Personal flotation devices - Part 5: Buoyancy aids (level 50) - Safety requirements (ISO 12402-5:2020)

This document specifies the safety requirements for buoyancy aids, performance level 50. It is applicable to buoyancy aids for adults and children with a body mass greater than 25 kg only, used in sheltered waters.
Buoyancy aids require active participation by the user where help and rescue are close at hand.
One-piece and two-piece inherently buoyant floatation suit PFDs are deemed to qualify as special application devices according to ISO 12402-6:2020.

Dieses Dokument legt die sicherheitstechnischen Anforderungen für Schwimmhilfen, Stufe 50, fest. Es gilt für Schwimmhilfen nur für Erwachsene und Kinder mit einer Körpermasse von über 25 kg, die in geschützten Gewässern verwendet werden.
Die Schwimmhilfen erfordern eine aktive Teilnahme des Benutzers, wo Hilfe und Rettung in der Nähe sind.
Einteilige oder zweiteilige Schwimmanzüge mit Feststoff-Auftrieb  für besondere Einsatzzwecke werden nach den Anforderungen von ISO 12402 6:2020 zugelassen .

Le présent document spécifie les exigences de sécurité relatives aux aides à la flottabilité, niveau de performance 50. Il s'applique aux aides à la flottabilité pour adultes et enfants d'une masse corporelle supérieure à 25 kg uniquement, pour une utilisation dans les eaux abritées.
Les aides à la flottabilité exigent une participation active de l'utilisateur lorsqu'il dispose d'une aide et d'un moyen de sauvetage à proximité.
Les EIF sous forme de vêtement ou combinaison à flottabilité inhérente une pièce ou deux pièces sont considérés comme des équipements à usage spécial conformément à l'ISO 12402-6:2020.

This document (EN ISO 12402-5:2020) has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 188 "Small
craft" in collaboration with Technical Committee CEN/TC 162 “Protective clothing including hand and
arm protection and lifejackets” the secretariat of which is held by DIN.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an
identical text or by endorsement, at the latest by March 2021, and conflicting national standards shall
be withdrawn at the latest by March 2021.
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of
patent rights. CEN shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights.
This document supersedes EN ISO 12402-5:2006.
This document has been prepared under a mandate given to CEN by the European Commission and the

This European Standard has been prepared under a Commission's standardization request to provide
one voluntary means of conforming to essential requirements of Regulation (EU) 2016/425 of the
European Parliament and of the Council of 9 March 2016 on personal protective equipment.
Once this standard is cited in the Official Journal of the European Union under that Regulation
(EU) 2016/425, compliance with the normative clauses of this standard given in Table ZA.1 confers,
within the limits of the scope of this standard, a presumption of conformity with the corresponding
essential requirements of that Regulation (EU) 2016/425 and associated EFTA regulations.
