ABSTRACT
This specification lists code word names for bare overhead electrical conductors that are recognized in North America. Code word names are used to describe various conductor constructions used in North America, Europe and elsewhere in the world. The code word name construction can be modified with the use of suffix modifiers that identify additional construction variations. For example, the type of steel core material used in an ACSR (aluminum conductors, steel reinforced) type of conductor may be modified with the letter designation "/GA3" denoting the strength and type of coating for the steel core material. The code word names are grouped into tables of like constructions. The tables provide the applicable ASTM standard for which the conductor construction may be built to. They include code word names that are referenced in Canadian Standards Association (CSA) and European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC) standards.
SCOPE
1.1 This specification lists code word names for bare overhead electrical conductors that are recognized in North America. A procedure has been outlined for adding additional code word names to this standard. Code word names have been in existence for many years describing various conductor constructions used in North America, Europe and elsewhere in the world. Their origin is not clearly understood. The historical basis of this standard originates from code word names developed years ago by member utility companies that participated in the US Aluminum Association, Technical Committee.
1.2 The code word names are grouped into tables of like constructions. The code word name construction can be modified with the use of suffix modifiers that identify additional construction variations. For example the type of steel core material used in an ACSR type of conductor may be modified with the letter designation “/GA3” denoting the strength and type of coating for the steel core material.
1.3 The tables provide the applicable ASTM standard for which the conductor construction may be built to. For conductors that are unique to use in Canada, the applicable CSA International standard is referenced.
1.4 The tables include code word names that are referenced in Canadian CSA and European CENELEC standards. The information is believed to be correct however the user of this document is encouraged to consult the applicable CSA or CENELEC standard for confirmation.
1.5 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

ABSTRACT
This specification covers the standard requirements for bare combination unilay-stranded conductors made from round wires of aluminum 1350 and 8000 series of aluminum alloys, for insulated conductors to be used for electrical purposes. Aluminum 1350 wires in tempers -H19, -H16 or -H26, -H14 or -H24, and -H142 or -H242 and 8000 series aluminum alloy wires in tempers “0” and H1X or H2X are permitted. These conductors shall be constructed with a central core wire surrounded by two layers of helically laid wires, resulting in an outer diameter equal to the compressed-stranded equivalent conductors. Electric-butt welds, cold pressure welds, or electric-butt cold-upset welds may be made in the finished individual wires composing the conductor. Mechanical (tension) and electrical tests shall be performed on the wires composing the conductors that are annealed and not annealed after stranding. The mass and electrical resistance of a unit length of stranded conductor shall be determined as a function of the length of lay. The conductors shall meet the breaking strength, tensile strength, and bending strength requirements.
SCOPE

ABSTRACT
This specification covers shaped wire compact concentric-lay-stranded aluminum conductors, steel supported (ACSS/TW) for use as overhead electrical conductors. Electric-butt welds, cold-pressure welds, and electric-butt, cold upsed welds in the finished individual aluminum wires composing the conductor may be made during the stranding process. The electrical resistivity of the material shall meet the minimum resistivity specified. The rated strength of the completed conductor may be determined by mechanical tests. Mass and density of the conductors shall be determined.
SCOPE
1.1 This specification covers shaped wire compact concentric-lay-stranded aluminum conductors, steel supported (ACSS/TW) for use as overhead electrical conductors (see Explanatory Note 1).
1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units that are provided for information only and are not considered standard.
1.2.1 Exceptions—For conductor sizes designated by AWG or kcmil sizes, the requirements in SI units are numerically converted from the corresponding requirements in inch-pound units. For conductor sizes designated by SI units only, the requirements are stated or derived in SI units. For density, resistivity, and temperature, the values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard.
1.3 ACSS/TW is designed to increase the aluminum area for a given diameter of conductor by the use of trapezoidal shaped wires (TW), or to reduce the diameter for a given area of aluminum. The conductors consist of a central core of round steel wire(s) surrounded by two or more layers of trapezoidal aluminum 1350-0 wires. Different strandings of the same size of conductor are identified by type, which is the approximate ratio of steel area to aluminum area expressed in percent (see Table 1, Table 2 and Table 3). For the purpose of this specification, the sizes listed in Table 1 and Table 2 are tabulated on the basis of the finished conductor having an area or outside diameter equal to that of specified sizes of standard ACSR, ACSS, and ACSR/TW so as to facilitate conductor selection.
1.4 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

