EN 12875-1:2005 is the CEN reference test method for assessing the mechanical dishwashing resistance of domestic utensils. It specifies a standardized procedure to expose unused articles made of ceramic, glass, glass-ceramic, vitreous enamel, metal and plastics to the combined chemical, thermal and mechanical stresses of a domestic dishwasher. This part is a reference method for domestic dishwashing only and does not prescribe the number of cycles a product must withstand - results are intended for comparison and indication of resistance under defined test conditions.

- Cycles and inspection: subject to at least 125 cycles then multiples of 250; visual inspection under controlled lighting; removable deposits may be removed (e.g., 1 min dip in 10% citric acid at ~50 °C) before evaluation.
