BRIEF HISTORY
The IS0 Recommendation R 1 126, Determination of loss on heating of carbon blackfor the rubber
industry, was drawn up by Technical Committee ISO/TC 45, Rubber, the Secretariat of which is held by the
British Standards Institution (BSI).
Work on this question led to the adoption of a Draft IS0 Recommendation.
In September 1967, this Draft IS0 Recommendation (No. 1309) was circulated to all the IS0 Member
Bodies for enquiry. It was approved, subject to a few modifications of an editorial nature, by the following
Member Bodies :

DETERMINATION OF LOSS ON HEATING OF CARBON BLACK
FOR THE RUBBER INDUSTRY
I. SCOPE
This IS0 Recommendation describes a method for determining the loss on heating of carbon black for use in
the rubber industry. This loss on heating consists primarily of moisture, but traces of other volatile materials
may also be lost. This method is not applicable to treated carbon blacks which contain added volatile materials.

HISTORIQUE
La Recommandation ISOIR 1 126, Determination de la perte à la chaleur du noir de carbone destine à
l’industrie du caoutchouc, a été élaborée par le Comité Technique iSO/TC 45, Caoutchouc, dont le Secrétariat
est assuré par la British Standards Institution (BSI).
Les travaux relatifs à cette question aboutirent à l’adoption d’un Projet de Recommandation ISO.
En septembre 1969, ce Projet de Recommandation IS0 (NO 1309) fut soumis à l’enquête de tous les
Comités Membres de I’ISO. II fut approuvé, sous réserve de quelques modifications d’ordre rédactionnel, par
les Comités Membres suivants :

I. OBJET
La présente Recommandation IS0 fixe une méthode de détermination de la perte à la chaleur du noir de
carbone destiné à l’industrie du caoutchouc. Cette perte à la chaleur provient en majeure partie de l’humidité,
mais également d’autres matières volatiles. Cette méthode n’est pas applicable au cas des noirs de carbone
traités qui contiennent des matières volatiles d’addition.
