Foreword
This European Standard (EN 1001-2:2005) has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC 38
“Durability of wood and wood based products”, the secretariat of which is held by AFNOR.
This European Standard shall be given the status of a national standard, either by publication of an identical
text or by endorsement, at the latest by February 2006, and conflicting national standards shall be withdrawn
at the latest by February 2006.
This European Standard supersedes HD 1001:1984.
This standard is divided in two parts; the part 1 gives a list of equivalent terms and the part 2 gives a list of
terms with their definitions.
According to the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations, the national standards organizations of the following
countries are bound to implement this European Standard: Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Czech Republic,
Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania,
Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland

Introduction
The terms presented in this document have been selected as terms frequently used in the specific suite of
existing standards produced by the Technical Committee CEN/TC38 ‘Durability of wood and wood-based
products’.
The terms presented in the document corresponding to the aim of CEN/TC 38 are widely the terms included in
BS 4261 with the kind authorisation of BSI.
Some terms and their definitions can differ from those preferred and designated in other European Standards
or standards at a national level.
Terms are listed alphabetically in the trilingual index and are referred to by numbers, which are found against
terms in the body of the vocabulary. There they are arranged in alphabetical order within each section.
Bold type in a definition denotes a term that is defined elsewhere in the vocabulary.
