General Information
SIGNIFICANCE AND USE
5.1 The techniques described herein are used to produce leak-tight soldered joints between copper and copper alloy tube and fittings, either in shop operations or in the field. Skill and knowledge on the part of the operator or mechanic are required to obtain a satisfactorily soldered joint.
SCOPE
1.1 This practice covers a procedure for making capillary joints by soldering of copper and copper alloy tube and fittings.
1.2 This procedure is applicable to pressurized systems such as plumbing, heating, air conditioning, refrigeration, mechanical, fire sprinkler, and other similar systems. ASME B31.5 and B31.9 reference the techniques used for satisfactory joint preparation. It is also used in the assembly of nonpressurized systems such as drainage, waste, and vent.
1.3 It is not applicable to the assembly of electrical or electronic systems.
1.4 Tube and fittings are manufactured within certain tolerances to provide for the small variations in dimensions associated with manufacturing practice. Applicable specifications are listed in Appendix X1.
1.5 A variety of solders are available that will produce sound, leak-tight joints. Choice of solder will depend upon the type of application and on local codes. For potable water systems, only lead-free solders shall be used, some of which are described in Specification B32.

ABSTRACT
This specification covers seamless copper bus pipe and tube intended for use as electrical conductors. The material shall be manufactured by such hot-working, cold-working, and annealing processing as to produce a uniform, seamless wrought structure in the finished product. The method of manufacture shall be such that the finished material conforms to the specified temper properties. The material shall conform to the requirements for the copper UNS no. as specified. The material shall be furnished in either the O60 (soft anneal) or H80 (hard drawn) temper. The material shall conform to the maximum electrical resistivity requirements prescribed. The product shall conform to the prescribed mechanical property requirements. The product shall conform to the prescribed bend testing requirements. The test specimens of material designated as Copper UNS Nos. C10100, C10200, C10300, C10400, C10500, C10700, and C12000 shall be free of cuprous oxide. When tested, material designated as Copper UNS nos. C10100, C10200, C10300, C10400, C10500, C10700, and C12000 shall pass the embrittlement test. The product shall be passed through an eddy-current testing unit adjusted to provide information on the suitability of the product for the intended application.

ABSTRACT
This specification covers the requirements for seamless UNS C10200, C12000, or C12200 copper alloy tubes used for connection, repairs, or alternations of field air conditioning or refrigeration units. Materials in the form of billets, bars, or tubes should be used to produce a homogeneous uniform wrought structure by either hot or cold working. Each tube should be cold drawn to the finished size and wall thickness. Coiled lengths with soft annealed tempers should be bright annealed after coiling then dehydrated and either capped, plugged, crimped, or otherwise closed at both ends. Straight lengths with hard drawn tempers should be cleaned and either capped, plugged, or otherwise closed at both ends. The grain sizes, tensile properties, and eddy-current and cleanness test results should conform to the values listed herein.
SCOPE
1.1 This specification covers the requirements for seamless copper tube intended for use in the connection, repairs, or alternations of air conditioning or refrigeration units in the field.
Note 1: Fittings used for soldered or brazed connections in air conditioning and refrigeration systems are described in ASME Standard B16.22.
Note 2: The assembly of copper tubular systems by soldering is described in Practice B828.
Note 3: Solders for joining copper tubular systems are described in Specification B32. The requirements for acceptable fluxes for these systems are described in Specification B813.

ABSTRACT
This specification establishes the requirements for seamless copper and copper alloy tubing on which the external or internal surface, or both, has been modified by a coldforming process to produce an integral enhanced surface for improved heat transfer. The tubes are typically used in surface condensers, evaporators, and heat exchangers. The seamless copper and copper alloy tubing shall have the internal or external surface, or both, modified by a cold forming process to produce an integral enhanced surface for improved heat transfer. The tube, after enhancing, shall be supplied in the annealed (O61) or as-fabricated temper. The enhanced sections of tubes in the as-fabricated temper are in the cold-worked condition produced by the fabricating operation. The unenhanced sections of tubes in the asfabricated temper are in the temper of the tube prior to enhancing, annealed (O61), or light drawn (H55), and suitable for rolling-in operations. Samples of annealed-temper (O61) tubes selected for test shall be subjected to microscopical examination and shall show uniform and complete recrystallation. Grain size and mechanical properties such as tensile strength and yield strength of the alloys shall be determined. Expansion and flattening tests shall be done to the alloys for performance evaluation. Non-destructive tests such as eddy-current test, hydrostatic test, and pneumatic test shall be done as well.

