Foreword
ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies (ISO
member bodies). The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out through ISO technical
committees. Each member body interested in a subject for which a technical committee has been established has
the right to be represented on that committee. International organizations, governmental and non-governmental, in
liaison with ISO, also take part in the work. ISO collaborates closely with the International Electrotechnical
Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrotechnical standardization.
International Standards are drafted in accordance with the rules given in the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 3.
Draft International Standards adopted by the technical committees are circulated to the member bodies for voting.
Publication as an International Standard requires approval by at least 75 % of the member bodies casting a vote.
International Standard ISO 6743-4 was prepared by Technical Committee TC 28, Petroleum products and
lubricants, Subcommittee SC 4, Classification and specifications, Working Group WG 3, Classification and
specifications of hydraulic fluids, which is a joint working group with ISO/TC 131, Fluid power systems.

1 Scope
This part of ISO 6743 establishes the detailed classification of fluids of family H (Hydraulic systems) which belong to
class L (Lubricants, industrial oils and related products). It should be read in conjunction with ISO 6743-0. This
classification excludes, for the time being, automotive brake fluids and airborne fluids. However, this edition includes
environmentally acceptable fluid categories, i.e.: HETG, HEPG, HEES and HEPR.

L'ISO (Organisation internationale de normalisation) est une fédération mondiale d'organismes nationaux de

1 Domaine d’application
La présente partie de l'ISO 6743 établit la classification détaillée de la famille H (Systèmes hydrauliques) qui
appartient à la classe L (Lubrifiants, huiles industrielles et produits connexes). Il convient de la lire conjointement
avec l'ISO 6743-0. La présente classification ne s'applique pas, pour le moment, aux fluides de freins pour
automobiles ni aux fluides pour systèmes hydrauliques utilisés en aéronautique à bord de appareils. Toutefois, la
présente édition inclut les catégories de fluides acceptables pour l'environnement, c'est à dire: HETG, HEPG, HEES
et HEPR.