ABSTRACT
This specification covers concentric-lay-stranded self-damping aluminum conductors, steel-reinforced, and its component wires for use as overhead electrical conductors. The tensile strength and elongation requirements of the round and trapezoidal wires shall be the same except for the shape and diameter tolerance. Joints shall not be made in the finished steel wires. The lay factor and direction are specified. The strength and electrical resistance of a complete conductor are calculated. Tests for mechanical and electrical properties of aluminum and steel core wires shall be made before stranding. Gap dimensions shall be measured during fabrication of the conductor.
SCOPE
1.1 This specification covers concentric-lay-stranded self-damping aluminum conductor, steel-reinforced (ACSR/SD), and its component wires for use as overhead electrical conductors (Explanatory Notes 1 and 2).
1.2 The values stated in inch-pound or SI units are to be regarded separately as standard. Each system shall be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in non-conformance with the specification. For conductor sizes designated by AWG or kcmil, the requirements in SI units have been numerically converted from corresponding values stated or derived in inch-pound units. For conductor sizes designated by SI units only, the requirements are stated or derived in SI units.
1.2.1 For density, resistivity, and temperature, the values stated in SI units are to be regarded as standard.
Note 1: ACSR/SD is designed to control aeolian vibration by integral damping. The conductors consist of a central core of a round steel wire or wires surrounded by two layers of trapezoidal aluminum 1350-H19 wires or two layers of trapezoidal aluminum 1350-H19 wires and one layer of round aluminum 1350-H19 wires (Fig. 1). The trapezoidal-wire layers are separated from each other and from the steel core by two small annular gaps that provide the conductors self-damping characteristics. The round aluminum wires are in tight layer contact between themselves and the underlying trapezoidal wire layer. Different strandings of the same size of conductor are identified by type, which is the approximate ratio of steel area to aluminum area, expressed in percent (Table 1 and Table 2).
FIG. 1 Illustrations of Typical ACSR/SD Strandings
Note 2: The aluminum and temper designations conform to ANSI Standard H 35.1. Aluminum 1350 corresponds to UNS A91350 in accordance with Practice E527.
1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
1.4 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

SCOPE
1.1 This specification covers bare combination unilay-stranded conductors made from round wires of aluminum 1350 and 8000 series of aluminum alloys, for insulated conductors for electrical purposes. Aluminum 1350 wires in tempers -H19 (extra hard), -H16 or -H26 (3/4 hard), -H14 or -H24 (1/2 hard), and -H142 or -H242 (1/2 hard) and 8000 series aluminum alloys wires in tempers “0” and H1X or H2X are permitted. These conductors shall be constructed with a central core wire surrounded by two layers of helically laid wires, resulting in an outer diameter equal to the compressed-stranded equivalent conductors.
Note 1: For the purpose of this specification, combination unilay conductor is defined as follows: a central core wire surrounded by a layer of six helically laid wires of the same diameter as the core wire with a helically laid outer layer containing six smaller wires alternated between six wires of the same diameter as the wires in the layer underneath. Both layers have a common length and direction of lay (see Fig. 1).
FIG. 1 Cross Section of Conductor
1.1.1 For the purpose of this specification, normal conductor classification (Class AA, A, B, C) is not applicable, as these conductors are intended for subsequent insulation. The descriptive term combination unilay-stranded shall be used in place of conductor classification (Note 2 and Note 3).
Note 2: Prior to 1975, aluminum 1350 was designated as EC aluminum.
Note 3: The aluminum and temper designations conform to ANSI Standard H35.1. Aluminum 1350 corresponds to Unified Numbering System A91350 in accordance with Practice E527. Unified Numbering System alloy designations for 8000 Series aluminum alloys in accordance with Practice E527 are listed in Table number 1 of Specification B800.
1.2 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in non-conformance with the standard.
1.3 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.

