This European Standard applies to Exterior-grade Compact laminates of thickness 2 mm and greater produced by using a high pressure process. It specifies requirements for standard and flame-retardant laminates intended for use under outdoor weather conditions such as direct sunlight rain and frost. Two levels of performance are specified; one for moderate exterior conditions, and the other for severe exterior conditions.
Laminates complying with this European Standard are referred to as Exterior-grade Compact laminates, and are characterized by their high tensile strength, high impact resistance, thermal shock resistance, and resistance to weather and corrosion. They are available in a variety of decorative colours, with high resistance to colour change and aging in outdoor applications. When they are self-supporting Exterior-grade Compact laminates are ready for installation, and only require cutting to size, drilling, etc. to suit the application. EN 438-2 specifies the methods of test relevant to this part of EN 438.

Schicht¬pressstoffe, die dieser Europäischen Norm entsprechen, werden als Außen-Kompakt-Schicht¬press-stoffe (en: Exterior Grade Compact Laminates) bezeichnet und sind charakterisiert durch hohe Zug-festigkeit, hohe Sto߬festigkeit, Beständigkeit gegen schnelle Temperaturwechsel und die Beständigkeit gegen Witterung und Korrosion. Sie sind in einer Vielzahl dekorativer Farben mit einer hohen Beständigkeit gegen Farb¬ver¬änderungen und Alterung bei Anwendungen im Freien erhältlich. Selbsttragende Außen-Kompakt-Schicht¬press¬¬stoffe sind verlegefertig vorgerichtet, so dass es bei der vorgesehenen Anwendung nur erforderlich ist, sie zu¬zu¬schneiden, zu bohren usw. Die für diesen Teil von EN 438 zutreffenden Prüf¬ver¬fahren sind in EN 438-2 festgelegt.

La présente Norme européenne s’applique stratifiés compacts pour usage en extérieur d’épaisseur égale ou supérieure à 2 mm produits en utilisant un procédé haute pression. Elle spécifie les exigences pour les stratifiés standard et avec retardateurs de flamme destinés à être exposés à des conditions atmosphériques extérieures tels que le rayonnement solaire direct, la pluie et le gel. Deux niveaux de performance sont spécifiés, l’un pour les conditions extérieures modérées et l’autre pour des conditions extérieures rigoureuses.
Les stratifiés conformes à la présente Norme européenne sont désignés comme des stratifiés compacts pour usage en extérieur et se caractérisent par leur résistance élevée à la traction leur résistance élevée au choc, leur résistance au choc thermique et leur résistance aux intempéries et à la corrosion.
