BRIEF HISTORY
The IS0 Recommendation R 115, Classijîcation and Composition of Remelt Ingots
and Pigs of Unalloyed Aluminium, was drawn up by Technical Committee ISO/TC 79,
Light Metals and their Alloys, the Secretariat of which is held by the Association Française
de Normalisation (AFNOR).
A first draft proposal, drawn up by the ISO/TC 79 Secretariat, was considered by the
Technical Committee at its first meeting, held in Paris, in January 1955, but no agreement
could be reached.
Working Group No. 2, Unalloyed Aluminium Ingots, set up for this purpose, was
assigned to prepare a second draft proposal, which the Technical Committee examined
during its second meeting, held in Paris, in October 1956.
Following the decisions reached at this meeting, the ISO/TC 79 Secretariat drew up
a third draft proposal, which was submitted to the members of the Technical Committee,
in February 1957, and which was adopted, by correspondence, as a Draft IS0 Recom-
mendation.
On 17 January 1958, the Draft IS0 Recommendation (No. 202) was distributed to
all the IS0 Member Bodies and was approved by the following Member Bodies:

Council, which decided, in July 1959, to accept it as an IS0 RECOMMENDATION.

OF REMELT INGOTS AND PIGS OF UNALLOYED ALUMINIUM
1. SCOPE
This IS0 Recommendation relates to the classification and composition of remelt ingots
and pigs of primary and secondary unalloyed aluminium, excluding refined aluminium.
Remelt ingots and pigs are classified according to their type (primary and secondary
aluminium) and graded according to their composition.
2. REQUIREMENTS
In all cases the type and grade should be agreed between the purchaser and the vendor and
stated on delivery.

4. COMPOSITION
4.1 La qualité des lingots d’aluminium est déterminée par la teneur conventionnelle en
aluminium, définie dans le paragraphe 4.2 et exprimée avec au moins deux décimales.
4.2 La teneur conventionnelle en aluminium est la différence entre 100 % et la somme
des teneurs en fer, silicium, cuivre et toutes autres impuretés métalliques présentes
en quantité égale ou supérieure à 0,010 %. Les différentes qualités sont précisées dans
le tableau ci-dessous.

5. PRESCRIPTIONS DE LIVRAISON
5.1 Le producteur est responsable de la teneur conventionnelle en aluminium du métal
fourni, ainsi qu’elle est définie dans le paragraphe 4.2 ci-dessus et dans la colonne 7
du tableau. Par ailleurs, le producteur s’engage, pour les éléments métalliques autres
que l’aluminium, à maintenir leurs teneurs inférieures ou égales aux limites indiquées
dans les colonnes 2, 3, 4, 5 et 6.
5.2 Le producteur effectue sur chaque lot de métal l’analyse des éléments fer, silicium
et cuivre et contrôle périodiquement les teneurs des autres éléments métalliques dans
des conditions laissées à sa discrétion, en vue d’assurer les garanties demandées dans
les paragraphes 4.2 et 5.1 ci-dessus.
5.3 En donnant l’analyse d’un lot, le producteur de lingots fournit les valeurs des teneurs
en fer, silicium et cuivre qui ont été obtenues par l’analyse d’échantillons prélevés
sur le lot lui-même.
5.4 Le lingot porte une ou plusieurs marques qui permettent de l’identifier tant au point
de vue origine, type (première ou deuxième fusion) qu’au point de vue qualité.

HISTORIQUE
La Recommandation ISO/R 115, Classification et composition des lingots en aluminium
non allié, a été élaborée par le Comité Technique ISO/TC 79, Métaux légers et leurs alliages,
dont le Secrétariat est assuré par l’Association française de normalisation (AFNOR).
Un premier avant-projet, élaboré par le Secrétariat ISO/TC 79, fut examiné par le
Comité Technique lors de sa première réunion, tenue à Paris, en janvier 1955, mais il ne
put être l’objet d’un accord.
Le Groupe de Travail NO 2, Lingots en aluminium non allié, créé à cet effet, fut chargé
d’établir un deuxième avant-projet que le Comité Technique examina lors de sa deuxième
réunion, tenue à Paris, en octobre 1956.
A la suite des décisions prises au cours de cette réunion, le Secrétariat ISO/TC 79
établit un troisième avant-projet qui fut soumis en février 1957 aux membres du Comité
Technique et qui fut adopté, par correspondance, comme Projet de Recommandation ISO.
En date du 17 janvier 1958, ce Projet de Recommandation IS0 (No 202) fut distribué
à tous les Comités Membres de 1’ISO et approuvé par les Comités Membres suivants:

de 1’ISO qui décida, en juillet 1959, de l’accepter comme RECOMMANDATION ISO.
