This part of EN 60947 states the requirements for proximity devices with analogue output. They may consist of one or more parts. The requirements of EN 60947-5-2 (proximity switches) apply with the additions or modifications as stated in this standard. The clause numbering in this standard follows the clause numbering of EN 60947-5-2, modified where necessary.

Overview

EN 60947-5-7:2003 (CLC / IEC 60947-5-7) is a European adoption of the IEC standard that sets requirements for proximity devices with analogue output used in low-voltage switchgear and controlgear. This part modifies and extends the proximity switch requirements in EN/IEC 60947-5-2 to address continuous analogue signals (voltage or current) and their measurement, performance and product information.

• Testing & verification:
  • Measurement method requires mounting per manufacturer instructions, at least five equidistant test points across the distance range, and three full traverses in each direction.
  • Errors are calculated as percentage of the upper distance; results include average upscale, average downscale and average error; error curves and tabulations are specified (example procedures in Annex G).
  • Includes verification of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) where applicable.
• Product information requirements: identification, output type and range, distance range, ripple content, distance/output characteristic, and recovery time must be documented.

The object of the IEC is to promoteinternational co-operation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. Tothis end and in addition to other activities, the IEC publishes International Standards.
