Gypsum based adhesives for gypsum blocks - Definitions, requirements and test methods

This European Standard specifies the characteristics and performance of gypsum based adhesives used for assembling gypsum blocks or other gypsum units. It covers the following performance characteristics related to the essential requirements :
- reaction to fire ;
- release of dangerous substances ;
measured according to the corresponding European test methods.
It defines the reference tests for technical specifications.
It provides for the evaluation of conformity of the product to this European Standard.
This European Standard covers also additional technical characteristics that are of importance for the use and acceptance of the product by the Building Industry :
- direct airborne sound insulation ;
- bond strength ;
- thermal resistance calculated with thermal conductivity values from the Table 1 (see 5.3.2).

Anwendungsbereich
Diese Europäische Norm beschreibt die Eigenschaften und das Verhalten von Gipsklebern, die zur Verbin-
dung von Gips-Wandbauplatten oder anderen Gips-Wandbauelementen verwendet werden. Die Norm ent-
hält Aussagen zu den folgenden, auf den wesentlichen Anforderungen beruhenden Leistungsmerkmalen:
- Brandverhalten;
- Freisetzung von Gefahrenstoffen.
Diese Leistungsmerkmale sind mit den entsprechenden europäischen Prüfverfahren nachzuweisen.
Die Norm definiert die Referenzprüfverfahren für technische Anforderungen.
Diese Norm legt die Bewertung der Konformität von Produkten mit dieser Europäischen Norm fest.
Sie behandelt darüber hinaus zusätzliche technische Eigenschaften, die für die Akzeptanz und Anwen-
dung des Produktes durch die Bauwirtschaft wichtig sind:
- Luftschalldämmung;
- Haftzugfestigkeit;
- Wärmedurchlasswiderstand, der aus den in Tabelle 1 angegebenen Werten für die Wärmeleitfähigkeit
berechnet wird (siehe 5.3.2).

thermal conductivity in Watts per metre per kelvin (W/m.K); 23-50 thermal conductivity of the hardened plaster when in equilibrium at 23 °C and 50 % relative humidity inWatts per metre per Kelvin (W/m.K).5 Requirements5.1 Fire behaviour5.1.1 Reaction to fireGypsum based adhesives for gypsum blocks are classified in Euroclass A1 (no contribution to fire) without testingwhen they contain less than 1 % by weight or volume (whichever is the more onerous) of organic material.If the products contain more than 1 % by weight or volume of organic material, they shall be determined andclassified in accordance with prEN 13501-1 : 2000.5.1.2 Fire resistanceGypsum based adhesives (a mixture of calcium sulphate and additives in small quantities) for gypsum blocks donot modify the fire resistance of the work in which it is used.5.2 Direct airborne sound insulationWhen relevant, the direct airborne sound insulation of partitions or wall linings assembled using gypsum basedadhesives shall be determined according to EN ISO 140-3 and EN ISO 717-1.5.3 Thermal properties5.3.1 Thermal resistanceWhen required, the thermal resistance of elements of construction is calculated using the formula given inEN ISO 6946. For adhesives, the values of thermal conductivity necessary for this calculation are given in 5.3.2.5.3.2 Thermal conductivityDesign values of the thermal conductivity of gypsum plaster used in the manufacture of gypsum based adhesivesare given in Table 1.
