ISO 12219-4:2013 specifies a qualitative and quantitative analytical method for vapour-phase organic compounds (volatile and some semi-volatile) released from car trim materials under simulated real use conditions using small emission test chambers (small chamber). Small chambers are intended to provide a transfer function to vehicle level emissions. This method is intended for evaluating new car interior trim components but can, in principle, be applied to used car components. Target compounds include VOCs (conventionally defined as organic compounds in the volatility range n-hexane to n-hexadecane) and volatile carbonyl compounds such as formaldehyde. The specified analytical procedure for VOCs is ISO 16000‑6 and for formaldehyde and some other light carbonyl compounds is ISO 16000‑3. ISO 12219-4:2013 is complementary to ASTM D5116 and VDA 276, and provides third party test laboratories and manufacturing industry with an approach for: a) identifying the effect of real use conditions on specific VOC emissions data; b) comparing emissions from various assemblies with regards to specific VOC emissions; c) evaluating and sorting specific assemblies regarding specific VOC emissions data; d) providing specific VOC emissions data to develop and verify a correlation between material level methods and the vehicle level method; e) evaluating prototype, "low-emission" assemblies during development.

L'ISO 12219-4:2013 spécifie une méthode d'analyse qualitative et quantitative des composés organiques en phase vapeur (volatils et certains semi-volatils) émis par les matériaux des habillages intérieurs de véhicules dans des conditions d'utilisation réelle simulées, en utilisant une petite chambre d'essai d'émissions (petite chambre). La petite chambre est destinée à assurer une fonction de transfert aux émissions orientées véhicule. Cette méthode sert à évaluer les nouveaux matériaux des habillages intérieurs de véhicules mais peut, en principe, être appliquée aux matériaux de véhicules usagés. Les composés cibles comprennent les COV (appelés, par convention, composés organiques dans la gamme de volatilité du n-hexane au n-hexadécane) et les composés carbonylés volatils tels que le formaldéhyde. Le mode opératoire d'analyse spécifié pour les COV est l'ISO 16000-6 et, pour le formaldéhyde et certains autres composés carbonylés légers, l'ISO 16000-3. L'ISO 12219-4:2013 complète les normes ASTM D5116 et VDA 276 et fournit aux laboratoires d'essai tiers et au secteur industriel une méthode pour: a) identifier l'effet des conditions d'utilisation réelle sur les données d'émissions de COV spécifiques; b) comparer les émissions de COV spécifiques de différents ensembles; c) évaluer et trier les données d'émissions de COV spécifiques des ensembles; d) fournir des données d'émissions de COV spécifiques pour établir et vérifier une corrélation entre la méthode orientée matériau et la méthode orientée véhicule; et e) évaluer les ensembles prototypes de «faibles émissions» pendant le développement.

Ta del standarda ISO 12219 določa kvalitativno in kvantitativno analitično metodo za določevanje emisij organskih spojin v parni fazi (hlapne ali polhlapne) iz sestavnih delov v notranjosti vozila v simuliranih pogojih dejanske uporabe z majhnimi emisijskimi preskusnimi komorami (majhne komore). Namen majhnih komor je zagotavljanje funkcije prenosa za stopnje emisije vozil. Ta metoda je namenjena za vrednotenje novih sestavnih delov v notranjosti vozila, vendar jo je načeloma mogoče uporabiti tudi za rabljene avtomobilske dele. Med ciljne spojine spadajo hlapne organske spojine (po dogovoru opredeljene kot organske spojine v območju hlapnosti n-heksana do n-heksadekana) in hlapne karbonilne spojine, kot je formaldehid. Analizni postopek za hlapne organske spojine je določen v standardu ISO 16000-6, za formaldehid in nekatere druge lahke karbonilne spojine pa v standardu ISO 16000-3.
