General Information
This part of IEC 61987 defines a generic structure in which product features of industrialprocess measurement and control equipment with analogue or digital output should be arranged, in order to facilitate the understanding of product descriptions when they are transferred from one party to another. It applies to the production of catalogues of process measuring equipment supplied by the manufacturer of the product and helps the user to formulate his requirements. This standard also serves as a reference document for all future standards which are concerned with process measuring equipment catalogues. In addition, it is intended as a guide for the production of further standards on process equipment documentation for similar systems, for example, for other measuring equipment and actuators.

This International Standard describes the physical requirements for the safe operation of the process analyser measuring system installed in an AH in order to ensure its protection against fire, explosion and health hazards. This standard extends beyond IEC 60079-16 to include houses with Zone 2 interiors and to apply to toxic hazards. (Appropriate national guidelines on toxic hazards are to be followed.) This standard does not address facilities where dust is the hazard. Clause 4 addresses the location of the AH and connection within the process plant areas. Clause 5 addresses the design, construction and layout of the AH. It does not address parts of the analyser measuring system installed in other locations such as sample conditioning rooms (SCR) or switchgear rooms. Clause 6 addresses measures for reducing the danger of explosion for AHs while permitting maintenance of equipment with the power on and the case open. Using n-Pentane as an example, the LEL is 1,4 % or 14 000 × 10-6. The level immediately dangerous to life or health (which is the maximum level from which a worker could escape within 30 min without any escape-impairing symptoms or any irreversible health effects) is only 0,5 % or 5 000 × 10-6. Classification of a house interior as Zone 1 may imply that no technician can enter without protective equipment such as breathing gear. Placing an AH in a Zone 1 area would usually imply that no technician could approach the house without wearing protective equipment. Clause 7 addresses those measures for protecting personnel from materials in the atmosphere of AHs that are hazardous to health.

This standard applies to straight thermocouples for the nominal pressure level PN 1, which are made of standardized components (connection head, protection tube and thermocouple(s)). Details regarding the operational areas of the thermocouples and the use of protection tubes are part of this standard. Connection heads as well as stop flanges and threaded bushings for the mounting of the thermocouples are also part of this standard. Special designs are to be agreed upon between manufacturer and user.

This part of IEC 60770 specifies the following methods. Methods for - reviewing the functionality and the degree of intelligence in intelligent transmitters; - testing the operational behaviour, as well as the static and dynamic performance of an intelligent transmitter. Methodologies for - determining the reliability and diagnostic features used to detect malfunctions; - determining the communication capabilities of the intelligent transmitters in a communication network. The methods and methodologies are applicable to intelligent transmitters, which convert one or more physical, chemical or electrical quantities into digital signals for use in a communication network or into analogue electrical signals (as specified in the IEC 60381 series). The methods and methodologies listed in this part of IEC 60770 are intended for use by: - manufacturers to determine the performance of their products and - users or independent testing laboratories to verify equipment performance specifications. Manufacturers of intelligent transmitters are urged to apply this part of IEC 60770 at an early stage of development. This standard is intended to provide guidance for designing evaluations of intelligent transmitters by providing: - a checklist for reviewing the hardware and software design in a structured way; - test methods for measuring and qualifying the performance, dependability and operability under various environmental and operational conditions; - methods for reporting the data obtained.

This part of IEC 60534 specifies the requirements for the inspection and routine testing of control valves manufactured in conformity with the other parts of IEC 60534. This standard is applicable to valves with pressure ratings not exceeding Class 2500. The requirements for actuators apply only to pneumatic actuators. This standard does not apply to the types of control valves where radioactive service, fire safety testing, or other hazardous service conditions are encountered. If a standard for hazardous service conflicts with the requirements of this standard, the standard for hazardous service should take precedence.

This part of IEC 60534-8 defines equipment, methods, and procedures for obtaining laboratory measurements of sound pressure levels radiated by control valves and/or associated piping configurations, including fixed restrictions, through which compressible fluids are passing. Control valves discharging to atmosphere are excluded from this standard. Method A is a uniform method of measuring the radiated noise from the valve and associated test piping and allows a comparison of various measuring results which is beneficial for both user and manufacturer. The noise criteria are expressed by determining the sound pressure level of the valve under consideration. Method B is a procedure for measuring the sound pressure levels within pipe systems upstream and downstream of the valve under fixed operating conditions. Since inaccuracies due to the pipe transmission are eliminated, this method is preferred for evaluation of the acoustical characteristic of valves. The noise characteristics to be determined are useful for the following reasons: a) to compare the performance of different valves; b) to plan measures for noise abatement; c) to determine acoustical characteristics of valves and valve assemblies; d) to enable proper sizing of sound absorbers; e) to determine possible adverse effects on ultra-sonic flow meter measurements.

IEC 61514:2000 specifies tests designed to determine the static and dynamic performance of single-acting or double-acting valve positioners. The tests may be applied to positioners which receive standard analogue input signals (as specified in IEC 60381 and IEC 60382) and have a pneumatic output. NOTE For positioners with pulsed or digital input signals, equivalent criteria may be applied. The methods described may not fully apply to positioners with digital controllers or positioners with pulsed outputs. Testing may be conducted either on a positioner alone, independently of an actuator, or on a positioner mounted and connected to a specific actuator, as a combined unit. The text makes clear where different approaches are required. The methods of evaluation given in this standard are intended for use by manufacturers to determine the performance of their products, and by users, or independent testing establishments, to verify manufacturers' performance specifications. This publication is to be read in conjunction with IEC 61514-2:2013.

In addition to the requirements of IEC 61326-1, this part of IEC 61326 specifies more detailed test configurations, operational conditions and performance criteria for transducers with integrated or remote signal conditioning. This standard applies only to transducers characterized by their ability to transform, with the aid of an auxiliary energy source, a non-electric quantity to a process-relevant electrical signal, and to output the signal at one or more ports. This standard includes transducers for electrochemical and biological measured quantities. The transducers covered by this standard may be powered by a.c. or d.c. voltage and/or by battery or with internal power supply. Transducers referred to by this standard comprise at least the following items (see Figures 101 and 102): - one or more elements for transforming a non-electrical input quantity to an electrical quantity; - a transmission link for transferral of the electrical quantity to a component for signal conditioning; - a unit for signal conditioning that converts the electrical quantity to a process-relevant electrical signal; - an enclosure for enclosing the above-stated components fully or in parts. Transducers referred to by this standard may also have the following items (see Figures 101 and 102): - a communication and control unit; - a display unit; - control elements such as keys, buttons, switches, etc.; - transducer output signals (for example, switch outputs, alarm outputs) which are clearly assigned to the input signal(s); - transducers with signal conditioning which may be integrated or remote. The manufacturer specifies the environment for which the product is intended to be used and utilizes the corresponding test levels of IEC 61326-1. Additional requirements and exceptions for specific types of transducers are given in the annexes to this standard.
