ISO/TC 2/SC 11 - Fasteners with metric external thread

This document specifies the characteristics of hexagon socket countersunk head screws with reduced loadability due to head design, in steel and stainless steel, with metric coarse pitch threads M2 to M20, and with product grade A. NOTE 1 Other dimensional options are given in ISO 888, ISO 965-1 and ISO 4753. NOTE 2 The reduced loadability (related to the countersunk head dimensions in combination with penetration of the hexagon socket specified in this document) implies a limitation of ultimate tensile load; see Table 5. NOTE 3 Particular attention is needed to ensure alignment of the countersunk head with the bearing surface of the countersink in the assembly.

ISO 10664:2014 specifies the shape and basic dimensions of the hexalobular internal driving feature for bolts and screws, including the gauging method. The curvature of the contour of the hexalobular internal driving feature is defined and additional information which can be used when drawing the contour given. The intent is to provide the details necessary for inspection of the hexalobular driving feature. ISO 10664:2014 is not suitable for, nor intended to be used as, a manufacturing standard.

ISO 4017:2014 specifies the characteristics of hexagon head screws with threads from M1,6 up to and including M64, of product grade A for threads M1,6 to M24 and nominal lengths up to and including 10d or 150 mm, whichever is the shorter, and product grade B for threads over M24 or nominal lengths over 10d or 150 mm, whichever is the shorter.

ISO 14581:2013 specifies the characteristics of hexalobular socket countersunk flat head screws in product grade A and with threads from M2 to M10 inclusive and with reduced loadability (according to Table 3).

ISO 14582:2013 specifies hexalobular socket countersunk head bolts and screws with high head (full loadability), of product grade A, and thread diameters from M3 up to and including M10 and property classes 4.8, 8.8 and 10.9.

ISO 898-1:2013 specifies mechanical and physical properties of bolts, screws and studs made of carbon steel and alloy steel when tested at an ambient temperature range of 10 °C to 35 °C. Fasteners (the term used when bolts, screws and studs are considered all together) that conform to the requirements of ISO 898-1:2013 are evaluated at that ambient temperature range. They might not retain the specified mechanical and physical properties at elevated temperatures (see Annex B) and/or lower temperatures. Certain bolts and screws might not fulfil the tensile or torsional requirements of ISO 898-1:2013 because the geometry of their heads reduces the shear area in the head compared to the stress area in the thread. These include bolts and screws having a low or countersunk head. ISO 898-1:2013 is applicable to bolts, screws and studs made of carbon steel or alloy steel, having triangular ISO metric screw thread in accordance with ISO 68-1, with coarse pitch thread M1,6 to M39, and fine pitch thread M8×1 to M39×3, with diameter/pitch combinations in accordance with ISO 261 and ISO 262, and having thread tolerances in accordance with ISO 965-1, ISO 965-2 and ISO 965-4. It is not applicable to set screws and similar threaded fasteners not under tensile stress (see ISO 898-5). It does not specify requirements for such properties as weldability, corrosion resistance resistance to shear stress, torque/clamp force performance (for test method, see ISO 16047), or fatigue resistance.

ISO 15072:2012 specifies the characteristics of hexagon bolts with flange with metric fine pitch thread, small series, with product grade A, and with nominal thread diameters from 8 mm up to and including 16 mm and property classes 8.8, 9.8, 10.9, 12.9 or 12.9 (underlined) and A2‑70.

ISO 4162:2012 specifies the characteristics of hexagon bolts with flanges, small series, of product grade A (except the driving feature which is according to product grade B), with threads from M5 up to and including M16, and property classes 8.8 to 10.9 and A2‑70. If, in special cases, specifications other than those listed in ISO 4162:2012 are required, they can be selected from existing International Standards, for example ISO 261, ISO 888, ISO 898‑1, ISO 965‑2 and ISO 3506-1.

ISO 898-5:2012 specifies mechanical and physical properties of set screws and similar threaded fasteners made of carbon steel or alloy steel when tested at an ambient temperature range of 10 °C to 35 °C. Fasteners (the term used when set screws and similar threaded fasteners are considered all together) which conform to the requirements of ISO 898-5:2012 are evaluated at that ambient temperature range. Fasteners according to ISO 898-5:2012 are classified to specified hardness classes and are intended for use under compressive stress only. ISO 898-5:2012 is applicable to set screws and similar fasteners: made of carbon steel or alloy steel, having a triangular ISO metric screw thread according to ISO 68-1, with a coarse pitch thread M1,6 to M30, and fine pitch thread M8×1 to M30×2, with diameter/pitch combinations according to ISO 261 and ISO 262, and having thread tolerances according to ISO 965-1 and ISO 965-2.

ISO 7047:2011 specifies the characteristics of countersunk raised head screws of product grade A, with threads from M1,6 to M10 inclusive and with type H or type Z cross recess.

ISO 2010:2011 specifies the characteristics of countersunk slotted raised head screws of product grade A and with threads from M1,6 to M10 inclusive.

ISO 2009:2011 specifies the characteristics of slotted countersunk flat head screws of product grade A and with threads from M1,6 to M10 inclusive.

ISO 7046-2:2011 specifies the characteristics of recessed countersunk flat head screws with threads M2 up to and including M10, of grade A and of property class 8.8 for steel, A2-70 for stainless steel and CU2 and CU3 for non-ferrous metals.

ISO 7045:2011 specifies the characteristics of pan head screws of product grade A, with threads from M1,6 to M10 inclusive, and with type H or type Z cross recess.

