This International Standard establishes a nomenclature for welding and allied processes, with each process identified by a reference number. This International Standard covers the main groups of processes (one digit), groups (two digits) and subgroups (three digits). The reference number for any process has a maximum of three digits. This system is intended as an aid in computerization, drawings, the drafting of working papers, welding procedure specifications, etc.

L'ISO 4063:2009 couvre les groupes principaux de procédés (un chiffre), les groupes (deux chiffres) et les sous-groupes (trois chiffres). Le numéro de référence pour un procédé donné comporte au maximum trois chiffres. Ce système est prévu pour faciliter l'informatisation, les dessins et les documents de travail, les descriptifs de modes opératoires de soudage, etc.

Ta mednarodni standard zajema glavne skupine postopkov (enoštevilčna oznaka), skupine (dvoštevilčna oznaka) in podskupine (trištevilčna oznaka). Številčna oznaka za vsak postopek ima največ tri številke. Ta sistem se uporablja kot pomoč pri informatizaciji, risanju, pripravi osnutkov delovnih dokumentov, specifikacijah varilnih postopkov itd.

The text of ISO 4063:2009, Corrected version 2010-03-01 has been prepared by Technical Committee
ISO/TC 44 “Welding and allied processes” of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and has
been taken over as EN ISO 4063:2010 by Technical Committee CEN/TC 121 “Welding” the secretariat of
which is held by DIN.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an identical
text or by endorsement, at the latest by June 2011, and conflicting national standards shall be withdrawn at
the latest by June 2011.
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of patent
rights. CEN [and/or CENELEC] shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights.
This document supersedes EN ISO 4063:2009.

Foreword
ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies
(ISO member bodies). The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out through ISO
technical committees. Each member body interested in a subject for which a technical committee has been
established has the right to be represented on that committee. International organizations, governmental and
non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the work. ISO collaborates closely with the
International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrotechnical standardization.
International Standards are drafted in accordance with the rules given in the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 2.
The main task of technical committees is to prepare International Standards. Draft International Standards
adopted by the technical committees are circulated to the member bodies for voting. Publication as an
International Standard requires approval by at least 75 % of the member bodies casting a vote.

ISO 4063 was prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 44, Welding and allied processes, Subcommittee
SC 7, Representation and terms.
This fourth edition cancels and replaces the third edition (ISO 4063:1998), which has been technically revised.
The nomenclature has been updated and terms that have become obsolete or redundant have been removed
from the body of the standard and retained for the convenience of the user in Annex A.
Requests for official interpretations of any aspect of this International Standard should be directed to the
Secretariat of ISO/TC 44/SC 7 via your national standards body. A complete listing of these bodies can be
found at www.iso.org.
This corrected version of ISO 4063 incorporates the following corrections:
⎯ in Clause 3, reference number 987 (duplication of 918) deleted, reference numbers 983–986 changed to
973–976 and reference number 977 added, and the German term for 832 corrected;
⎯ the examples given in 2.2.2 and 2.2.3 modified;
⎯ Belgian synonyms for some French terms added, and these and such terms already present identified by
“BE”;
⎯ “designations” substituted for “abbreviations and acronyms” in Annex B;
⎯ in the introductory paragraph to Annex B, mention of parenthesized reference numbers deleted, as there
are none in this fourth edition;
⎯ the tables of Annex B generally modified and corrected.

Die ISO (Internationale Organisation für Normung) ist die weltweite Vereinigung nationaler Normungsinstitute
(ISO-Mitgliedskörperschaften). Die Erarbeitung internationaler Normen obliegt den technischen Komitees der
ISO. Jede Mitgliedskörperschaft, die sich für ein Thema interessiert, für das ein technisches Komitee

Normtext gestrichen; sie bleiben jedoch aus Gründen der Anwenderfreundlichkeit im Anhang A erhalten.
Anfragen zur offiziellen Interpretation der Inhalte dieser Internationalen Norm sollten an das Sekretariat von

The text of ISO 4063:2009, Corrected version 2009-11-15 has been prepared by Technical Committee
ISO/TC 44 “Welding and allied processes” of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and has
been taken over as FprEN ISO 4063:2010 by Technical Committee CEN/TC 121 “Welding” the secretariat of
which is held by DIN.
This document is currently submitted to the Unique Acceptance Procedure.
This document will supersede EN ISO 4063:2009.

Foreword
ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies
(ISO member bodies). The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out through ISO
technical committees. Each member body interested in a subject for which a technical committee has been
established has the right to be represented on that committee. International organizations, governmental and
non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the work. ISO collaborates closely with the
International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrotechnical standardization.
International Standards are drafted in accordance with the rules given in the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 2.
The main task of technical committees is to prepare International Standards. Draft International Standards
adopted by the technical committees are circulated to the member bodies for voting. Publication as an
International Standard requires approval by at least 75 % of the member bodies casting a vote.
Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of patent
rights. ISO shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights.
ISO 4063 was prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 44, Welding and allied processes, Subcommittee
SC 7, Representation and terms.
This fourth edition cancels and replaces the third edition (ISO 4063:1998), which has been technically revised.
The nomenclature has been updated and terms that have become obsolete or redundant have been removed
from the body of the standard and retained for the convenience of the user in Annex A.
Requests for official interpretations of any aspect of this International Standard should be directed to the
Secretariat of ISO/TC 44/SC 7 via your national standards body. A complete listing of these bodies can be
found at www.iso.org.
This corrected version of ISO 4063 incorporates the following corrections:
⎯ in Clause 3, reference number 987 (duplication of 918) deleted, reference numbers 983–986 changed to
973–976 and reference number 977 added, and the German term for 832 corrected;
⎯ the examples given in 2.2.2 and 2.2.3 modified;
⎯ Belgian synonyms for some French terms added, and these and such terms already present identified by
“BE”;
⎯ “designations” substituted for “abbreviations and acronyms” in Annex B;
⎯ in the introductory paragraph to Annex B, mention of parenthesized reference numbers deleted, as there
are none in this fourth edition;
⎯ the tables of Annex B generally modified and corrected.

(ISO-Mitgliedskörperschaften). Die Erarbeitung internationaler Normen obliegt den technischen Komitees der
ISO. Jede Mitgliedskörperschaft, die sich für ein Thema interessiert, für das ein technisches Komitee