This specification establishes the requirements for brass and copper pipe nipples within a specified size range. Chromium-plated pipe nipples covered by this specification are intended for use in the interior of decorative appliances. Both brass and copper pipe nipples should be produced from regular or extra strong pipes while chromium-plated pipe nipples are produced from regular weight brass pipes. All pipe nipples should be threaded in both ends with NPT Taper Pipe Threads except for close nipples with lengths shorter than the specified value. This specification covers seamless copper alloy water tubes for general plumbing and similar applications in fluid conveyance. These water tubes made from UNS C10200, C12000, and C12200 copper alloys are commonly used with solder, flared, or compression-type fittings. The materials should be cold-drawn to size and the tubes finished by cold working and annealing to produce the required temper and surface finish. When tubes are furnished in coils, annealing is done after coiling, while those furnished in straight lengths should be in the drawn temper. The numerical values in this specification are not presented in inch-pound units, but rather, in metric or SI units only.

SCOPE
1.1 This specification establishes the requirements for seamless copper water tube suitable for general plumbing, similar applications for the conveyance of fluids, and commonly used with solder, flared, or compression-type fittings. The type of copper water tube suitable for any particular application is determined by the internal or external fluid pressure, by the installation and service conditions, and by local requirements. Means of joining or bending are also factors which affect the selection of the type of tube to be used.2
Note 1: Annealed tube is suitable for use with flared or compression fittings, and with solder-type fittings, provided rounding and sizing of the tube ends is performed where needed.
Note 2: Drawn temper tube is suitable for use with solder-type fittings. Types K and L tube, in the drawn temper, are suitable for use with certain types and sizes of compression fittings.
Note 3: Fittings used for soldered or brazed connections in plumbing systems are described in ASME B16.18 and ASME B16.22.

Each tube shall be subjected to an eddy-current test. Tubes shall be tested normally in the fabricated temper; however, they may be tested in the annealed temper at the option of the manufacturer.

This specification covers welded copper-nickel alloy pipes produced from Copper Alloy UNS Nos. C70600 and C71500 for general engineering applications. Pipes may be produced in any one of the following tempers: as-welded from annealed sheets, strips, or plates (WM50); as-welded from cold-worked sheets, strips, or plates (WM00, WM01, WM02, and so forth); welded and annealed (WO50); welded, light cold drawn (WR00) or hard cold drawn (WR04), and stress relieved; or fully finished as annealed, light drawn (WH00) or hard drawn (WH04), and stress relieved. This specification covers seamless copper and copper-alloy rectangular waveguide tube intended for use as transmission lines in electronic equipment. Four types of material are specified having the following nominal compositions: C10200, C10300, C12000, and C22000. The copper and copper-alloy tubes shall be finished by such cold-working and annealing operations as are necessary to meet the required properties. The material shall conform to the chemical requirements specified. The material shall conform to the Rockwell hardness requirements prescribed. The test specimens of copper UNS nos. This specification establishes the requirements for welded copper tube with a longitudinal seam free of filler metal produced from sheet or strip of one of the Copper UNS Nos. C10100, C10200, C10300, C10800, C11000, C12000, C12200, and C14200. Copper C11000 welded tube shall not be used in applications where hydrogen embrittlement during heating is a concern. Tempers of the welded tube types are as follows: as-welded: WM50, WM02, or WM04, welded and annealed: W060 and W050, welded and cold drawn: WH00, WH02, and WH04, and fully finished: O60, O50, H55, H58, and H80. The product shall be manufactured by forming the material into a tubular shape on a suitable forming mill and welding shall be accomplished by any process that produces forge or fusion welds. The external flash of forge welded tube shall be removed by scarfing and the internal flash shall be treated by IFI (to remain in the as-welded condition), IFR (scarfing) or IFD (rolling or drawing) technique. The material shall conform to the chemical composition requirements prescribed for copper, phosphorus, and arsenic, as determined by chemical analysis. The welded tubes shall meet the requirements specified for grain size, electrical mass resistivity, mechanical properties such as tensile strength and Rockwell hardness, dimensions, and mass. Performance requirements includes microscopical examination, hydrogen embrittlement susceptibility test, and expansion test. Requirements for tensile, electromagnetic (eddy-current), hydrostatic, and pneumatic tests are detailed.

