Fuels - Identification of vehicle compatibility - Graphical expression for consumer information

This European Standard lays down harmonized identifiers for marketed liquid and gaseous fuels. The requirements in this standard are set to complement information needs of users regarding the fuel- and vehicle-compatibility that are placed on the market. The development of this standard focused on vehicles placed on the market for the first time, which does not preclude the application of this standard also to vehicles already in circulation. The identifier is intended to be visualized at dispensers and refuelling points, on vehicles, in motor vehicle dealerships and in consumer manuals as described in this document.
Marketed fuels include for example petroleum-derived fuels, synthetic fuels, biofuels, natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas, hydrogen and biogas and blends of the aforementioned delivered to non-stationary applications.

Overview

EN 16942:2016/FprA1 (CEN) specifies harmonized, graphical identifiers to communicate vehicle–fuel compatibility to consumers. The standard defines visual pump and vehicle labels for marketed liquid and gaseous fuels (petroleum-derived fuels, synthetic fuels, biofuels, natural gas, LPG, hydrogen, biogas and blends) so users can quickly determine which fuels are compatible with a given vehicle. Labels are intended for dispensers, refuelling points, vehicles, dealers and owner manuals.

This document (EN 16942:2016/prA1:2019) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 441
“Fuel labelling”, the secretariat of which is held by NEN.
This document is currently submitted to the CEN Enquiry.
This amendment introduces further clarification towards interpretation and application of the labels that
have come forward from effective implementation in 2018 of the document. Next, alignment with some
of the recently revised fuels specification standards was required.

After the second paragraph add the following NOTE: "NOTE For the purposes of this document, the
