This International Standard establishes a nomenclature, with reference numbers, for welding and allied processes. Each process is identified by a reference number. This International Standard covers main groups of processes (one digit), groups (two digits) and sub-groups (three digits). The reference number for any process has a maximum of three digits. This system is intended as an aid in computerisation, drawings, working papers, welding procedure specifications etc.

Le num�ro de r�f�rence pour un proc�d� donn� comporte au maximum trois chiffres. Ce syst�me est pr�vu pour faciliter l'informatisation, les dessins et les documents de travail, les descriptifs de modes op�ratoires de soudage, etc.

Ta mednarodni standard vzpostavlja seznam načinov varjenja in sorodnih postopkov ter številčne oznake. Vsak postopek se identificira s številčno oznako. Ta mednarodni standard zajema glavne skupine postopkov (enoštevilčna oznaka), skupine (dvoštevilčna oznaka) in podskupine (trištevilčna oznaka). Številčna oznaka za vsak postopek ima največ tri številke. Ta sistem se uporablja kot pomoč pri informatizaciji, risanju, delovnih dokumentih, specifikacijah varilnih postopkov itd.

This document (EN ISO 4063:2009) has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 44 "Welding and
allied processes" in collaboration with Technical Committee CEN/TC 121 “Welding”, the secretariat of which is
held by DIN.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an identical
text or by endorsement, at the latest by February 2010, and conflicting national standards shall be withdrawn
at the latest by February 2010.
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of patent

Foreword
ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies
(ISO member bodies). The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out through ISO
technical committees. Each member body interested in a subject for which a technical committee has been
established has the right to be represented on that committee. International organizations, governmental and
non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the work. ISO collaborates closely with the
International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrotechnical standardization.
International Standards are drafted in accordance with the rules given in the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 2.
The main task of technical committees is to prepare International Standards. Draft International Standards
adopted by the technical committees are circulated to the member bodies for voting. Publication as an
International Standard requires approval by at least 75 % of the member bodies casting a vote.

ISO 4063 was prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 44, Welding and allied processes, Subcommittee
SC 7, Representation and terms.
This fourth edition cancels and replaces the third edition (ISO 4063:1998), which has been technically revised.
The nomenclature has been updated and terms that have become obsolete or redundant have been removed
from the body of the standard and retained for the convenience of the user in Annex A.
Requests for official interpretations of any aspect of this International Standard should be directed to the
Secretariat of ISO/TC 44/SC 7 via your national standards body. A complete listing of these bodies can be

This corrected version of ISO 4063 incorporates the following corrections:
⎯ in Clause 3, reference number 987 (duplication of 918) deleted, and reference numbers 983–986
changed to 973–976;
⎯ the examples given in 2.2.2 and 2.2.3;
⎯ Belgian synonyms for some French terms added, and these and such terms already present identified by
“BE”.
⎯ in the introductory paragraph to Annex B, mention of parenthesized reference numbers deleted, as there
are none in this fourth edition;
⎯ in Table B.1, ISO 4063 reference numbers for ABW, BW and UW-HF;
⎯ in Table B.4, a duplicated row (for US acronym OFC-P) deleted.

Die ISO (Internationale Organisation für Normung) ist die weltweite Vereinigung nationaler Normungsinstitute
(ISO-Mitgliedskörperschaften). Die Erarbeitung internationaler Normen obliegt den technischen Komitees der
ISO. Jede Mitgliedskörperschaft, die sich für ein Thema interessiert, für das ein technisches Komitee
eingesetzt wurde, ist berechtigt, in diesem Komitee mitzuarbeiten. Internationale (staatliche und

Normtext gestrichen; sie bleiben jedoch aus Gründen der Anwenderfreundlichkeit im Anhang A erhalten.
