEC product committees on the applicability of qualitative and quantitative fire tests to the fire hazard assessment of electrotechnical products. Details of the calculation of fire risk are not included in the scope of this document. It emphasises the importance of the scenario approach to fire hazard and risk assessment and discusses criteria intended to ensure the development of technically sound hazard-based fire test methods. It discusses the different types of fire tests, in particular the nature of qualitative and quantitative fire tests. It also describes the circumstances under which it is appropriate for IEC product committees to maintain or develop qualitative fire tests. This standard is intended as guidance to IEC committees, and is to be used with respect to their individual applications. This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition published in 2009. This edition constitutes a technical revision. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:

Fire hazard testing - Part 10-3: Abnormal heat - Mould stress relief distortion test

IEC 60695-10-3:2016 specifies a mould stress relief distortion test. It is applicable to electrotechnical equipment including parts made from polymeric materials. This test method is intended to evaluate the effects caused by relief of the residual process-induced stress, set in a moulded polymeric assembly of an end product. This stress relief occurs when the sample (energized or not), is exposed to conditioning at a defined temperature for a defined period of time. The test specimen is considered to have satisfactorily withstood the test if, after conditioning to room temperature, it meets defined test criteria. This basic safety publication is primarily intended for use by technical committees in the preparation of standards in accordance with the principles laid down in IEC Guide 104 and ISO/IEC Guide 51.
