ISO/TC 8/SC 7 - Inland navigation vessels

This document specifies terms and definitions relating to dredgers, with the aim of giving clear enough definitions for every term for them to be understood by all specialists. This document is applicable only to equipment which is used for the construction and maintenance of navigable waterways and the extraction of soil. The terms specified in this document are intended to be used in documentation of all kinds. Certain standardized terms are also given with their abridged version; these can be used in cases where no possibility of misinterpretation can arise. A combination of terms is allowed in application.

This document specifies dimensions and safety requirements for manually operated and power-operated coupling devices used for assembling inland navigation vessels as push tows or for coupling vessels alongside by means of rope connections. The coupling device secures the stable positioning of the coupled vessels. Safety requirements to protect operators from accidents during the creation, operation, and separation of the rope connections of push tows and vessels coupled alongside are specified in this document. It also gives rules for designation and testing.

ISO 8385:2018 provides a single classification for all types of dredgers designed for loosening, raising, transporting and disposing of dredged material.

ISO 18421:2016 specifies the construction and dimensions of housing for lifebuoys. The housing serves to encase a lifebuoy to protect it against deterioration from the elements and against vandalism.

ISO 7236:2014 applies to mounting attachments for demountable masts with an integral mast lower part for the placing of lights on push barges. It specifies construction, dimensions, manufacture, arrangement, and means of attachment.

ISO 18422:2014 specifies a plate with instructions for rescue, resuscitation and first aid of drowning persons. This plate is intended for use - on inland navigation vessels; - at suitable places on the shore of inland waterways, e.g. harbours, berths, locks, sluices, etc.; - at other suitable places.

Specifies the dimensions and design of watertight and oiltight hand-holes for inland vessels.

Specifies the technical requirements and main dimensions. Is not applicable to indoor stairs, outboard stairs, emergency and special purpose stairs.

Specifies the technical characteristics and dimensions which are given in figures 1 and 2 and tables 1 and 2. Depending on the method of manufacture, these anchors fall into two types: Type A - cast steel and type B - welded.

Specifies types, design and basic dimensions as well as technical requirements. Has been prepared in accordance with the environmental protection aspects of the Final Act of the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe (Helsinki, 1975) and is also in conformity with the "International convention for the prevention of pollution from ships", 1973 (MARPOL, 1973).

Specifies the materials also and gives a definition.

Specifies the main operational and technical requirements for shipborne barges, when used as a means of transport for cargo transportation both on board a barge-carrier and on inland waterways.

The ventilation system of shipborne barges has to be jointed to the ventilation system of the appropriate barge-carrier by means of flexible hoses when cargoes requiring ventilation are transported.

Specifies the requirements for their loading, unloading and transport on board barge carriers.

Gives a series of bucket capacities as a basis for standardization of inland dredger details. This series applies to multi-bucket dredgers used for dredging rivers, canals, lakes, water storage basins, water areas of ports and terminals.

Lays also down the dimensions of the principal constructional elements and gives a definition.

Helps to permit identification of pilot crafts in heavy weather, in order to improve the efficiency of pilot service and the safety of navigation. Is applicable to pilot craft used in closed waters, estuaries and open road-steads to bring and take off pilot to merchant ships. The applicability of the requirements to pilot craft navigating under a navy flag is determined by the competent authorities of the relevant country.

Specifies three sizes of couplings with the following nominal sizes of pipes for vessels of various tonnage and types: DN 50; DN 80; DN 150 (for fuel only). Does not apply to the corresponding devices of cargo systems of vessels intended for the transportation of petroleum products.

Specifies the types, kinds, basic parameters and technical requirements.

Is applicable to self-propelled water craft employed in the pilot servicing of merchant ships in closed waters, estuaries and open-sea road-steads. The water craft employed mainly in pilotage of merchant ships by leading may be relieved of adhering to these requirements completely or partially.

Specifies the main dimensions and the dimensions of the principal constructional elements.

Establishes the purpose of ship operational documents, their classification and titles. Includes, in addition, the basic provisions for the maintenance and presentation of operational documents, and for the process of their correction and replacement for ships undergoing modification and repairs.

Specifies the design, sizes, basic parameters and technical requirements.

Specifies the type, principal dimensions and technical requirements. Does not apply to special rubber packings intended to create heat-insulating labyrinths.

Specifies the main characteristics (main dimensions and technical characteristics) of "Rhine"- and Hall's stockless anchors.

Specifies the values for steering gears controlling one or more rudders (rotating propelling nozzles).

Is intended for selection of equipment, machinery and pipeline elements of systems providing operation of the following equipment: blast signals, pneumatic tanks, windshield wipers, towing winch brakes, coupling locks, pneumatic dampers on exhaust-heat boilers, pneumatic control of main engines, ozonizer units, air supply for domestic requirements, blowing Kingston valve boxes, casting off towing hooks, releasing anchors, etc.

Specifies the types, designs and basic dimensions of ship deck handrail. Does not apply to special deck rails designed for particular purposes.

Specifies the characteristics of rope reels intended for the storage of mooring and towing ropes in vessels of all types and purposes for use on inland waterways.

Applicable to towing hooks used on tugs of all types and purposes, intended for towage on inland waterways.

ISO 6218:2015 specifies dimensions and safety requirements for manually operated and power-driven coupling devices used for assembling inland navigation vessels as a push tow or vessels coupled alongside by means of wire rope connections. The coupling device secures the stable positioning of the coupled vessels. Requirements for the safety to protect operators from accidents during the creation, operation, and separation of the wire rope connections of push tows and vessels coupled alongside are contained in this International Standard. It also gives rules for designation and testing.

ISO 18421:2013 stipulates the construction and dimensions of housing for lifebuoys. The housing serves to encase a lifebuoy to protect it against deterioration from the elements and against vandalism.

ISO 6218:2005 specifies dimensions and safety requirements for manually operated coupling devices (securing devices) used for assembling inland navigation vessels as a push tow or vessels coupled alongside by means of wire rope connections. It also gives rules for designation and testing.

Specifies types, dimensions, locations, indication method and colour requirements for the draught scales. Type 1 determines the draught by signs and digits, type 2 only by digits. The lower edge of the keel shall be taken as the measurement base.

The systems are used for sealing off the load compartments on inland navigation vessels. Does not determine the design, but examples of it are given in 6 figures. It also does not contain data to be entered in the customs certificates. Defines custom sealing system, seal and binding elements as parts of these systems.

Specifies the types and general technical requirements for coupling head for hose couplings designed for firefighting and used for deck washing on vessels operating in inland waterways.

Specifies types and main dimensions of the couplings intended for a bow-to-stern connection of vessels in push tows, navigating in waters with a wave height of not more than 2 m. Lays down also basic technical requirements for the couplings. Does not cover side couplings.

Specifies the requirements for the design, construction, safety, performance and acceptance testing of windlasses and capstans having electric, hydraulic, steam or external drive.

Specifies the dimensions and requirements necessary to allow the interchangeability. Does not specify the types of vessels on which the coupling winches may be installed; the decision being left to the shipowner.
