This amendment A1 modifies the European Standard EN 60034-9:2005; it was approved by CENELEC on
2007-04-01. CENELEC members are bound to comply with the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations which
stipulate the conditions for giving this amendment the status of a national standard without any alteration.

Up-to-date lists and bibliographical references concerning such national standards may be obtained on
application to the Central Secretariat or to any CENELEC member.

This amendment exists in three official versions (English, French, German). A version in any other language
made by translation under the responsibility of a CENELEC member into its own language and notified to the
Central Secretariat has the same status as the official versions.

Rotating machinery, was submitted to the IEC-CENELEC parallel Unique Acceptance Procedure and was
approved by CENELEC as amendment A1 to EN 60034-9:2005 on 2007-04-01.
The following dates were fixed:

1 Scope
Replace the first paragraph of the scope with the following:
This part of IEC 60034:
– specifies test methods for the determination of sound power level of rotating electrical
machines;
– specifies maximum A-weighted sound power levels for factory acceptance testing of
network-supplied, rotating electrical machines in accordance with lEC 60034-1, having
methods of cooling according to lEC 60034-6 and degrees of protection according to
lEC 60034-5, and having the following characteristics:
• standard design, either a.c. or d.c., without additional special electrical, mechanical, or
acoustical modifications intended to reduce the sound power level;
• rated output from 1 kW (or kVA) up to and including 5 500 kW (or kVA);

This part of IEC 60034:

This standard does not provide correction for the existence of tonal characteristics.
Sound pressure levels at a distance from the machine may be required in some applications, such as hearing protection programs. Information is provided on such a procedure in Clause 7 based on a standardized test environment.
NOTE 1 This standard recognizes the economic reason for the availability of standard noise-level machines for use in non-critical areas or for use with supplementary means of noise attenuation.
NOTE 2 Where sound power levels lower than those specified in Tables 1 or 2 are required, these should be agreed between the manufacturer and the purchaser, as special electrical, mechanical, or acoustical design may involve additional measures.

IEC 60034-9:2021 specifies test methods for the determination of sound power level of rotating electrical machines and specifies maximum A-weighted sound power levels for factory acceptance testing of network-supplied, rotating electrical machines in accordance with lEC 60034-1, having methods of cooling according to lEC 60034-6 and degrees of protection according to lEC 60034-5, and having the following characteristics:
- standard design, either AC or DC, without additional special electrical, mechanical, or acoustical modifications intended to reduce the sound power level
- rated output from 1 kW (or kVA) up to and including 5 500 kW (or kVA)
- rated speed not greater than 3 750 min–1
This fifth edition cancels and replaces the fourth edition, published in 2003 and its amendment 1, published in 2007. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition:
a) In Table 2 and Table 3 cooling methods IC01, IC11, IC21 and IC31, IC71, IC81 are now covered.
b) This edition adds Table 3 for 60 Hz machines, whereas Table 2, which covers only 50 Hz machines, has no change in levels.
c) In Table 3, grade A is added to harmonize the highest levels seen in IEC and NEMA, whereas grade B was added to harmonize the lowest, more restrictive levels seen in IEC and NEMA.
d) The clause “Determination of noise increments caused by converter supply” has been shifted to Annex B and renamed “Information on typical noise increments caused by converter supply”.

EN ISO 1680:2013

ISO 1680 specifies all the information necessary to carry out efficiently and under standardized conditions the determination, declaration, and verification of the noise emission characteristics of rotating electrical machines. It specifies noise measurement methods that can be used, and specifies the operating and mounting conditions required for the test. Noise emission characteristics include the sound power level and emission sound pressure level. The determination of these quantities is necessary: - for comparing the noise emitted by machines; - to enable manufacturers to declare the noise emitted; and - for the purposes of noise control. The use of this International Standard as a noise test code ensures the reproducibility of the determination of the noise emission characteristics within specified limits determined by the grade of accuracy of the basic noise measurement method used. Noise measurement methods allowed by this International Standard are precision methods (grade 1), engineering methods (grade 2) and survey methods (grade 3). Methods of engineering grade (grade 2) are to be preferred. This International Standard is applicable to rotating electrical machines of any length, width or height.

This document gives guidance and requirements for the assessment of conformity of compounds, products, joints and assemblies in accordance with the applicable part(s) of the ISO 16486 series which are intended to be included in the manufacturer’s quality plan as part of the quality management system and for the establishment of certification procedures.
NOTE 1    A basic test matrix in Annex B provides an overview of the testing scheme.
It is recommended for the manufacturer to have a management system such as ISO 9001[4] or equivalent.
NOTE 2    If certification is involved, certification bodies and inspection bodies operating according to ISO/IEC 17065 and ISO/IEC 17020 are considered to be competent.
In conjunction with the other parts of the ISO 16486 series (see Clause 2), this document is applicable to unplasticized polyamide (PA-U) piping systems intended to be buried and used for the supply of gaseous fuels. It is applicable to PA-U pipes, fittings and valves, as well as to their joints and to joints with components of other materials intended to be used under the following conditions:
a)    a maximum operating pressure (MOP) up to and including 18 bar[1] (the MOP is limited to 16 bar for CEN member countries, where ISO 16486-6 is replaced by CEN/TS 12007-6[1]);
b)    an operating temperature of 20 °C as the reference temperature.
NOTE 3    For operating temperatures different to 20 °C, derating coefficients can be used (see ISO 16486-6). CEN member countries use CEN/TS 12007-6[1] and ISO/TS 16486-7 (this document) as a basis, but they can also request additional requirements. For non-CEN member countries, information for dealing with special cases for PA-U can be found in ISO/TS 16486-7 (this document) and PPI TR-3.[7]
For mechanical fittings conforming to ISO 17885, guidance for assessment of conformity is not given in this document. When requested, a quality plan based on the tests mentioned can be set up in agreement between user and manufacturer.
The ISO 16486 series covers a range of maximum operating pressures and gives requirements concerning colours.
NOTE 4    It is the responsibility of the purchaser or specifier to make the appropriate selections from these aspects, taking into account their particular requirements and any relevant national regulations and installation practices or codes.
