Ergonomics - Accessible design - Auditory signals for consumer products (ISO 24500:2010)

ISO 24500:2010 specifies the auditory signals used as a means of feedback for operations or conditions of consumer products when used by a person with or without visual or auditory impairment. It is intended to be applied as appropriate to such products depending on the product type and its conditions of use.
It is applicable to auditory signals of a fixed frequency used in general applications (also called “beep sounds”), but not to variable frequency or melodic sounds.
It does not specify fire or gas leak alarm sounds or crime prevention alarm sounds (determined by other laws and regulations), electronic chimes, voice guides or other sounds particular to communication instruments such as telephones; nor is it applicable to auditory danger signals for public or work areas (covered in ISO 7731, ISO 8201, and ISO 11429).
It is not applicable to machines and equipment used for professional work; nor does it specify the sound pressure levels of auditory signals from the consumer products (for the determination of these levels, taking into consideration accessible design, see ISO 24501).

Ergonomie - Zugängliche Gestaltung - Akustische Signale für Konsumgüter (ISO 24500:2010)

Diese Internationale Norm legt akustische Signale fest, die als Rückmeldung der Betätigung oder der Zustände von Konsumgütern verwendet werden, wenn sie von einem Anwender mit oder ohne Seh- oder Hörbehinderung benutzt werden.
Sie gilt für akustische Signale mit fester Frequenz, die in allgemeinen Anwendungen benutzt werden (auch Pieptöne genannt), aber nicht für melodische Töne oder Töne mit veränderlichen Frequenzen.
Sie legt keine Signaltöne von Alarmanlagen für Feuer, Gasaustritt oder Überfall (die durch andere Gesetze und Richtlinien geregelt sind) fest, ebenso keine elektronischen Glockenklänge, gesprochenen Anleitungen und andere Klänge, die besonders zur Bedienung von Geräten wie Telefonen benutzt werden. Sie ist nicht auf akustische Gefahrensignale für öffentliche Bereiche oder Arbeitsstätten anwendbar, die in ISO 7731, ISO 8201, und ISO 11429 behandelt werden.
Sie gilt nicht für Maschinen und Einrichtungen, die für fachmännisches Arbeiten genutzt werden. Sie legt keinen Schalldruckpegel für akustische Signale von Konsumgütern fest.

Ergonomie - Conception accessible - Signaux auditifs pour produits de consommation courante (ISO 24500:2010)

L'ISO 24500:2010 spécifie les signaux auditifs qui sont utilisés comme moyen de retour d'information attestant le fonctionnement ou l'état des produits de consommation courante, lorsqu'un utilisateur ayant ou non une déficience visuelle ou auditive se sert d'eux. Elle est censée être appliquée à ces produits, de manière appropriée selon leur type et leurs conditions d'utilisation.
Elle est applicable aux signaux auditifs à fréquence fixe utilisés dans le cadre d'applications générales (également appelés «bips»), mais pas aux sons de fréquence variable ni aux sons mélodiques.
Elle ne spécifie pas les sons des alarmes incendie ou des alarmes pour fuites de gaz ni les sons des alarmes de prévention de la délinquance (déterminés par d'autres lois et réglementations), ni les sonneries électroniques, guides vocaux ou autres sons propres aux instruments de communication, tels que les téléphones. Ta mednarodni standard določa zvočne signale, ki se uporabljajo kot sredstvo za povratne informacije za funkcije ali pogoje proizvodov, namenjenih potrošnikom, kadar jih uporablja oseba z ali brez okvare vida ali sluha. Njegov namen je, da se primerno uporabi za takšne proizvode, odvisno od vrste proizvoda ter njegovih pogojev uporabe. Velja za zvočne signale s fiksno frekvenco za splošno uporabo (imenovane tudi »piskajoči zvoki«), vendar ne s spremenljivo frekvenco ali melodične zvoke.