1.1.1 The (1) external tube surface, (2) internal tube surface, or (3) both internal and external tube surfaces of these tubes shall have a textured surface for improved heat transfer or fluid flow, or both. The strip material used to produce the textured surface tubes have been modified to form a textured surface strip material from a smooth surface strip material by a cold-forming process or series of processes. The produced welded textured tubes may be used in condensers, evaporators, heat exchangers, and other similar heat transfer apparatus in diameters up to and including 1.5 in. (38.1 mm) for various wall thicknesses up to and including 0.07 in. (1.78 mm).
1.2 The tubing sizes and thicknesses usually furnished to this specification are 1/8 in. (3.2 mm) in inside diameter to 1.5 in. (38.1 mm) in outside diameter and 0.015 in. to 0.070 in. This specification covers seamless red brass pipe in all nominal pipe sizes, both regular and extra-strong. The pipe in the annealed temper shall be suitable for use in plumbing, boiler feed lines, and for similar purposes. In the drawn general purpose temper, the pipe shall be suitable for architectural applications, such as guard railings and stair hand railings. The chemical requirements for the specimen are as follows: copper, lead, iron, and zinc. The Specimen will undergo expansion test and the expanded pipe shall show no cracking or rupture visible to the unaided eye. It shall then undergo the mercurous nitrate test to examine if there are cracks. The material shall be passed through an eddy-current testing unit adjusted to provide information on the suitability of the material for the intended application. It shall then undergo the pneumatic test to for visual detection of any leakage, such as by having the material under water or by the pressured-differential method. The material shall be free of defects of a nature that interfere with normal commercial applications. It shall be well cleaned and free of dirt.

For forged-welded tube, the edges of the strip shall be heated to a required welding temperature, usually by high-frequency electric current, and be pressed firmly together causing a forged-type joint to be formed with internal and external flash or bead. ABSTRACT
This specification covers arc-welded copper-alloy pipe for use in brackish water or seawater piping systems. The pipe shall be made from annealed copper alloy sheet or plate that conforms to the requirements specified for copper alloys with UNS nos. C61300, C61400 C70620 and C71520. These specifications reference test methods E 62, E 76, and E 478 for the appropriate chemical analysis. Welded joints shall be made either manually or automatically by an arc-welding process. The pipe material shall conform to the chemical composition requirements prescribed. With test taken across any weld, the pipe shall be capable of conforming to the required transverse tensional strength value. The transverse-face and root-guided bend test shall be taken with the weld in the center of the test specimen and there shall be no open defects exceeding the required value measured in any direction on the convex surface of the specimen when tested in accordance with test methods E 190. Each length of pipe shall be capable of withstanding an internal hydrostatic pressure without showing evidence of weakness, defects, or leakage. All welded joints in any individual length of pipe shall be radiographed completely. Weld thickness shall conform to wall-thickness requirements after removal of reinforcement.

ABSTRACT
This guide establishes the requirements and test methods for liquid and paste fluxes for joining by soldering of copper and copper alloy tube and fittings in plumbing, heating, air conditioning, mechanical, fire sprinkler, and other similar systems. There shall be a clear indication that in the areas of flux reaction, the sheets shall show a corrosion and residue-free surface comparable with the unwetted areas as determined by visual inspection. The specimen shall undergo the spreading test wherein the oven shall be equipped with a sight glass for visible control of the melting of the solder. The conductivity cell to be used shall be kept immersed in distilled water at ambient temperature for a given minimum number of hours before use. Resistivity tests shall be performed for both soldered and unsoldered specimen. The specimen shall then undergo corrosive test by being dipped onto ethanol.
