(informative)

Relationship between this European standard and the safety objectives of
Directive 2014/35/EU [2014 OJ L96] aimed to be covered
This European Standard has been prepared under a Commission’s standardization request relating to
harmonized standards in the field of the Low Voltage Directive, M/511, to provide one voluntary means
of conforming to safety objectives of Directive 2014/35/EU of the European Parliament and of the
Council of 26 February 2014 on the harmonization of the laws of the Member States relating to the
making available on the market of electrical equipment designed for use within certain voltage limits
[2014 OJ L96].
Once this standard is cited in the Official Journal of the European Union under that Directive,
compliance with the normative clauses of this standard given in Table ZZ.1 confers, within the limits of
the scope of this standard, a presumption of conformity with the corresponding safety objectives of
that Directive, and associated EFTA regulations.

NOTE FROM TC/SC OFFICERS:
After the decision not to withdraw the publication it will be revised to incorporate the changes brought
about by the Amendment 1 to IC 61010-1. The task is only to align IEC 61010-2-081:2015 with IEC
61010-1:2010 and its amendment 1:2016. A revision this soon is justified by the large number of
significant changes introduced by this amendment 1. With this revision IEC 61010-2-081 will be in line
with the latest requirements of IEC 61010-1 + A1. Establishment of a new edition is for better
readability instead of amending edition 2.

30 SAFETY REQUIREMENTS FOR ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT FOR
31 MEASUREMENT, CONTROL, AND LABORATORY USE –
32
33 Part 2-081: Particular requirements for automatic and
34 semi-automatic laboratory equipment for analysis and other purposes
35
36 FOREWORD
37 1) The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is a worldwide organization for standardization comprising
38 all national electrotechnical committees (IEC National Committees). The object of IEC is to promote
39 international co-operation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. To
40 this end and in addition to other activities, IEC publishes International Standards, Technical Specifications,
41 Technical Reports, Publicly Available Specifications (PAS) and Guides (hereafter referred to as “IEC
42 Publication(s)”). Their preparation is entrusted to technical committees; any IEC National Committee interested
43 in the subject dealt with may participate in this preparatory work. International, governmental and non-
44 governmental organizations liaising with the IEC also participate in this preparation. IEC collaborates closely
45 with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in accordance with conditions determined by
46 agreement between the two organizations.
47 2) The formal decisions or agreements of IEC on technical matters express, as nearly as possible, an international
48 consensus of opinion on the relevant subjects since each technical committee has representation from all
49 interested IEC National Committees.
50 3) IEC Publications have the form of recommendations for international use and are accepted by IEC National
51 Committees in that sense. While all reasonable efforts are made to ensure that the technical content of IEC
52 Publications is accurate, IEC cannot be held responsible for the way in which they are used or for any
53 misinterpretation by any end user.
54 4) In order to promote international uniformity, IEC National Committees undertake to apply IEC Publications
55 transparently to the maximum extent possible in their national and regional publications. Any divergence
56 between any IEC Publication and the corresponding national or regional publication shall be clearly indicated in
57 the latter.
58 5) IEC itself does not provide any attestation of conformity. Independent certification bodies provide conformity
59 assessment services and, in some areas, access to IEC marks of conformity. IEC is not responsible for any
60 services carried out by independent certification bodies.
61 6) All users should ensure that they have the latest edition of this publication.
62 7) No liability shall attach to IEC or its directors, employees, servants or agents including individual experts and
63 members of its technical committees and IEC National Committees for any personal injury, property damage or
64 other damage of any nature whatsoever, whether direct or indirect, or for costs (including legal fees) and
65 expenses arising out of the publication, use of, or reliance upon, this IEC Publication or any other IEC
66 Publications.
67 8) Attention is drawn to the Normative references cited in this publication. Use of the referenced publications is
68 indispensable for the correct application of this publication.
69 9) Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this IEC Publication may be the subject of
70 patent rights. IEC shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights.
