High visibility clothing - Test methods and requirements (ISO 20471:2013, Corrected version 2013-06-01)
ISO 20471:2013 specifies requirements for high visibility clothing which is capable of visually signalling the user's presence. The high visibility clothing is intended to provide conspicuity of the wearer in any light condition when viewed by operators of vehicles or other mechanized equipment during daylight conditions and under illumination of headlights in the dark.
Performance requirements are included for colour and retroreflection as well as for the minimum areas and for the placement of the materials in protective clothing.

Diese Internationale Norm legt die Anforderungen an hochsichtbare Warnkleidung fest, die die Anwesenheit des Trägers visuell signalisiert. Die Warnkleidung soll sicherstellen, dass der Träger bei allen Lichtverhältnissen für Fahrzeugführer oder Bediener anderer technischer Ausrüstung auffällig sichtbar ist; sowohl unter Bedingungen bei Tageslicht als auch unter Scheinwerferbeleuchtung in der Dunkelheit. Für weiterführende Angaben zu Risikosituationen siehe Anhang A.
Diese Norm gilt nicht für Situationen mit mittlerem oder niedrigem Risiko.
Es sind Leistungsanforderungen an die Farbe und die Retroreflexion festgelegt sowie an die Mindestflächen und die Anordnung der Schutzkleidungsmaterialien.

L'ISO 20471:2013 spécifie les exigences que doivent respecter les vêtements à haute visibilité afin de signaler visuellement la présence de l'utilisateur. Les vêtements à haute visibilité sont destinés à offrir une perceptibilité du porteur lorsqu'il est vu par les conducteurs de véhicules ou d'autres équipements mécaniques, dans toutes les conditions de luminosité, de jour et de nuit dans la lumière des phares d'un véhicule.
Les exigences de performance sont indiquées pour la couleur et la rétroréflexion ainsi que pour les surfaces minimales et le positionnement des matières utilisées sur le vêtement de protection.

Ta mednarodni standard določa zahteve za dobro vidno obleko, s katero je vizualno signalizirana prisotnost uporabnika za zagotavljanje jasne vidnosti uporabnika v izredno tveganih situacijah pod katerimi koli svetlobnimi pogoji čez dan in pri osvetlitvi z žarometi vozila ponoči. Za dodatne informacije o tveganih situacijah glejte dodatek A. Ta standard ne velja za srednje in nizko tvegane situacije. Zahtevane lastnosti zajemajo barvo in retrorefleksijo ter minimalna območja in namestitev materialov v zaščitna oblačila.

This document (EN ISO 20471:2013) has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 94 "Personal safety
- Protective clothing and equipment" in collaboration with Technical Committee CEN/TC 162 “Protective
clothing including hand and arm protection and lifejackets” the secretariat of which is held by DIN.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an identical
text or by endorsement, at the latest by September 2013, and conflicting national standards shall be
withdrawn at the latest by September 2013.
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of patent
rights. CEN [and/or CENELEC] shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights.
This document supersedes EN 471:2003+A1:2007.

Relationship between this European Standard and the Essential
Requirements of EU Directive 89/686/EEC
This European Standard has been prepared under a mandate given to CEN by the European Commission
and the European Free Trade Association to provide one means of conforming to Essential Requirements of
the New Approach Directive 89/686/EEC on the approximation of the laws of the Member States relating to
personal protective equipment.
Once this standard is cited in the Official Journal of the European Union under that Directive and has been
implemented as a national standard in at least one Member State, compliance with the normative clauses of
this standard given in Table ZA.1 confers, within the limits of the scope of this standard, a presumption of
conformity with the corresponding Essential Requirements of that Directive and associated EFTA regulations.