ABSTRACT
This specification covers shaped wire compact concentric-lay-stranded aluminum conductor, steel-reinforced (ACSR/TW) and its component wires for use as overhead electrical conductors. Requirements for (1) wire stranding (2) tensile strength and elongation, (3) joints such as electric-butt welds, electric-butt cold-upset welds, or cold-pressure welds, and (4) lay length, diameter, direction, and factor are detailed. The construction requirements include: nominal aluminum cross sectional area, conductor type, nominal number of aluminum wires, number of layers, number and diameter of the steel core wire, mass per unit length, rated strength, and outside diameter of the shaped wire compact. The methods of determining mass per unit length, cross-section, and electrical resistance of the stranded conductor are given. Mechanical and electrical tests shall be performed before stranding.
SCOPE
1.1 This specification covers shaped wire compact concentric-lay-stranded aluminum conductor, steel-reinforced (ACSR/TW) and its component wires for use as overhead electrical conductors (Explanatory Note 1 and Note 2).
1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units that are provided for information only and are not considered standard.
Note 1: ACSR/TW is designed to increase the aluminum area for a given diameter of conductor by the use of trapezoidally shaped wires (TW). The conductors consist of a central core of round steel wire(s) surrounded by two or more layers of trapezoidal aluminum 1350-H19 wires. Different strandings of the same size of conductor are identified by type, which is the approximate ratio of steel area to aluminum area expressed in percent (Table 1, Table 2 and Table 3). For the purpose of this specification, the sizes listed in Table 1 and Table 2 are tabulated on the basis of the finished conductor having an area or outside diameter equal to that of specific sizes of standard ACSR so as to facilitate conductor selection.
Note 2: The aluminum and temper designations conform to ANSI Standard H 35.1. Aluminum 1350 corresponds to Unified Numbering System (UNS) A91350 in accordance with Practice E527. (A) Code words shown in this column are obtained from Specification B1006. They are provided for information only.(B) Mass per unit length is based on Class A zinc-coated steel. To convert to kg/km, multiply the lb/1000 ft value × 1.4887.(C) Rated strengths were calculated in accordance with 9.1 using steel stresses at 1 % for Class A coating in accordance with Specification B498/B498M (1 kip = 1000 lbf = 4.448 kN).(D) To convert the diameter (inches) to mm, multiply the inch value × 25.4.(E) To convert from kcmil to mm2 area, multiply the kcmil value × 5.067 × 10-4.(F) For 795 kcmil Type 10 (Puffin ACSR TW) conductor the indicated 0.1108 in. steel wire size does not correspond with the concentric round wire 795 kcmil 22/7 Puffin ACSR conductor. The round wire construction utilizes a 0.1056” diameter steel core wire. The industry accepted dimension for the Puffin ACSR TW steel wire is 0.1108 in. Technically this renders the construction as a Type 11 conductor. The conductor mass, rated strength and diameter values correspond to the 0.1108 in. diameter steel core.  (A) Code words shown in this column are obtained from Specification B1006. They are provided for information only.(B) To convert from kcmil to mm2 area, multiply the kcmil value x 5.067 x 10-4.(C) Mass per unit length is based on Class A zinc-coated steel. To convert to kg/km, multiply the lb/1000 ft value x 1.4887.(D) Rated strength was calculated in accordance with 9.1 using steel stresses at 1 % for Class A coating in accordance with Specification B498/B498M (1 kip = 1000 lbf = 4.445 kN).(E) To convert the diameter (inches) to mm, multiply the inch value x 25.4.
