This document gives safety requirements and the means for their verification specific to the design and construction of powered material-collecting systems used in agriculture, gardening and area maintenance (such as landscaping). It is applicable to mounted, semi-mounted or trailed machines manufactured after the date of its publication. This document specifies means for eliminating or reducing mechanical hazards when the material-collecting system is used as intended. It does not deal with environmental hazards, road safety, electromagnetic compatibility, power take-off (PTO), PTO drive shaft guarding or control requirements. This document is not applicable to machines within the scope of ISO 5395-2 or ISO 5395-3.

It is intended to be used with ISO 8437-1 and ISO 8437-4 to achieve the full requirements and means for ride-on snow throwers. The ISO 8437 series deals with significant hazards, hazardous situations and events relevant to snow throwers used as intended and under the conditions reasonably foreseeable by the manufacturer. It does not apply to the following: — electrically powered and battery powered snow throwers; — hand-held snow throwers; — airport or highway snow removal machines and equipment; — machines intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres. It does not deal with hazards related to the following: — battery circuits exceeding 42 V; — mains connected starting motor; — magneto grounding circuits; — working environment; — electromagnetic compatibility. ISO 5395-1:2013 specifies terminology and common test methods used for verification of safety requirements for combustion engine powered rotary lawnmowers and cylinder lawnmowers including pedestrian-controlled (with or without sulky) and ride-on types (hereafter named "lawnmower"), and equipped with: metallic cutting means and/or; non-metallic cutting means with one or more cutting elements pivotally mounted on a generally circular drive unit, where these cutting elements rely on centrifugal force to achieve cutting, and have a kinetic energy for each single cutting element of 10 J or more. It does not apply to: robotic and remote-controlled lawnmowers, flail mowers, grassland mowers, sickle bar mowers, towed/semi-mounted grass cutting machines, and scrub-clearing machines; cutting-means assembly when used in combination with an agricultural tractor; electrically powered and battery-powered lawnmowers. Note that IEC 60335-1 together with IEC 60335-2-77, give requirements for pedestrian-controlled walk-behind electrically powered lawnmowers. ISO 5395-1:2013 is not applicable to lawnmowers which are manufactured before the date of publication of this document.

ISO 5395-2:2013 specifies safety requirements and their verification for combustion-engine-powered pedestrian-controlled (with or without sulky) rotary lawnmowers and cylinder lawnmowers (hereafter named "lawnmower"), and equipped with: metallic cutting means; and/or non-metallic cutting means with one or more cutting elements pivotally mounted on a generally circular drive unit, where these cutting elements rely on centrifugal force to achieve cutting, and have a kinetic energy for each single cutting element of 10 J or more. It does not apply to: robotic and remote-controlled lawnmowers, flail mowers, grassland mowers, sickle bar mowers, towed/semi-mounted grass-cutting machines, and scrub-clearing machines; electrically powered and battery-powered lawnmowers; pedestrian-controlled lawnmowers with a swing-over handle. ISO 5395-3:2013 specifies safety requirements and their verification for combustion-engine-powered ride-on (seated) rotary lawnmowers and cylinder lawnmowers (hereafter named "lawnmower"), and equipped with: metallic cutting means; and/or non-metallic cutting means with one or more cutting elements pivotally mounted on a generally circular drive unit, where these cutting elements rely on centrifugal force to achieve cutting, and have a kinetic energy for each single cutting element of 10 J or more. It does not apply to: robotic and remote-controlled lawnmowers, flail mowers, grassland mowers, sickle bar mowers, towed/semi-mounted grass-cutting machines, and scrub-clearing machines; cutting-means assembly when used in combination with an agricultural tractor; electrically powered and battery-powered lawnmowers. ISO 5395-3:2013 deals with all significant hazards, hazardous situations or events relevant to lawnmowers when used as intended and under the conditions of misuse which are reasonably foreseeable by the manufacturer. ISO 21299:2009 defines test procedures and acceptance criteria for the roll-over protective structures (ROPS) of powered ride-on turf care machinery with a mass of 3 000 kg or less. It is not applicable to stand-on or sulky type machines, nor to self‑propelled machinery and tractors used in agriculture, forestry or construction applications.

This Technical Specification gives guidance on actuating forces for hand and foot controls on powered lawn, garden and horticulture equipment, and their displacement, preferred location and method of operation. It is applicable to operator controls on both ride-on machines and pedestrian-controlled machines. Handheld products are not covered. This Technical Specification is not applicable to passive controls (e.g. seat-activated, operator-presence controls utilized on ride-on machines). It contains data applicable to frequently used controls that require intentional operator actuation for control function. Infrequently used control forces and displacements may exceed the magnitudes given in this Technical Specification. NOTE The concept of frequently used controls is relative to a given machine type and its use or requirements.

