Foodstuffs - Detection of irradiated food containing bone - Method by ESR spectroscopy

This draft European Standard specifies a method for the detection of meat containing bone and fish containing bone which have been treated with ionizing radiation, by analysing the electron spin resonance (ESR) spectrum or electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectrum of the bones. On the basis of results of analysis of meat containing bone from duck, frog, goose, chicken, hare, lamb, turkey, beef and pork, it is assumed that the same signals occur when other animal species are analysed.

Dieser europäische Norm-Entwurf legt ein Verfahren zur Identifizierung von mit ionisierender Strahlung behandeltem knochenhaltigem Fleisch und grätenhaltigem Fisch fest. In diesem Verfahren wird das ESR- (Elektrospinresonanz) oder EPR- (Elektronen Paramagnetische Resonanz) Spektrum des Knochens bzw. der Gräte analysiert. Auf der Grundlage der Ergebnisse von Untersuchungen an Knochen von Ente, Frosch, Gans, Huhn, Hase, Lamm, Pute, Rind und Schwein kann angenommen werden, daß dieselben Signale auftreten, wenn andere Tierarten analysiert werden.

Ce projet de norme européenne définit une méthode permettant la détection des viandes contenant des os et des poissons contenant des arêtes qui ont été traités par rayonnement ionisants, par analyse du spectre de Résonance Paramagnétique Electronique (RPE) ou de Résonance Electronique de Spin (RES) des os et arêtes. Sur la base des résultats des analyses effectuées sur des os de viande de canard, grenouille, oie, poulet, lapin, agneau, dinde, boeuf et de porc, il est possible de conclure que les mêmes signaux sont présents lors de l'analyse de n'importe quelle autre espèce animale.

This European Standard specifies hygiene requirements which establish prerequisites for production of hot beverages, such as coffee and coffee specialities, tea, cocoa and dairy beverages from hot beverage appliances for commercial and household use in conformity with the food hygiene regulations and for placing on the market. Appliances for self-service are within the scope of this standard.
For this purpose, this standard specifies general hygienic requirements for the construction, material and operation of the appliances concerned. It contains, in particular, requirements for hygienic and professional operation, for cleaning, disinfection and descaling as well as requirements for a migration test.
This European Standard applies to appliances before their entering on the market (new machines) and it also gives an informative Annex for appliances already in use (see Annex A).
This European Standard does not deal with any requirements relevant to work safety. This European Standard deals neither with electrical safety nor with performance requirements. EN 60335 2 15 and EN 60335 2 75 are used for commercially used appliances. Methods for measuring the performance of electric household coffee makers are provided in EN 60661.

This document specifies a method for the taxonomic identification of a single bivalve or piece of bivalve to the genus or species level using DNA barcoding. It allows the identification of a large number of commercially important bivalve species.
This method was validated on raw mussels. Laboratory experience indicates additional applicability to processed bivalve products, e.g. cold smoked, hot smoked, salted, frozen, cooked, fried, and deep-fried samples.
The described method is usually unsuitable for the analysis of highly processed foods, e.g. tins of mussels, with highly degraded DNA where the fragment lengths are not sufficient for amplification of the target. Furthermore, it is not applicable for complex seafood products containing mixtures of two or more bivalve species.
The identification of bivalve species is carried out by PCR amplification of a segment of the mitochondrial 16S rRNA gene, followed by sequencing of the PCR productsand subsequent sequence comparison with entries in databases.

For ISO 17871, these requirements are only applicable to quick-release cylinder valves types B, C, D and E.
NOTE 1        If the pressure regulating system of a VIPR is acting as the primary valve operating mechanism, it is covered by the relevant closure standard, e.g. ISO 10297, ISO 17871, ISO 17879 and ISO 23826. This also includes designs where closure of the primary valve operating mechanism of a VIPR is obtained by closing the seat of the pressure regulating system.
NOTE 2        If the primary valve operating mechanism of a VIPR is located at the low-pressure side of the pressure regulating system, it is covered by the relevant closure standard, e.g. ISO 10297, ISO 17871, ISO 17879 and ISO 23826.
