Overview

EN 13277-4:2001/A1:2007 is a CEN amendment updating Part 4 of the European standard series for protective equipment for martial arts. It specifies additional requirements and test methods for head protectors, refining the definition and testing of the protective zone, test positioning and manufacturer information. This amendment modifies clauses 4.7, 5.6, 5.7.2 and Clause 7 of the base standard to clarify dimensional and marking requirements for headgear safety and conformity testing.

  • Points A, B, C and D must be marked in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and the amended Figure 2.
  • To mark the zone of protection the head protector may be flattened (and, if necessary, cut) so the protective zone lies flat; it must not be cut into several parts. Lines AC and BD mark zone limits.
• Test positions and methods (clause 5.7.2)
  • Tests must include positions where worst results are likely. At minimum, select one test position each in the forehead, back of head, and side of head regions.
• Manufacturer information (Clause 7)
  • The information supplied shall comply with Clause 7 of EN 13277-1:2000, including correct positioning guidance and identification of the protection zone relative to the outer head protector dimensions.
