This document (EN ISO 15296:2018) has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 44 “Welding
and allied processes” in collaboration with Technical Committee CEN/TC 121 “Welding and allied
processes” the secretariat of which is held by DIN.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an
identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by July 2018, and conflicting national standards shall be
withdrawn at the latest by July 2018.
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of
patent rights. CEN shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights.
This document supersedes EN 13622:2002.

Foreword
ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards

Subcommittee SC 8, Equipment for gas welding, cutting and allied processes.
This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition (ISO 15296:2004), which has been technically
revised and contains the following changes:
— the title has been simplified;
— the definitions of terms 3.1.1, 3.1.4, 3.3.7, 3.4.1, 3.4.3 and 3.4.6 (formerly numbered 2.1.1, 2.1.4,
2.3.7, 2.4.1, 2.4.3 and 2.4.6) have been modified;
— the list of symbols has been incorporated into the alphabetical index;
— the revised edition has been aligned with the 7th edition (2016) of the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 2,
Principles and rules for the structure and drafting of ISO and IEC documents.

Introduction
This document is intended to improve the understanding across major language boundaries of the
terms commonly used in the gas welding equipment industry.
A purpose of the document is to facilitate the drafting or revision of new or existing standards.
It is a compilation of the terms, with their respective definitions, most frequently encountered in the
various European and International Standards or in the professional, technical or commercial literature.
Some definitions have become more precise over time and certain terms have evolved through daily
practice.
This compilation incorporates the recent evolution of their use in the gas welding equipment industry.

Le présent document est destiné à améliorer la compréhension, par-delà des principales frontières
linguistiques, des termes couramment utilisés dans l’industrie du matériel de soudage aux gaz.
Le but de ce document est de faciliter la rédaction ou la révision de normes nouvelles ou existantes.
Il s’agit d’une compilation des termes, avec les définitions correspondantes, les plus fréquemment
rencontrés dans les normes européennes et les Normes internationales ou dans la littérature
professionnelle, technique ou commerciale.
Avec le temps, certaines définitions gagnent en précision et certains termes ont évolué sous l'influence

Dieses Dokument dient dazu, das Verständnis über die wichtigsten sprachlichen Abgrenzungen der
Begriffe, welche häufig in der Gasschweißgeräte-Industrie verwendet werden, zu verbessern.
Der Zweck des Dokumentes ist es, das Entwerfen und Überarbeiten neuer und vorhandener Normen zu
erleichtern.
Es ist eine Zusammenstellung der Begriffe, mit ihren jeweiligen Definitionen, die am häufigsten in
den verschiedenen veröffentlichten EN oder ISO-Normen oder in der fachlichen, technischen oder
kommerziellen Literatur verwendet werden.
Einige Definitionen wurden mit der Zeit immer präziser und bestimmte Begriffe wurden durch die
tägliche Praxis weiterentwickelt.
Diese Zusammenstellung gibt die jüngste Entwicklung der Verwendung der in der Gasschweißgeräte-
