This document is applicable to gas-fired appliances producing domestic hot water. It applies to both instantaneous and storage appliances; water-heaters and combination boilers that have:
-   heat input not exceeding 70 kW; and
-   hot water storage capacity (if any) not exceeding 500 l.
In the case of combination boilers, with or without storage tank, domestic hot water production is integrated or coupled, the whole being marketed as a single unit.
This document sets out in qualitative and quantitative terms the performance in delivery of domestic hot water for a selected variety of uses. It also gives a system for presenting the information to the user.

Dieses Dokument gilt für gasbeheizte Geräte für die sanitäre Warmwasserbereitung. Sie gilt sowohl für Durchlauf- als auch für Vorrats-Wasserheizer sowie Kombi-Kessel mit:
-  einer Wärmebelastung von höchstens 70 kW; und
-  einem Warmwasser-Speichervolumen (sofern vorhanden) von höchstens 500 l.
Bei Kombi-Kesseln mit oder ohne Speicher ist die sanitäre Warmwasserbereitung in den Kessel eingebaut oder an den Kessel angebaut, wobei das gesamte Gerät als eine Gesamteinheit vertrieben wird.
Dieser Dokumentensatz legt mehrere quantitative und qualitative Komfortklassen für die sanitäre Warmwasserbereitung für eine Auswahl von Benutzungsarten fest. Er enthält außerdem ein System zur Bereitstellung von Angaben für den Benutzer.

Le présent document s’applique aux appareils de production d’eau chaude sanitaire utilisant les combustibles gazeux. Il s’applique à la fois aux appareils instantanés ou à accumulation, chauffe-eau ou chaudières à deux services, qui ont :
-  un débit calorifique inférieur ou égal à 70 kW ; et
-  une capacité de stockage en eau chaude (si elle existe) inférieure ou égale à 500 l.
Dans le cas des chaudières à deux services avec ou sans ballon, la production d’eau chaude sanitaire est intégrée ou accolée, l’ensemble étant commercialisé comme une seule unité.
Le présent document définit en termes qualitatifs et quantitatifs la performance en puisage d’eau chaude sanitaire pour une variété d’usages sélectionnée. Il fournit également un système pour présenter les informations à l’utilisateur.

-   a hot water storage capacity (if any) not exceeding 2 000 l.

The present document sets out a method for assessing the energy performance of gas fired mCHP appliances. It defines several daily tapping cycles for each domestic hot water use, kitchen, shower, bath and a combination of these, together with corresponding test procedures, enabling the energy performances of different gas-fired appliances to be compared and matched to the needs of the user.
When the mCHP generator does not supply domestic hot water in the summer period, the present standard is not applicable. EN 13203-2:2022 is used for performance assessment of these generators.

This document is applicable to solar supported gas-fired appliances producing domestic hot water. It applies to a system marketed as single unit or a fully specified system that:
-   has a gas heat input not exceeding 70 kW;
-   has a hot water storage tank capacity not exceeding 500 l;
-   is equipped with at least one solar collector;
-   is, with regard to the solar hydraulic circuit, considered as a forced circulation system (definition according to EN ISO 9488:1999).
The appliances covered by this document are described in Annex E (normative).
This document does not apply to thermo-siphon or integral collector storage tank systems according to definitions given by EN ISO 9488:1999.
NOTE   In principle, the energy consumption of thermo-siphon solar preheat systems and integral collector storage tank preheat systems can also be assessed based on this document. One appropriate procedure for that purpose is to calculate the temperature level of the domestic hot water withdrawn from the thermal solar system for the reference conditions specified in this standard by using the numerical system model and the thermal solar system performance parameters according to ISO 9459-5. Based on the temperature level of the hot water withdrawn from the store the energy consumption of the gas appliance is determined. This determination can either be done by means of calculations or by performing a test according to EN 13203 2:2022 and using instead of the cold water inlet temperature the hot water temperature withdrawn from the store.
This document is not intended to assess the performance:
-   of the solar collector(s), which should comply with EN 12975-1:2006+A1:2010 and EN 12975-2:2006;
-   of thermal solar systems and components, which should comply with EN 12976-1:2021 and EN 12976-2:2019.
EN 13203-1:2015 sets out in qualitative and quantitative terms the performance in delivery of domestic hot water for a selected variety of uses. It also gives a presenting the information to the user.
The present document sets out a method for assessing the energy performance of a solar supported appliance. It specifies a few daily tapping cycles for each domestic hot water use, kitchen, shower, bath and a combination of these, together with corresponding test procedures including information about the available solar radiation. It enables the energy performances of different gas-fired appliances to be compared and matched to the needs of the user.

