BRIEF HISTORY
The IS0 Recommendation R 1046, Architectural and building drawings - Definitions and nomenclature, was
drawn up by Technical Committee ISO/TC 59, Building construction, the Secretariat of which is held by the Association
Française de Normalisation (AFNOR).
Work on this question led to the adoption of a Draft IS0 Recommendation.
In November 1967, this Draft IS0 Recommendation (No. 1426) was circulated to all the IS0 Member Bodies
for enquiry. It was approved, subject to a few modifications of an editorial nature, by the following Member Bodies :

DEFINITIONS AND NOMENCLATURE
1. SCOPE
This IS0 Recommendation specifies the definitions of architectural and building drawings and the nomenclature
of the different types of drawings used in this field.
2. DEFINITIONS
2.1 View
Representation on a plane of how an observer, situated at infinity and looking in a direction perpen-
dicular to the plane, sees a building, a part of a building, or a building component*.
NOTE. - This form of representation corresponds to the orthogonal parallel projection used in descriptive geometry.
2.2 Sections
2.2.1 Section (French : section)**. View of the parts contained in an intersecting surface, usually a plane
surface.

HISTORIQUE
La Recommandation ISO/R 1046, Dessins de bâtiment et d’architecture - Définitions et nomenclature, a été
élaborée par le Comité Technique ISO/TC 59, Construction immobilière, dont le Secrétariat est assuré par l’Association
Française de Normalisation (AFNOR).
Les travaux relatifs à cette question aboutirent à l’adoption d’un Projet de Recommandation ISO.
En novembre 1967, ce Projet de Recommandation IS0 (NO 1426) fut soumis à l’enquête de tous les Comités
Membres de I’ISO. Il fut approuvé, sous réserve de quelques modifications d’ordre rédactionnel, par les Comités
Membres suivants :

2.1 Vue
Représentation, sur un plan, de ce qu’un observateur, situé à l’infini et regardant dans une direction
perpendiculaire à ce plan, voit d’un bâtiment, d’un ouvrage” ou d’un composant de construction*.
NOTE. -- Ce type de représentation correspond à la projection orthogonale parallèle employée en géomktrie descriptive.
2.2 Coupes et sections
2.2.1 Sertion**. Vue des parties contenues dans une surface sécante, généralement plane.
2.2.2 Coupe**. Section généralement verticale complérée par la vue des parties situées en arrière de la
surface sécante.
