Ferritic-pearlitic steels for precipitation hardening from hot-working temperatures

This European Standard gives the technical delivery requirements for semi-finished products and bars of the alloy special steels listed in table 3 and 5. The prodcuts are supplied in the conditions given in table 1, line 2 to 4, and in one of the surface conditions given in table 2. In special cases, variations in these technical delivery requirements or additions to them may form the subject of an agreement at the time of enquiry and order (see Annex A).

Overview

EN 10267:1998 is a CEN European Standard that defines the technical delivery requirements for semi-finished products and bars of ferritic‑pearlitic steels intended for precipitation hardening from hot‑working temperatures. The standard covers which alloy special steels are included, the permitted supply conditions, and surface condition options. Where necessary, variations or additions to these delivery requirements can be agreed at enquiry and order (see Annex A).

Key Topics

  • Scope and product types
    • Applies to semi‑finished products and bars of the alloy special steels listed in the standard’s tables.
  • Technical delivery requirements
    • Defines requirements suppliers must meet when delivering specified steels (mechanical, chemical and inspection requirements are typically covered in such standards).
  • Supply conditions
    • Products are supplied in the conditions identified in table 1 (lines 2–4) of the standard - i.e., the standard specifies acceptable thermal/mechanical states at delivery.
  • Surface conditions
    • One of the surface conditions listed in table 2 must be met for supplied products.
  • Contractual variations
    • Annex A permits agreed deviations or additions to the standard’s delivery requirements at the time of enquiry and order.
  • Applicable material class
    • Focuses on ferritic‑pearlitic, heat‑treatable steels suitable for precipitation hardening following hot forming.

(Note: EN 10267:1998 lists specific tables for steel grades, supply conditions and surface finishes; consult the published standard for exact table contents and numerical requirements.)

Applications

This standard is practical for organizations and professionals who need to specify, procure, manufacture or test ferritic‑pearlitic steels intended for precipitation hardening after hot working. Typical users include:

  • Steel manufacturers and mill quality departments
  • Procurement and supply chain teams specifying semi‑finished products and bars
  • Design and materials engineers selecting steels for hot‑forming and post‑form hardening
  • Inspection and testing laboratories ensuring compliance with delivery requirements

Typical uses include supply contracts for bars and semi‑finished sections where controlled precipitation hardening behavior and defined surface/delivery conditions are required for downstream heat treatment and fabrication.

Related standards

  • EN 10267:1998 sits within the heat‑treatable steels and high‑quality steels families (ICS codes 77.140.10 and 77.140.20). For full compliance and cross‑referencing, users should consult the official EN 10267:1998 document and related EN standards covering testing, chemical analysis and specific steel grades.