ISO 7046-1:2011 specifies the characteristics of countersunk flat head screws with threads from M1,6 to M10 inclusive, of product grade A and property class 4.8, and with type H or type Z cross recess.

ISO 1580:2011 specifies the characteristics of slotted pan head screws of product grade A and with threads from M1,6 to M10 inclusive.

ISO 4766:2011 specifies the characteristics of slotted set screws with flat point and thread sizes from M1,2 to M12 inclusive and product grade A.

ISO 7380-2:2011 specifies the characteristics of hexagon socket button head screws with collar with threads from M3 up to and including M16, with product grade A and with reduced loadability.

ISO 7380-1:2011 specifies the characteristics of hexagon socket button head screws with threads from M3 up to and including M16, with product grade A and with reduced loadability.

ISO 1207:2011 specifies the characteristics of slotted cheese head screws of product grade A and with threads from M1,6 to M10 inclusive.

ISO 15071:2011 specifies the characteristics of hexagon bolts with flange, small series, of product grade A, with threads from M5 up to and including M16, and property classes 8.8, 9.8, 10.9 and A2‑70.

ISO 7048:2011 specifies the characteristics of cross-recessed cheese head screws of product grade A, with threads from M2,5 to M8 inclusive, and with cross recesses of types H and Z.

ISO 8676:2011 specifies the characteristics of hexagon head screws with metric fine pitch thread with nominal thread diameters, d, from 8 mm to 64 mm, of product grade A for nominal thread diameters, d, from 8 mm to 24 mm and nominal lengths, l, up to and including 10d or 150 mm, whichever is the shorter, and of product grade B for nominal thread diameters, d, over 24 mm or nominal lengths, l, over 10d or 150 mm, whichever is the shorter.

ISO 4018:2011 specifies the characteristics of hexagon head screws with threads from M5 up to and including M64, of product grade C.

ISO 14584:2011 specifies the characteristics of hexalobular socket raised countersunk head screws of product grade A, and with thread sizes from M2 up to and including M10.

ISO 14583:2011 specifies the characteristics of hexalobular socket pan head screws of product grade A and with thread sizes from M2 up to and including M10.

ISO 14580:2011 specifies the characteristics of hexalobular socket cheese head screws of product grade A and with thread sizes from M2 up to and including M10.

ISO 14579:2011 specifies the characteristics of hexalobular socket head cap screws, with thread sizes from M2 up to and including M20, of product grade A.

ISO 8765:2011 specifies the characteristics of hexagon head bolts with metric fine pitch thread with nominal thread diameters, d, from 8 mm to 64 mm, of product grade A for nominal thread diameters, d, from 8 mm to 24 mm and nominal lengths, l, up to and including 10d or 150 mm, whichever is the shorter, and of product grade B for nominal thread diameters, d, over 24 mm or nominal lengths, l, over 10d or 150 mm, whichever is the shorter.

ISO 4016:2011 specifies the characteristics of hexagon head bolts with threads from M5 up to and including M64, of product grade C.

ISO 4014:2011 specifies the characteristics of hexagon head bolts with threads from M1,6 up to and including M64, of product grade A for threads M1,6 to M24 and nominal lengths up to and including 10d or 150 mm, whichever is the shorter, and product grade B for threads over M24 or nominal lengths over 10d or 150 mm, whichever is the shorter.

ISO 12474:2010 specifies the characteristics of hexagon socket head cap screws with metric fine pitch thread with nominal thread diameters from 8 mm up to 36 mm and product grade A.

ISO 10644:2009 specifies the requirements for metric screw and plain washer assemblies made of steel with coarse thread M2 to M12 inclusive, flat seating heads, property classes up to and including 10.9 and washer hardness classes 200 HV or 300 HV. The plain washers are captive, i.e. prevented from disassembly and free to rotate.

ISO 10673:2009 specifies the characteristics of plain steel washers, small, normal and large series, of product grade A for metric screw and washer assemblies in accordance with ISO 10644.

ISO 16047:2005 specifies the conditions for carrying out torque/clamp force tests on threaded fasteners and related parts. It is applicable, basically, to bolts, screws, studs and nuts made of carbon steel and alloy steel, whose mechanical properties are specified in ISO 898-1, ISO 898-2 or ISO 898-6, having ISO metric threads with thread sizes M3 to M39. It is also applicable to the combination of other externally and internally threaded fasteners with a triangular ISO thread according to ISO 68. It is not applicable to set screws and similar threaded fasteners that are not under tensile stresses, nor to screws which form their own mating thread or threaded fasteners having additional self-locking features.

ISO 4762:2004 specifies the characteristics of hexagon socket head cap screws with coarse pitch thread from M1,6 up to and including M64 and product grade A.

ISO 23429:2004 specifies gauges for hexagon sockets with tolerances as specified in ISO 4759-1.

ISO 4029:2003 specifies the characteristics of hexagon socket set screws with cup point and threads from M1,6 up to and including M24 and of product grade A.

ISO 4028:2003 specifies the characteristics of hexagon socket set screws with dog point and threads from M1,6 up to and including M24 and of product grade A.

ISO 4026:2003 specifies the characteristics of hexagon socket set screws with flat point and threads from M1,6 up to and including M24 and of product grade A.

ISO 4027:2003 specifies the characteristics of hexagon socket set screws with cone point and threads from M1,6 up to and including M24 and of product grade A.

ISO 2342:2003 specifies the characteristics of slotted headless screws with shank with threads from M1 up to and including M10.
