BRIEF HISTORY
The IS0 Recommendation R 88, Reverse Bend Testing of Steel Sheet and
Strip Less than 3 mm Thick, was drawn up by Technical Committee ISO/TC 17,
Steel, the Secretariat of which is held by the British Standards Institution
(B. S. I .) .
The drawing up of an IS0 Recommendation concerning this test was decided
on at the second meeting of ISO/TC 17, held in New York, in June 1932. The
Technical Committee instructed its Working Group No. 1, IIZethods of Mecha-
nical Testing for Steel, to prepare a draft proposal which was circulated to the
members of the Technical Committee in March 1954.
The comments of the Member Bodies were considered by the Working Group
which submitted, in August 1954, a revised draft proposal to the members
of ISO/TC 17. The revised draft proposal was discussed at the fourth
meeting of the full Committee, held in Stockholm, in June 1955, along with the
comments received, and was adopted, with a number of small amendments, as a
Draft IS0 Recommendation.
On 31 January 1957, the Draft IS0 Recommendation (No. 153) was sub-
mitted to all the IS0 Member Bodies and, subject to a few modifications, was
approved by the following Member Bodies:

IS0 RECOMMENDATION.

rectangular test piece held at one end, each

HISTORIQUE
La Recommandation ISO/R 88, Essai de pliage alterné des fôles et feuil-
lards en acier d’épaisseur inférieure à 3 mm, a été élaborée par le Comité Technique
ISO/TC 17, Acier, dont le Secrétariat est assumé par la British Standards
Institution (B.S. I.).
L’élaboration d’une Recommandation IS0 concernant cet essai fut décidée
lors de la deuxième réunion ISO/TC 17, tenue à New York, en juin 1952. Le
Comité Technique chargea son Groupe de Travail No 1, Méthodes d’essais
mécaniques pour l’acier, de préparer un avant-projet qui fut distribué aux
membres du Comité Technique, en mars 1954.
Les observations présentées par les Comités Membres furent étudiées par
le Groupe de Travail qui soumit, en août 1954, un avant-projet revisé aux

mentaires reçus, à la quatrième réunion plénière du Comité Technique, tenue à
Stockholm, en juin 1955, et fut adopté, sous réserve de quelques légers amende-
ments, comme Projet de Recommandation ISO.
En date du 31 janvier 1957, ce Projet de Recommandation IS0 (No 153)
fut distribué à tous les Comités Membres de 1’ISO et approuvé, sous réserve
de quelques modifications, par les Comités Membres suivants :
