Aggregates for railway ballast - Part 1: Characteristics

This document specifies the characteristics of aggregates for use in the construction of the upper layer (superstructure) of railway track.
With regard to the material source and production process, this document covers natural aggregate (see 3.1.3), manufactured aggregate (see 3.1.4), recycled aggregates (see 3.1.5), and mixtures of these materials.
Aggregates covered in this document are railway ballast (see 3.1.2).
Railway ballast refers to aggregates where 100 % of the surface of the particles can be described as totally crushed (see 3.1.2) and that are obtained by processing natural, manufactured materials or recycled crushed unbound aggregates.
Aggregates covered in this document are coarse aggregates (see 3.1.10).
Railway ballast resulting of previously used railway ballast on site and without putting it on the market (reused railway ballast) is not covered by this document.
This document does not cover:
—   natural and manufactured aggregates, having oven-dried particle density less than or equal to 2,00 Mg/m3, as they are already specified in prEN 13055:2021,
—   recycled aggregates, with particle densities less than 1,50 Mg/m3,
—   aggregates with a nominal upper size greater than 90 mm,
—   armourstone, as this is specified in prEN 13383-1:2021,
—   aggregates for construction works, as these are specified in prEN17555-1:2021,
—   use of aggregates contained within reclaimed bituminous mixtures, as the reclaimed asphalt for use as a constituent of bituminous mixtures is already specified in EN 13108 8:2016,
—   use of aggregates as soil,
—   use of aggregates in earthworks, as these are specified in EN 16907:2018, Parts 1 to 6.

Gesteinskörnungen für Gleisschotter - Teil 1: Produktstandard

Dieses Dokument legt die Eigenschaften von Gesteinskörnungen für die Verwendung beim Bau der oberen Schicht (Oberbau) von Bahnkörpern fest.
Bezüglich des Ursprungs und Herstellungsverfahrens des Materials deckt dieses Dokument natürliche Gesteinskörnung (siehe 3.1.3), industriell hergestellte Gesteinskörnung (siehe 3.1.4), rezyklierte Gesteins¬körnungen (siehe 3.1.5) und Gemische dieser Materialien ab.
Bei den in diesem Dokument abgedeckten Gesteinskörnungen handelt es sich um Gleisschotter (siehe 3.1.2).
Gleisschotter bezieht sich auf Gesteinskörnungen, bei denen 100 % der Kornoberflächen als vollständig gebrochen (siehe 3.1.2) beschrieben werden können und die durch die Verarbeitung natürlicher oder industriell hergestellter Materialien oder gebrochener ungebundener rezyklierter Gesteinskörnungen gewonnen werden.
Bei den in diesem Dokument abgedeckten Gesteinskörnungen handelt es sich um grobe Gesteinskörnungen (siehe 3.1.10).
Gleisschotter, der aus an der Baustelle vorher verwendetem Gleisschotter stammt und nicht in Verkehr gebracht wurde (wiederverwendeter Gleisschotter), ist nicht Gegenstand dieses Dokuments.
Dieses Dokument deckt Folgendes nicht ab:
—   natürliche und industriell hergestellte Gesteinskörnungen mit einer Rohdichte auf ofentrockener Basis kleiner oder gleich 2,00 Mg/m3, wie bereits in prEN 13055:2021 festgelegt;
—   rezyklierte Gesteinskörnungen mit Rohdichten kleiner als 1,50 Mg/m3;
—   Gesteinskörnungen mit einem oberen Nennwert der Korngröße größer als 90 mm;
—   Wasserbausteine, wie in prEN 13383 1:2021 festgelegt;
—   Gesteinskörnungen für Bauwerke, wie in prEN 17555 1:2021 festgelegt;
—   Verwendung von Gesteinskörnungen in Ausbauasphaltmischgut, wie für Ausbauasphalt zur Verwendung als Bestandteil von Asphaltmischgut bereits in EN 13108 8:2016 festgelegt ist;
—   Verwendung von Gesteinskörnungen als Boden;
—   Verwendung von Gesteinskörnungen in Erdbauwerken, wie in EN 16907:2018, Teil 1 bis Teil 6, festgelegt.

Granulats pour ballasts de voies ferrées - Partie 1: Caractéristiques

Le présent document spécifie les caractéristiques des granulats destinés à être utilisés dans la construction de la couche supérieure (superstructure) des voies ferrées.
S’agissant de l’origine des matériaux et du processus de production, le présent document couvre les granulats naturels (voir 3.1.3), les granulats artificiels (voir 3.1.4), les granulats recyclés (voir 3.1.5), et les mélanges réalisés à partir de ces matériaux.
Les granulats couverts dans ce document sont le ballast de voie ferrée (voir 3.1.2).
Le ballast de voie ferrée désigne les granulats pour lesquels 100 % de la surface des grains peut être décrite comme étant entièrement concassée (voir 3.1.2) et qui sont obtenus par traitement de granulats concassés naturels, artificiels ou recyclés.
Les granulats couverts dans ce document sont les gravillons (voir 3.1.10).
Le ballast de voie ferrée obtenu à partir de ballast de voie ferrée ayant déjà été utilisé sur site et n’ayant pas été commercialisé (ballast de voie ferrée réutilisé) n’est pas couvert dans ce document.
Ce document ne couvre pas les aspects suivants :
—   les granulats naturels et artificiels dont la masse volumique réelle après séchage est inférieure ou égale à 2,00 Mg/m3, qui sont déjà spécifiés dans le projet de norme prEN 13055:2021,
—   les granulats recyclés dont la masse volumique réelle est inférieure à 1,50 Mg/m3,
—   les granulats dont la dimension maximale nominale est supérieure à 90 mm,
—   les enrochements, qui sont déjà spécifiés dans le projet de norme prEN 13383-1:2021,
—   les granulats pour travaux de construction, qui sont déjà spécifiés dans le projet de norme prEN17555-1:2021,
—   l’utilisation de granulats présents dans les mélanges hydrocarbonés de réemploi, l’asphalte de réemploi utilisé comme constituant des mélanges hydrocarbonés étant déjà spécifié dans l’EN 13108 8:2016,
—   l’utilisation de granulats comme sol,
—   l’utilisation de granulats dans les terrassements, qui sont déjà spécifiés dans l’EN 16907:2018, Parties 1 à 6.

This document (prEN 13450-1:2021) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 154
“Aggregates”, the secretariat of which is held by BSI.
This document is currently submitted to the CEN Enquiry.
This document will supersede EN 13450:2002 and EN 13450:2002/AC:2004.
The most significant technical changes compared to EN 13450:2002 include:
a) Complete structural and editorial revision;
b) Harmonization of vocabulary and Annex ZA to be consistent with Regulation (EU) 305/2011 on
construction products (CPR);
c) Improvement of the consistency with the aggregate standard EN 17555-1;
d) Unification of definitions which were common across aggregate standard EN 17555-1;
e) Updating and improving references to supporting test methods;
a) Modification of the definition of “recycled railway ballast”;
f) Modification of classes for grading;
g) Modification of Tables 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, due to changes in the class names and due to the
introduction of new classes for flakiness index, percentage of crushed particles, Los Angeles
coefficient, resistance to impact and micro Deval coefficient;
h) Addition of new Clauses 4.1.2.4 “Percentage of crushed particles”, 4.5.4 “Freeze-thaw resistance”;
i) Addition of new Tables 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15;
j) Revision of Clause 4.5.5 “Sonnenbrand”;
k) Removal of clauses referring to dangerous substances;