The text of ISO 24500:2010 has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 159 “Ergonomics” of the
International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and has been taken over as EN ISO 24500:2010 by
Technical Committee CEN/TC 122 “Ergonomics” the secretariat of which is held by DIN.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an identical
text or by endorsement, at the latest by April 2011, and conflicting national standards shall be withdrawn at the
latest by April 2011.
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of patent
rights. CEN [and/or CENELEC] shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights.
According to the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations, the national standards organizations of the following

This document specifies ergonomic requirements and recommendations for consumer product spoken instructions that are provided to guide users in the operation of a product and/or as a means of providing feedback to users about the status/state of a product. Such instructions can be used by persons with or without visual impairments, and are useful for users who have difficulty reading and/or cognitive impairments.
The applicability of the requirements and recommendations described in this document does not depend on the language of the instructions or whether the instructions are provided via recorded human speech or synthesized speech from text.
The requirements and recommendations in this document are applicable to conventional, stand-alone consumer products in general, whose function is limited by characteristics that prevent a user from attaching, installing or using assistive technology in order to use the product. They are not applicable to machines and equipment used for professional work.
This document does not apply to products for which the instructional content and/or the means of presentation are specified in other standards (e.g. medical devices, fire alarms). It also does not provide recommendations or requirements for spoken instructions of Interactive Voice Response (IVR) systems or digital assistants on personal computers or similar devices.
NOTE    ISO 9241‑154 provides recommendations or requirements for IVR systems.

ISO 24501:2010 specifies methods for determining the sound pressure level range of auditory signals so that the users of consumer products, including people with age-related hearing loss, can hear the signal properly in the presence of interfering sounds.
Auditory signals, in ISO 24501:2010, refer to sounds with a fixed frequency (also called beep sounds) and do not include variable frequency sounds, melodic sounds, or voice guides.
ISO 24501:2010 is applicable to auditory signals which are heard at an approximate maximum distance of 4 m from the product, as long as no physical barrier exists between the product and the user. It is not applicable to auditory signals heard through a head receiver or earphones, or to those heard with the ear located very near to the sound source because of the interference of the head with sound propagation.
ISO 24501:2010 does not specify the sound pressure level of auditory signals regulated by other statutes, such as those for fire alarms, gas leakages and crime prevention, nor does it specify auditory signals particular to a communication tool such as telephones.

This document specifies design, type test methods, marking and instruction requirements for cylinder valves with integrated pressure regulators (VIPRs) intended to be fitted to gas cylinders, pressure drums or tubes or used as a main valve for bundles of cylinders that convey compressed, liquefied or dissolved gases.
These are requirements for VIPRs that are in addition to those given in the relevant closure standard, for example, in ISO 10297 for cylinder valves, in ISO 17871 for quick-release cylinder valves, in ISO 17879 for self-closing cylinder valves or in ISO 23826 for ball valves. For ISO 17871, these requirements are only applicable to quick-release cylinder valves types B, C, D and E.
NOTE 1        If the pressure regulating system of a VIPR is acting as the primary valve operating mechanism, it is covered by the relevant closure standard, e.g. ISO 10297, ISO 17871, ISO 17879 and ISO 23826. This also includes designs where closure of the primary valve operating mechanism of a VIPR is obtained by closing the seat of the pressure regulating system.
NOTE 2        If the primary valve operating mechanism of a VIPR is located at the low-pressure side of the pressure regulating system, it is covered by the relevant closure standard, e.g. ISO 10297, ISO 17871, ISO 17879 and ISO 23826.
NOTE 3        The term “pressure receptacle” is used within this document to cover instances where no differentiation is necessary between gas cylinders, bundles of cylinders, pressure drums and tubes.
This document does not apply to VIPRs for
a)       medical applications (see ISO 10524-3);
b)       liquefied petroleum gas (LPG);
c)        cryogenic applications.
NOTE 4        Additional requirements for a VIPR with a residual pressure device (RPD) are specified in ISO 15996.