Specifies mechanical safety requirements and tests applicable to pedestrian-controlled (walk-behind) powered rotary tillers of a rated engine/motor capacity less than or equal to 7,5 kW, designed primarily for garden and horticulture use. Does not apply to rotary tillers having a rated engine/motor capacity greater than 7,5 kW used in commercial agricultural or forestry operations; PTO-driven machines; electric powered handheld front-mounted tillers; the electric aspects of electrically powered rotary tillers having a voltage exceeding 42 V d.c. or which are mains-connected.

Specifies the requirements for the connection of implements or attachments to the rear of lawn and garden ride-on tractors by means of a one-point hitch in association with a manual or power lift system. Standard dimensions for hitch point location, hitch tube and implement yoke are laid down to ensure the connection of specific implements or attachments. Applies to lawn and garden tractors as defined in ISO 9192.

Specifies the requirements for the connection of implements or attachments to the rear of lawn and garden ride-on tractors by means of a three-point hitch in association with a power lift. Dimensions relating to the implement, the tractor and the mast height are given. Applies to lawn and garden tractors as defined in ISO 9191. Annex A is for information only and gives a bibliography.

ISO 10517:2009 specifies safety requirements and their verification for the design and construction of hand-held, integrally-driven petrol combustion engine hedge trimmers designed to be used by a single operator for trimming hedges and bushes while utilizing one or more linear reciprocating cutter blades. It establishes methods for the elimination or reduction of hazards arising from the use of the trimmers. In addition, it specifies the type of information to be provided by the manufacturer on safe working practices. It deals with all significant hazards, hazardous situations and events relevant to hand-held powered hedge trimmers when they are used as intended. It does not deal with low noise design. It is not applicable to hedge trimmers with an engine displacement over 80 cm3, nor to hedge trimmers manufactured before the date of its publication.

ISO 21628:2008 gives safety requirements and the means for their verification specific to the design and construction of powered material‑collecting systems used in agriculture, gardening and areal maintenance (e.g. landscaping). It is applicable to mounted, semi-mounted or trailed machines manufactured after the date of its publication. It specifies means for eliminating or reducing mechanical hazards when the material-collecting system is used as intended and under the conditions foreseen by the manufacturer. It does not deal with environmental hazards, road safety, electromagnetic compatibility, power take-off (PTO), PTO drive shaft guarding or control requirements.

Specifies mechanical safety requirements and test methods applicable to electric powered walk-behind and hand-held lawn trimmers and lawn edge trimmers, with cutting element(s) of non-metallic filament line or freely pivoting non-metallic cutter(s) with a cutting capacity of not more than 10 J each, used by a standing operator primarily for cutting grass. Does not apply to scissor-type or rigid-bladed lawn trimmers or lawn edge trimmers.

Applies to hand-held hedge trimmers which are primarily designed for cutting hedges and bushes using one or more linear reciprocating cutter blades. Does not apply to hedge trimmers with rotating blades. For the electrical aspects of electrical powered hedge trimmers see IEC 745-2-15. Annex A gives safety instructions for portable powered hedge trimmers.

Amends definitions 1.3.21 (lawn edge trimmer) and 1.3.22 (lawn trimmer), adds text to subclauses 2.2.9.1, 3.3.2.1.1 and 3.3.2.1.3, replaces subclause D.3.2 and deletes its footnote 4), adds a new subclause D.3.3.

Gives terms and definitions. Describes the general construction, the marking, the instructions to be given, the cutting means, the guarding of cutting means, and the mechanical strength. Annex A forms an integral part of this standard.

Specifies the dimensions and location requirements for drawbars on tractors. A figure illustrates details.

Establishes terms and definitions, specifies safety requirements and test procedures. This first edition cancels and replaces the previous editions of separate parts: ISO 5395-1:1984, 5395-2:1981, 5395-3:1985 and its Addendum, and 5395-4:1983.

Specifies safety requirements and test procedures applicable to walk-behind and riding power snow-throwers, lawn riding tractors or lawn and garden tractors (as defined in ISO 5395-1) used with snowthrower attachments, and to snowthrower attachments themselves. Not applicable to airport, highway and agricultural types of snow removal machines and equipment.