Where other technologies are combined with a gas-fired boiler or a water heater to produce domestic hot water, specific parts of EN 13203 apply.
The present document does not apply for gas boilers with recovery systems using combustion products as heat source for the electrical heat pump.
When the electrical heat pump does not work for domestic hot water production in the summer period, the present standard is not applicable for energy performances assessing, instead EN 13203-2:2022 is applicable.

The water heaters covered by the present standard are considered "conventional water heaters" as defined by the Transitional Methods (Commission Communication 2014/C 207/03) then in the calculation formula for the Annual Electricity Consumption (AEC), Qcor is equal to zero.
In case of the boiler is equipped with an internal or external Passive Flue Heat Recovery Device (PFHRD), the boiler efficiency can be assessed by applying EN 13203-2:2022 in combination with EN 13203-7:2022. In case of a PFHRD, where the technology has the ability to recover energy out of flue gasses during central heating production to be able to preheat the domestic hot water (indirect contribution), to assess this indirect contribution EN 13203-7:2022 applies. EN 13203-2:2022 is applicable for measuring and calculating the direct efficiency (direct contribution) while combining the measuring results of EN 13203-7:2022 the overall efficiency (direct and indirect) can be calculated. EN 13203-1:2015 sets out in qualitative and quantitative terms the performance in delivery of domestic hot water for a selected variety of uses. It also gives a system for presenting the information to the user. The present document sets out a method for assessing the energy performance of the appliances. It specifies a few daily load profiles for each domestic hot water use, kitchen, shower, bath and a combination of these, together with corresponding test procedures, enabling the energy performances of different gas-fired appliances to be compared and matched to the needs of the user. This European Standard specifies the requirements and test methods concerning, in particular, the construction, safety, fitness for purpose, and rational use of energy, as well as the classification and marking of gas-fired central heating boilers that are fitted with atmospheric burners, fan assisted atmospheric burners or fully premixed burners, and are hereafter referred to as “boilers”.
This European Standard applies to boilers of type B, as listed in 4.2:
¾   that use one or more combustible gases of the three gas families at the pressures stated in Tables 16 and 17;
¾   that have a nominal heat input (on the basis of net calorific value) exceeding 300 kW, but not exceeding 1  000 kW, including modular boilers;
¾   where the temperature of the heat transfer fluid does not exceed 105 °C during normal operation;
¾   where the maximum operating pressure in the water circuit does not exceed 6 bar;
¾   that can give rise to condensation under certain circumstances;
¾   of the standard and low-temperature types.
This European Standard applies to boilers designed for sealed water systems or for open water systems.
This European Standard does not contain all the requirements necessary for boilers:
¾   intended to be installed in the open or in living rooms;
¾   permanently fitted with more than one flue outlet;
¾   where the combustion circuit is sealed with respect to the room where the boiler is installed;
¾   of the condensing type;
¾   intended to be connected to a common flue having mechanical extraction;
¾   fitted with a forced draught burner in accordance with EN 676 (see EN 303-7);
¾   producing hot water for domestic purposes.
This standard only covers type testing.
Matters related to quality assurance systems, tests during production, and certificates of conformity of auxiliary devices are not dealt with in this European Standard.

It also gives a system for presenting the information to the user. This first part complements EN 26, EN 89 and EN 625.  This Part 5 sets out a method for assessing the energy performance of gas fired appliances combined with heat pump with electrically driven compressor according to EN 16417.  This European standard does not apply for gas boilers with recovery systems using combustion products as heat source for the electrical heat pump.  When the electrical heat pump does not work for domestic hot water production in the summer period, the present standard is not applicable for energy performances assessing, EN 13203-2 must be used for energy performances assessing.

Note : a draft standard prEN 13203-5 for "Gas-fired domestic appliance producing hot water - Part 5 : Assessment of energy consumption of gas fired appliances combined with electrical heat pump not exceeding 70 kW heat input and 300 l water storage capacity" is also under preparation by CEN/TC109/WG4.
