simplified representations, only essential features are shown, preferably in outline (in
order to save time and effort).
The degree of simplification depends on the kind of object represented, the scale of the
drawing and the purpose of the documentation. This means that either a general
simplified representation or a detailed one may be used. A detailed representation
shows more details of a seal, for example the configuration of lips (see IS0 9222-Z).
In order to avoid misunderstandings, only one kind of simplification, either the general
or the detailed simplified representation, should be used on a drawing.

Introduction
Le but de I’ISO 9222 est de donner des régles pour la représentation simplifiée des
joints d’étanchéité.
Le principe du dessin est de représenter l’objet à l’échelle en utilisant des traits. Dans
une représentation simplifiée, seules les caractéristiques essentielles de l’objet sont
représentées, de préférence, par un contour (pour épargner du temps et des efforts).
Le degré de simplification dépend du genre d’objet représenté, de l’échelle du dessin et
du but de la documentation. On peut ainsi utiliser une représentation simplifiée géné-
rale ou une représentation simplifiée particulière. La représentation simplifiée particu-
lière donne plus de détails du joint d’étanchéité, par exemple la configuration des lèvres
anti-poussières (voir ISO 9222-2).
Pour éviter des malentendus, il convient qu’une seule des deux représentations simpli-
fiées soit la représentation générale, soit la représentation particulière, soit utilisée sur
un dessin.
